Houston Group Buy
 

Stole this idea from the California thread and I figured with Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin, not to mention any Louisiana cities, all in a relative close proximity, there would be enough people interested in this that would could get a serious deal worked out among ourselves and a dealership.

Disclaimer:
I'm in Houston and plan on doing the group buy through a Houston dealership. With that said, if a large amount (>75%) of those interested are in a different Texas city, then I will see what I can do about switching to a dealership in that city. Also, I haven't decided on the BRZ or FRS yet since the pricing and options have not been finalized for either car, so this group buy could be for either one.

To Get This Rolling:
What I need to know is how many people here are committed to purchasing one of these cars assuming it falls within a price range of 22k-27k (I'm first about not paying over that amount). Once I have a good estimate of how many people would like to participate in this group buy I will start talking to a dealership to work out a deal. Anyone else interested in helping out with this process is more than welcomed.

I have decided on the BRZ. I am in Houston as well...

I am also considering using the Subaru VIP Program to get 2% below invoice.

But I am interested to know how this develops... :w00t:

Edit: I'm going to the Auto Show at Reliant tomorrow. So far, from what I'm read, only the SEMA FR-S concept is there, and not the acutal car. I'm going to be fuming if the BRZ and FR-S are both missing from the show. What an effing joke.

I have heard the FRS will be there but not the BRZ :thumbdown:

It's not even the production model, but instead the SEMA concept. I Tweeted Scion about how much that irritated me... It doesn't make sense b/c Houston is the 4th largest city and GST, Gulf States Toyota -- A very large regional Toyota dealership network, is based here. I was sure they would be showing. Oh well just another disappointment.

I'm in Houston, I will probably be going with a BRZ, like you it still depends on the final pricing.

I didn't go; wife was sick. Besides, when I found out neither car would be there I lost interest.

How was the SEMA concept? From the pictures I've seen it's a lot different than a true FRS.

The concept was nothing like it...

Any new news on any dealers taking pre-orders?

I'm interested in the group buy if possible. I'm from pearland area. also i'm on the list at west houston subaru as of right now.

I was told they won't take pre-orders until official info is released.

Stenguyen, what exactly are the terms or the point of this list you're on? Do you get priority on ordering a car?

they have released the info on the subaru. its coming out early may and pricing is 24 for the premium model and 27 for the limited model.

Lack of responses, so few cars during initial release and the BS the Irvine dealership pulled on their large GB are all reasons I lost interest in it.

I put $300 down at West Houston Subaru.

What price did you agreed to with them? Any idea how many pre-orders are before you?

Has anyone put down a deposit at Gillman Subaru Southwest?

I was told that they aren't taking any deposits at Gillman Subaru. I'll probably call them back on the 1st.

I talked to Wally there and he claimed they have 16 people in line to pre-order... :iono:

I just got an email from James @ Gillman today and he says they'll be getting 21 in the next 7 months. If they already have 16 spots taken, then I might have to consider a scion.

Yeah i was told the same thing as well. Apparently the 21 are random BRZs and not including pre-orders. Have you spoke to anyone there about whether or not they'll be charging over MSRP?

So they aren't going to order what those who pre-order want? But rather have them get whatever trim/transmission/options the dealership happens to get?

I have already put in a $500 deposit at subaru west Houston. I am No. 4 on some kind of waiting list. They are promised 10 cars in 2012.

If you are hoping for a better price through a group buy, 2012 may be too early for that.

I assume you agreed to pay MSRP?

I just got back from Gillman and left a deposit for a Dark grey limited. I did agree to pay MSRP. The sales guy said that the 21 they are getting are the ones that they specifically order. Nobody will have random stock available. They aren't even going to have one for the showroom. I'm in the top ten. I also stopped by Scion and the sales guy there said the FRS price will be between 25k-26k.

Keep your eyes and ears open.. BRZ heading to Houston now.

That's interesting that you were told you were in the top 10 on the list. I put down my deposit a few days ago and was told I was number 16...

Who did you talk to there?

I talked to James. He said he has for deposits and he thinks the manager has 4 deposits. The orders don't get entered until Thursday and James will be the one entering the orders. He also mentioned that he thinks the more popular options might get made first, so it might not matter what number you are.

Hmm interesting. I have been working with Wally (General Manager). I need to get in contact with James (Rutledge I assume), and see if him and Wally are on the same page.

Ok I just called all 3 Houston area Subaru dealers and all 3 said they are expecting to have a physical car there this week to look at and sit in and check out. All 3 made it clear no test drive though. Hehehehe. You can't blame a brother for asking. :thumbsup:

GM at Gillman Southwest said it will be there Wed. I did not get a time frame so i don't know if it will be all day or just for a few hours.

I emailed James there and he said he heard Thursday. But he also said to check with Wally (GM). So maybe Wally knows best...

Westside Subaru called me back and said the BRZ is suppose to be there on Thursday. Again no time frame.

That one may be easier for me to make than Wed. even though it's further from me.

Devin I thought you had decided on a Prius since gas milage on the MT was going to be so bad. :lol:
