FR-S sets new Time Trial track record at Roebling Road!

Just got off track and wanted to give a quick update, full story to follow.

In the final session of the day today, and the only time I got on track, I set a new track record for the TTD class in NASA time trial competition at Roebling Road! The old record, held by my friend Dan Wildman in his S2000, was a 1:22.5.

I turned a 1:21.990 this afternoon and hope to improve on that a bit more tomorrow morning when it's nice and cool out.

More photos and video to follow from tomorrow's sessions! Mega thanks to John Visconti for helping sort out the tune too! Diagnosed a CEL via text message and had me back out in the hunt!

I love this car!

In for the video

Are you still using BC coilovers?

Arsenal Autosport 04-14-2013 03:01 PM

Still using BCs, yes.

Last time of the day was a 1:20.257, lowering the record another full second!

By the time I had clear track this morning I was on my 9th or 10th lap and the tires were past their prime laps for that session. The second session started with a clear lap right from the get go and I made it count! Video to come when I get home.

What are the wheel specs?

campy 04-14-2013 03:56 PM

What mods are you running other than wheels/suspension?

My question exactly, because whatever it it..its working

olddragger 04-14-2013 04:41 PM

I want to see that. A 1:20 at RR is only 7 secs slower than a prepared GTR.
I dont want to disclaim it --but we have been running that track for years and I know a LOT of people on R compounds tires/great brakes and good power/weight ratios that would love to have a 1:20 time there. Especially in a approx 12:1 car--if I remember right that is about the power to wgt ratio in TTD?

Are you going to be at Road Atlanta and if so what do you estimate you time will be there? If Roebling is a 1:20 then you should be able to do a sub 1:40 at RA?
Any vids?
Nice looking car:) Always liked the black.

Vonsamhain 04-15-2013 01:05 AM

Good news. I plan o run ttd in nasa fore too long

Power to weight in TTD is actually 14:1. I don't know that I'll make it to Road Atlanta with the car this year. I've only been there twice before - once a long time ago, and once last year in a newly built racecar that I was helping shake down. I believe that Roebling Road is one of the strongest tracks for the FR-S because of the fast sweeping corners, I think it will suffer a bit at Atlanta because of the long uphill back-straight. 1:40 at Road Atlanta should be achievable. Sub 1:40? Not sure, I guess I'll need to give it a try. I may end up there in Nov or Dec in another car and If I can bring the Scion, I will.

Ask and you shall receive! :)

Was that a predicted laptime of 1:19 on the SoloII? Nice driving!

Gixxersixxerman 04-15-2013 04:16 AM

I love and loath that track.. I was running 1:28's on my GSXR 600 there.. Also binned it in turn 4 I believe think, for, some reason I could make it around 100mph... No.. I can't.. At least not that day.. That last corner.. The right handed that last forever.. Is tons of fun knee on the ground leaned over, trying to give it full throttle..

Nice work man

DarkSunrise 04-15-2013 10:17 AM

Congrats, very impressive!

BadCompany235 04-15-2013 10:18 AM

Best track for frs gearing So far for me was amp. Magic number there is 1:36 I think. I run a 40 on 215 PSS. Same car pat wilmot has run 38.

phastafrican 04-15-2013 01:03 PM

Glad the chin cam was on after all... great driving, and congrats on that time. What did you have to come back to the track for, btw?

Had to bring a borrowed transponder back. Oops!

SnapOv3st3r 04-15-2013 02:39 PM

I've ran there as well. Nicely done.

wootwoot 04-15-2013 04:42 PM

you are my hero.

olddragger 04-15-2013 09:07 PM

thanks for the response. Nice lap. But I swear on my last can of pork and beans that there is something else going on here:) Racers secrets are ok by me---lol. Nothing illegal now--no sir-- not suggesting that at all.
Was the car as loose as the steering wheel suggested ( under or over?) Sorry I couldnt tell.
I am glad I am not the only one that leans like that!
But at the end--great lap--beautiful car and pretty good driving. Glad the BRZ is showing its capability.

The first time I watched the footage I saw the same thing and freaked out.

"WHAT?! I had a 19 going?!"

Haha... it was showing a 2:19, which must have been the previous/warmup lap.

Jon Kozlow is the TTD record holder at Road Atlanta. I can't believe you were able to put 2.6 seconds on his E36 M3. Awesome driving. I wish I was running some NASA Southeast events this year to see the car. Are you running an E85 tune from Visconti?

olddragger 04-16-2013 09:31 PM

My big bad! Not BRZ! FT86 ftw!
It is easy to confused us old men......

I am, yes. Looks like Sebring next weekend is going to work out. I think the TTD record there is a 2:34.4 in a turbo Miata. I doubt that the car will be as good at Sebring with all of the long straights, but I guess we'll see. Should be pretty quick in 1, 3-5, bishops, 16 and 17.

A friend with a well prepped and well driven BRZ on street tires (though not really to TTD spec) has done 2:39s, so I oughta be in the ballpark.

Deep Six 08-18-2013 07:45 AM

Jon, thanks for the FB support and sharing the videos. FOM is at Roebling this weekend and I got into the 23's on day 1!
