redlinegoods shift boot and ebrake boot

7 Attachment(s)
Figured id be the guinea pig and take a shot on the redlinegoods boots. I had them custom ordered in solid black real italian leather with a solid red leather stripe up the middle and red stitching. They were $100 shipped for both so i figured it was worth giving a try. They arrived today and look beautiful. The shift boot has the holes cut at the bottom which should hopefully be lined up with the tabs on the bezel for a quick installation. The ebrake boot i'll have to do some work on and pull apart the original/glue the new one down but it looks damn nice and matches perfect. Arrived here in NY from Poland approximately 2 weeks after ordering. Not bad at all.

Looks good. Hurry and install em so we can get a full review!

abutterman 04-15-2013 10:11 PM

shift boot should be easy enough to get on tomorrow afternoon as long as everything lines up and fits properly. i'm gonna swap my oem red stitch ebrake boot with @mezdup and take his plain black one since i'll just be ripping the fabric off the plastic anyway but hopefully that'll be done within the week or so.

abutterman 04-16-2013 12:36 PM

Just installed the shift boot. Pictures are up on the first post. The fit is perfect and looks beautiful. Clips right on to the stock hooks as shown with a nice tight fit so it doesn't move around. the top where it slides over the reverse lockout has 2 small notches cut in the back side to it can slip over yet still remains snug and in place. Its slightly more bunched up at the bottom than stock but it's also real leather so it'll probably settle down and sink in a bit over time but it's not too bunched up that it gets in the way of shifting or anything. I'll see how it holds up as far as stretching and whatnot over time but as of now i think it was well worth the $50 shipped. Ebrake boot should hopefully be ready to go by the weekend

im loving that dash cover

s2d4 04-17-2013 03:24 PM

Damn, they turned out a lot better than I thought, not bad at all even if the red stripe may be a bit too much for me.

Will you be ordering the dash pad as well?

I just asked them about the dash pad and apparently its just the material cut to the exact shape and u have to use adhesive to put it on the stock parts but since these came out so nice i might give it a shot. Might skip the stripe though since they say itll probably just go across the middle of the right dash piece

Sounds like a good choice!
Are you getting solid leather for the dash as well? I am getting sick of seeing alcantara for some reason.

Probably solid black with just the red stitching. I was originally thinking perforated so the silver from the stock trim would show through the holes but then i was thinking depending where the adhesive needs to be applied, it might seep through and look bad.

Derik210 04-17-2013 04:15 PM

is the brz/frs stiched onto the dash pad?

chadstyle 04-17-2013 04:21 PM

Love the shift boot...when are you installing the e brake boot? For $100, its a steal!! Thanks for the pics, can't wait to see more.

abutterman 04-17-2013 04:32 PM

should have the ebrake boot installed maybe friday evening or sometime this weekend. the stitching and stripe matches great and it looks to be cut properly as far as i can tell. i don't see there being any issues with it. I'll just have to make a template or something with the original one so i knot where to fold the edges over

abutterman 04-17-2013 05:30 PM

anyone know if this [ame="http://www.amazon.com/3M-03609-Scotch-Mount-Molding-Tape/dp/B000BO913C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1366230514&sr=8-1&keywords=3m+automotive+tape"]3M 03609 Scotch-Mount 1/2" x 5' Molding Tape : Amazon.com : Automotive[/ame] will hold leather down to plastic? It would have to stick well to the suede backing. I already have some industrial strength adhesive but if this would work, it might make for a cleaner and more easily reversible installation

chadstyle 04-17-2013 06:42 PM

Use contact adhesive...the yellow stuff. For a small part like this you can brush it on each side and let it tack up before sticking the two together.

i got my shifter boot for my 93 mr2 from that site. awesome products i would recommend. very durable feeling

abutterman 04-17-2013 10:19 PM

just went ahead and ordered the dash pieces too. hopefully it'll come out ok :)

stockysnail 04-18-2013 12:04 AM

I ordered the dash piece a week or so ago so it should be here next week hopefully.

They need to work on that stitching. Looks good otherwise, but even the shift boot is off and these are the photos on their website.

Not trying to hate, just pointing it out so people aren't disappointed.

Fair pick up, perhaps that side was meant to be facing the AC controls.
If so, it isn't like you'll ever see it and you can't beat that for ~50 dollars.

I can see some stitching issues on the top right corner, it doesn't appear to follow the contour of the dash pad either?

They have multiple options for material, color and pattern…etc.
What kinds di you select?
Thanks a lot.

abutterman 04-18-2013 10:26 AM

I noticed the stitching on top as soon as i opened it up but since it's literally only one stitch that they missed i'm ok with that. It's bound to happen here and there regardless of who makes it when they're hand made them since they're all made to order and not mass produced. I can even pick out a few examples of the stitching being off a little bit on my $800 leather coat so it's to be expected. I was going to put that side facing the back but realized the other side was supposed to be the back as it had 2 small slits cut in it to allow it to stretch over to the reverse lockout. (not sure if they need to use the slits on all possible designs or just with the stripes since the stripe is it's own piece and has to be stitched in and that part ends up stiffer since the leather is rolled in on the inside and creates seams) but all in all i'm quite pleased for $50 shipped.

Their stock picture of the dash pad stitching is definitely of concern but it was literally their first one they made like that so hopefully mine will be ok. For good measure, i added a comment in my order to try to get that even lol

I just kept it simple and got the black alcantara with red stitching to match my stock parts and JPM Coachworks gauge cluster hood.

abutterman 04-18-2013 04:02 PM

i ordered basically the same thing but with black leather instead with the red stitching. I just hope it's cut in a way that it won't interfere with getting the pieces to clip back in. If it wraps around the that edge where the 2 meet, it might be too thick. Guess we'll see what happens

abutterman 04-18-2013 04:05 PM

i just put the ebrake boot up to handle to see how it'll look and it blends so nice with the leather texture of the plastic they used for the center console. I might get it glued up to the frame tonight

well get at'er. i wanna see both together

How well does the stitching match the stitching on the seats?

when you look at it closely, you can see that the stock stitching is more of a bright, almost somewhat pinkish red while the red stitching that was used on my boots is more of a pure red. The only part you would actually notice it against though is the stitching on the brake handle (on the brz). otherwise no one will ever notice. They do offer plenty of thread colors though so there's always the option of just going with black or anything else.

abutterman 04-19-2013 04:14 PM

i'll have it back in the car in about 2 hours when i head out of work :) nothing like some lunch time arts and crafts

abutterman 04-19-2013 06:55 PM

added a picture of the 2 installed together on the first post. Gluing the brake boot down wasn't a problem but when trying to clip it back into the center console, the added thickness of the leather makes it a huge pain. I had to really press hard on it to get it down and secure but it came out pretty nice

Redline Dash Cover

2 Attachment(s)
Received the dash covers from Redline today. Quality is fine but I think the BRZ radio in Europe must be a little smaller.

cslntuee 04-20-2013 06:55 PM

How to install this cover?

Thanks.

mezdup 04-20-2013 06:59 PM

@abutterman looks slick man. money well spent

abutterman 04-20-2013 08:53 PM

that doesn't look like it was cut right at all. there's a huge amount of extra material around the edges and it's not cut to leave room for the clips at all. I just emailed them to see if yours was a mistake or what the deal is.

I installed the dash cover and it looks fine - except the BRZ is slanted. I have purchased from Redline before and never had any problems up until now. The cutout for the radio was too small but that is a problem I can understand given that different countries have different radios. But the slanted BRZ was something that should have been discovered before shipping. Also I don't see how it is going to be possible to have both the radio cover and the dash cover on at the same time.

The stitching looks like it's crooked too. That thing would cause an OCD seizure like no other.

That's what I was saying earlier. :( You're honestly better off ponying up a bit more and going with JPM. You don't have to worry about crooked stitching, installing the material yourself--plus they guarantee fitment. There's a reason redline is cheaper. Granted, the shiftboot is only $10 cheaper from redline and probably negated in shipping cost.
