Frs not being produced in auto?
At a dealership, multiple reps telling me frs is no longer being made in auto. Bullshit?

Bullshit..

I had a rep very confidently tell me that they're definitely making a turbo for the frs.
They don't know anything. |

There is talk about a supercharged version in 2015 but nothing in stone yet... Toyota was very adament about not turboing the car from the factory and shot down the Subaru execs many times
|
Good, I feel justified in laughing at them, cause I figured I would have read that here first if it were true.. Lol

well if they were serious about moving cars they wouldnt make autos. 6MT are the only ones you can never find on the lot. only ones ive seen sitting at the dealers are AT.
maybe when they make the convert... |
At ourisman Chantilly in Virginia, they got 5 manual frs in the lot, all with their "appearance package" of tint, Mudflaps, and stupid ugly ass pin stripe. $960 pkg. Lol. Also, one rep I talked to was leaning on the back of an frs smoking a cigarette and ashing all I've the trunk.

I had the dealer tell me that since I was getting the BRZ Limited, it came with electric seats
|
BRZ comes with AWD.

On my test drive of a 6A/T, the supremely overconfident salesboy told me:
"This has 245 horsepower, same as a Mazdaspeed 3 and almost as fast" (The car he currently owns) "I don't know why the shift lever moves sideways" (I showed him and then demonstrated the paddle shift and rev match feature I'd only read about) "The rear seats do not fold down" (I believed him until finding the trunk straps and just for laughs pulled on one and the seatback of course dropped flat) In fairness, he'd been a car salesman a little short of two weeks. I gently suggested he take some brochures home to study at night and check out this site, but he was busy texting his GF. |
I am constantly amazed at how stupid some of these sales guys are. Most aren't car guys. Whenever I shop for a car I do my research and always ask a fairly obscure question about the car to see if they know what they are talking about. Any good salesman has to have product knowledge.

Automatics will sale to all the kids that can't drive manuals, to the 30+ fems wanting the "cute" little car at the dealership, and to people that just simply don't want a manual. There are many, many more of these. I'd love to see the sales split auto vs. manual. |
I rep once told me the engine was a toyota

Scion guy told this to me a few months back: "Oh yeah, there's an interior upgrade option for the FRS, but we don't have any in stock, we have to order it from the factory...put down a deposit and I'll get one for you..." :laughabove: |

edit.... As of November 2012.... To-date, 52-percent of Scion FR-S models are sold with a manual transmission. While the manual transmission is the most engaging option on the FR-S, the automatic certainly isn’t a boring slushbox. Seventy percent of BRZs sold are equipped with a manual transmission. |

Real car guys accept all forms of transmissions, engines, cars, groups and styles associated in the car world. Sorry old man. |

It's quit comical how much some of us from this forum knew versus the sales rep we bought from. The guy I bought from was really a stand up guy but had his information all wrong, possibly due to poor training from the dealership. He was coming up on a year at the dealership that I bought my FRS from, drove a stupid clean slightly modded silvia s14 (that he bought from the dealership 4 weeks prior as he got his corolla totaled in an accident), and I was his first FRS sale. The car that we wanted to have a look at was parked right outside of the show room floor but at an angle to another adjacent car on a curb, so our salesman was going to have to back it out and down a narrow ramp to have it ready for us. I stood there and watched the guy go into 6th gear 3 times and scratch his head wondering why he couldn't get the car to go into reverse, I couldn't help myself but stand there and giggle. My fiancee was a lot nicer than me and he helped point out where and how to get into reverse and the salesman admitted that he didn't even know the FRS was a 6-speed, nevermind that the reverse gear was in the opposite direction relative to his 5-speed s14. The icing on the cake was that even though it was December of 2012, this was his first time ever driving the FRS that day. I bought from one of the highest volume dealerships in all of central Florida, they had 5 FRSs on the lot that day alone. :bonk: |

The FRS/BRZ are beating the trend. First year sales are mainly to enthusiast. Demographics are demographics kid. I'll accept the old man statement. You whipsnapper you! |

Manufacturers have training and incentives structured to retain good salespeople and managers. If applied as intended by the dealer principal (meaning they don't keep the incentives to themselves), they can be effective. Retailing anything is tough. Automotive retail in a world unto itself. It's beyond cutthroat, bordering on immoral at times. As others said, do your own research and understand that the claims and promises made by a salesperson are worthless unless written into a contract signed by a manager. |
When I went in to test drive and purchase my FR-S the Sales Manager (who I've dealt with for years and knows me very well) purposely put me with a brand new salesman. He told him to listen to everything I said and to ask me lots of questions about the car. He knew I'd already done my homework and knew more about the cars than his salesmen.
When we got done with everything the salesman thanked me for the 'lessons'. I should have gotten his commission! |
When I was shopping in June of last year I didn't care whether I bought the BRZ or FR-S. I visited multiple Subaru dealerships and the local Toyota dealer that I have a relationship with.
At my first Subie dealer I inquired about a model that I knew to be inbound to their lot due to Subaru's online inventory system. They had to verify, took 10 minutes, then the sales woman brought in the sales manager to talk to me about the car. I asked them if they could call me when it comes in so I could test drive. I told them I was considering both the FR-S and the BRZ. He proceeded to tell me about 20 things that the BRZ has over the FRS. I listened politely. When he was done I told him that he was wrong and that about the only mechanical difference was spring rates....at that point they told me they'd need a non-refundable deposit from me. I walked and never went back. |

- Better brakes - Different suspension components - Better transmission - "sport exhaust" Can't remember everything. 20's an exaggeration on my part but there were several things he rattled off... after the first few I just smiled and started thinking about how much BS he was trying to feed me. |
