BRZ + Supercharger = ??? 1/4 mile

Anyone know what 1/4 mile time is possible after adding a supercharger?
Just playing around with some of the online 1/4 mile calculators, it looks like 13.xx???

Will it really break into the 13s with a supercharger?

.

SloS14 04-15-2013 08:42 AM

That's like saying, how fast would a BRZ be with a motor swap? Too many variables but yes long story short, 13's are easily obtainable.

@Chris@Phastek ran a few quarters last time he went to the track. He was hitting 14.0163.

^ That's pretty disappointing. A forum member ran a 14.2 with a Gpro timer on a backroad with just bolt-ons.

I read there were some unfavorable conditions. I hope more guys get out to the strip. I'd love to see someone put down a mid 13.

girlracer 04-15-2013 10:55 AM

Interesting. I would like the BRZ to be at least as fast as a 370Z.
Using this site to calculate 1/4 mile times: http://robrobinette.com/et.htm

I'm looking at the Z:
Curb Weight: 3232
Flywheel HP: 332
1/4 mile: ~13.2

BRZ:
Curb Weight: 2762
WHP (w/ supercharger): 230(is that about right)?
Theoretical 1/4: 13.3

Huehuecoyotl 04-15-2013 10:57 AM

I'm game to go run mine in a few weeks once I am done with my upgrades
Right now I have too much rear camber dialed in to do well at a 1/4 test, I'd need to reset for straightline traction in the rear

swift996 04-15-2013 11:14 AM

Yeah, all I really want is about a 13.2 sec 1/4 mile time straight line speed. I'm basically trying to attack Porsche Cayman S'.

husker741 04-15-2013 11:21 AM

Just get the Full Blown stage 2 turbo. That thing should easily see 11's or 10's with the right tires and driver.

vtmike 04-15-2013 11:37 AM

That time and trap seems about right. My previous car (neon srt 4) made similar power (230 whp) and had similar curb weight (2890) and ran almost identical time and trap speed.

How much does the supercharger weight? I bet an frs with supercharger is right around the same weight.

When more of the superchargers (not just the HKS [http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32172]) are making +300 whp, maybe even 260/270-ish whp, we'll see a lot more people hitting in the mid/low 13s to high 12s. But I think the biggest factor of it is who is behind the wheel.

What I'd like to see though is sub-5 second 0-60s. :P

kioton32 04-18-2013 02:17 AM

I'm hoping that once I get mine done ill be able to get into the high 11s... I've been drag racing for 21 years now... I should be around 340 hp at the wheels

Yes but I do all my own tuning and internal mods as well... It's not going to have a stock block...with everything I have down so far I should be close to the number on pump gas 93 octane... I just need the twin screw setup from innovate so I van go with a bigger blower, intercooler and fuel system... 340-350 wont be out of the realm... Plus to top it off ill be running slicks at the track...

If you have all that and plan on running it at the strip (which I wanna do to mine ) I assume ur better off with a turbo considering that you are going to build your internals , moaar boost and an anti lag setup or a launch control tune ul be way better then a sc :)

My 2 cent

kioton32 04-18-2013 12:42 PM

I don't want the possible boost spike of a turbo though... It's not going to be a straight track car... I will still be driving it on the street and like the reliable boost of an SC over turbo... Plus I won't have to deal with the torque dip that this engine has... But I appreciate the input...

That sounds like a killer build. Twin screw on this car is going to fly at the strip, I'm sure you'll get into the 11's with that.

11's have been done on a stock block already if I'm correct :sigh:

Actually, proper tunning alone should get rid of the torque dip. That plus anti-lag launch control should be ideal for your set up + if you are only looking for a 12-13 sec car and have built internals it sould be safe for DD.

With Overboost protection you don't need to worry about a boost spike.

Xdragonxb0i 04-18-2013 02:22 PM

it doesnt quite matter the methods, just the HP and TQ curves.

500whp will get you in the 12s or less but at this point the the problem will be putting all the power down to the wheels

Supermassive 04-18-2013 02:34 PM

What kills me about that HKS Supercharger making 300HP is how little torque they make. I'm running 7lbs of boost on my turbo setup which is good for 260WHP with 211 Wtq, while the 300WHP HKS setup is making only 222Wtq...

Superchargers are cute...

Also boost spikes come from equipment issues/failures, also if you get a good tune with EcuTek or run an AEM failsafe you can protect your car from such issues.

It's a RWD car its not rocket science :) We have a parking lot of street class FWD cars that run mid 8's-9's and daily driven ones that run low 10's.

kioton32 04-18-2013 04:19 PM

I feel more comfortable with the twin screw SC though... Just my preference... To each there own right...

You might want to do some research about it. You can't just wack a bigger blower like the 335 onto a 210 based setup... 210 has a max of 300hp which won't happen either.

QuikSilveRX-8 04-18-2013 04:37 PM

Don't try to make a car be something it's not. You can do it, it's not impossible, but you can likely get to that goal cheaper, faster, and more enjoyably picking a car that is already much closer to your goal.

I will be fine taking a base system and modifying it to be what I want... Putting a larger blower means ill have to modify the bracket and base and I'm fine doing that... I know what om doing and am not going to ruin anything... I'll be doing a full build thread to show progress and it will be fine.

SRT4's with stickier tires would easily hit a 13.8 otherwise stock, and since RWD hooks up way better I wouldn't doubt an FR-S could easily hit a couple tenths faster still.

An e46 M3 will run a low 13 with the stock 330hp at the crank and about 600lbs more weight (they're ~3400lbs), so I see no reason why an FR-S making an honest 250whp couldn't run low 13's either.

I ran a 13.047 with my M3 (w/ intake) and had a friend run a 13.9 many years ago in a bone stock SRT4.

So you are going to spend 3.6k on a kit and only have use for one pipe? The inlet, outlet, placement and size (specifically length) may mean that it wont even fit let alone the extensive modification.

Perhaps it would make much more sense to start from scratch if you knew what you are doing?

There's at least one car making ~400whp on video running an 11.3@127mph, 500whp is enough to get deep in the 10's if the transmission holds up.

Accelerated Performance posted an 11.2 on 460WHp, so yeah it's possible.

I need the intake manifold, fuel rail, downtube, pulley, belt, and the ecu remapping tune for the Twin Screw... A TS SC is a lot different then a turbo tune or centri SC so I need thier tune to modify.

stockysnail 04-19-2013 01:07 PM

I would guess upper 13s-14s with low to mid 200s in whp, as it will depend on the driver as well as the car. I've only drag raced a couple times and with a tuned VW R32 with 285chp I did low 14s and with a stock evo 9 rs I did about the same, which seems right since they had similar horses to weight and both all wheel drive.

And their trap is good for a high 10 second pass. This car doesn't need more than 425rwhp to get into the 10's, it just needs the traction.

For a bit of perspective, a 2014 mustang runs high 11's with that power.

skatery1989 04-19-2013 02:11 PM

Thinking about going this week to see how the superchager helped my time.

BRZ NA 09-07-2014 12:12 PM

Just curious, how much is Jackson supercharger kit weight? I assumed that Turbo charger kit might weight less right?

Doesn't matter, HP is what really wins races.

You really thought this was the year old thread to bump to get that question answered? Go ask that question in the Jackson Racing Owner's thread. I would say that a JR supercharger using the OEM header would weight more overall than a turbo kit.
