Turbo FRS with tail light condensation

Hello Guys

Im getting tail light condensation again.
They were replaced once and now its happening again
My frs is turbo now so Im not sure if they will cover it again

What do u guys think?

YourFearlessLeader 04-13-2013 08:18 PM

Why wouldnt they cover your tails? One is not related to the other.
Did you modify them?

husker741 04-13-2013 08:18 PM

Good excuse to get some spyder or valenti tails.

cnk 04-13-2013 08:19 PM

Honestly, it's not like Subaru/Toyota have figured out the fix for them yet. They will just replace it and then you'll probably get condensation again in a few months. Your best bet is to just make some thicker gaskets yourself and call it done.

No modifications but you know how dealers are

whitefrs 04-13-2013 08:20 PM

How hard is to do the gasket thing?

mashal 04-13-2013 08:22 PM

Dealer won't say anything , if your power train had failed then maybe they would blame the turbo .. But lights?

What are they gonna say the boost caused the condensation?

P.s: you went FI knowing your warranty may be voided , it may be voided with this or next time you go .. Who knows

So what's the turbo have to do with the tail light condensation?

Voiding the whole warranty

xwd 04-13-2013 09:00 PM

There is no such thing as voiding the whole warranty. They have to cover your tailights even if you had a different engine in the car...

Nothing, but you know dealers, some would try to find any excuse they can. :iono:

If some dealers wont do it, I'm sure another will. I also remember reading a thread where a dealer let the guy do the taillights himself because he told them how there is a specific way to install and what not so they were able to send him the tails to do himself.

Lol
Wanna help? :)

n2oinferno 04-13-2013 09:43 PM

Warranties aren't voided. Claims are denied because an aftermarket part was the reason for the failure. Unless your turbo was the cause for the tail light leaking they'll take care of it.
It's possible that they'll note your car as having aftermarket forced induction though, so any claims on the engine in the future could be denied. Unfortunately there are lot of people that commit warranty fraud so it wouldn't surprise me if that went into your record.

I put in thicker gaskets myself, just need the foam and adhesive.

Dealership will say...
your driving so fast that the rain gets whipped inside the tails...I'm sorry your warranty is voided.

Could we interest you in an extended warranty? ...:thanks:

whitefrs 04-14-2013 09:53 AM

I think im just gonna paint them candy red and call it a day

Cryotechnician 04-14-2013 12:28 PM

Those dealers are also fully aware that warranty claims cannot be denied for modifications made to the vehicle that clearly have nothing to do with the issue at hand. They can try, but it only works on the stupid and uninformed, which you will NOT be when you get there.

As soon as they become aware that you know this, you shouldn't have too much of an issue. If they still refuse, go to another dealer AND call Scion HQ on the original dealer.

Why would they open the hood for a tail light problem? Just in case, refuse the complimentary inspection.

No idea why you'd need to pop the hood to replace tail lights...

No sir I did not :p I went and asked my buddy that works at the dealership about who i should really be talking to unfortunately that person wasnt in that day. Im compiling a list of issues to talk to the real person in charge about ;)

NickFRS 04-19-2013 06:17 AM

It will be covered under warranty. If you need a ticket reference number PM me. I have a corporate number if you run into any issues. Don't listen to these noobs saying a turbo makes a dealer show you their back. also anyone should ask for the general manager if you get turned away or an idiotic response. And if the general manager turns you away call corporate right in front of the dude so you can hand them the phone.

Typically, the first line in any electrical repair manual will say "Disconnect the battery".
