Roebling Road Raceway

I'm located down in the Savannah/Hinseville area with a White FR-S. I'm about to take it to Roebling Road on May 4-5 with Dark Side's Driving Events. I plan on doing something semi-regularly at this track and for any other track close by if anyone else is in the area wanting to join in.

King Tut 04-12-2013 12:24 PM

Roebling is a great track. I wish I was going to the NASA Southeast weekend this weekend. I might be persuaded to make the drive in my BRZ to run an event there later this year once I add some cooling.

dc50818 04-15-2013 08:24 PM

i run there regularly with my s2k with seat-time.com. just got a frs next week so i def plan on taking it out there soon

GTM_Challenge 04-15-2013 08:36 PM

Roebling was the location of my first track day ever. I loved it. Great track that's really easy to pick up.

dc50818 04-15-2013 08:39 PM

oh i love it there one of the tracks where u do need a stupid fast car to keep up with other really fast cars

Why do we disagree so often? lol

Tracks Ranked IMO:
Every track on earth.
PBIR.
RRR.
End of list.

:)

Same here. Great beginners track. Lots of runoff and nice and flat.

SnapOv3st3r 04-15-2013 11:21 PM

I enjoyed RR also. Wish I could make it down there with my car. I will have to visit that one again. Just stay out of the sand when parking...lol. Got it everywhere.

Wait.. flat is good? lol

It's nothing but a rhythm track and any groups that run straight-only passing means tons of trains.. and not being able to leave whenever, etc.. ugh.. I've never done a DE there, only races, but I still hate it.

Because you only have straight away talent.... I kid I kid :D. I think there is no better track out there to learn double apex corners. No better track to see how big your attachments are in turn 3. I haven't made the trip down to try PBIR to comment on that. If I had to rank the tracks I have run:

Sebring
Road Atlanta
Roebling
NOLA
CMP
Memphis
Talladega GP
Nashville

Any track is better than no track, but RRR is hardly a destination.

You guys need more VIR and Barber in your life.

I get plenty of VIR in my life.. and autobahn.. and mid ohio.. and sebring.. etc.

For GA, RA and AMP are clear winners over RRR. If I lived in GA or North Florida I'd gladly drive the extra hours for either Sebring, RA or AMP.

I forgot to mention I don't like Homestead either lol mostly because it's pretty boring IMO.

I have run across RRR during a race with a junkyard front suspension assembly and a dog before though, that was a fun experience :)

I guess I just like to run on tracks that are great instead of mediocre when I'm spending hundreds of dollars to do so ;)

bestwheelbase 04-16-2013 01:48 AM

@Dave-ROR Was the dog also from the junkyard or did I misinterpret your description? Sounds like quite a weekend. :D

Sebring is fun to watch but my gosh it looks like hell on equipment.

Dave-ROR 04-16-2013 01:50 AM

To rank the tracks I've run.. hmm..

1. Sebring (Mostly because it's my home track and still a great drive).
2. Mid Ohio
3. VIR
4. AMP
5. CMP
7. MAM
8. Daytona
9. Autobahn Country Club (great track but for some reason I just didn't love it)
10. Gingerman
11. BeaveRun (although once the south course is finished and I go back and run full course that might change!)
12. Charlotte Motor Speedway
13. PBIR
14. RRR
15. Homestead (yeah it's worse than RRR IMO....)

I need to run Watkins and RA(merica). And I really enjoyed my short time on AMP and want to revisit it. Maybe for a race later this year but one of the co drivers is going to have a baby right around that time so maybe not for a race...

The dog was with one of our co drivers.. first stint into a seven hour race Clinton spun and got t boned by a civic. broke the front knuckle, shock, brake line, sheared upper ball joint (and bent upper control arm) and bent the sway bar bracket. Luckily our one co driver arrived late so he had his truck outside the track, we ran out during the lunch stoppage (have to cross the track to get in/out of the track facilities), got everything from the junkyard but couldn't make it back in time before the track was hot again, so we arranged with the race organizers to let use run across during the race in a break in traffic. The track people didn't seem happy about that, but it was definitely a highlight of that race.

Sebring full course isn't too bad really, club course is murder on brakes. But the bumps, etc still aren't exactly friendly :)

The RRR track people don't seem happy about a lot of things, is my experience. :bonk:

But when you gotta deliver a new control arm, you gotta deliver a new control arm. :laughabove:

My girlfriend digs Sunset Bend. She got comfy on the hill beside the overpass and watched day turn to night at the 12 Hours. That's when I knew she was hooked.

In other words you would rather drive on the newer more expensive "country club" tracks. No respect for the history of Roebling Road or the simplicity of it? It is a once a year track for me, and I have enjoyed it every time. I do wish they had a bridge over the track like at Sebring and Road Atlanta though. I went to lunch and didn't make it back before the first session after lunch started and of course my race was the second session. I never got my car to grid faster than I did that day, and I only started a lap down. :(

Agree. It's in the middle of a shanty town and the lack of extra entrances/exits makes things interesting.

I REALLY want to get out to Barber ASAP. Followed by a road trip to VIR.

King Tut 04-16-2013 11:38 AM

I keep waiting each year for NASA to get a Barber event, but I am not confident it is going to happen. Me and akhuei were thinking about hitting up the Rezoom event at Barber later this year if you wanted to join us.

Sebring and VIR are both older than RRR. I don't care much for RRR's history really, the simplicity of it is deceiving. Mid Ohio is just slightly younger. The only real country club track I listed was Autobahn and I don't rank it that highly. Well I guess AMP tries to be a country club track also but it's nowhere near one yet. AWESOME track though.

Also, it costs me MORE to run RRR than Sebring. There's no way I'd drive home after a DE (or race) from there, so that's 2 nights in a hotel, more gas there and back, plus more time involved. Consumables are lower though.

We've done well racing there when the car hasn't broken, but everyone on the team agrees that it's a "if no other events work out" choice...

I have driven home from RRR on Sunday at the end of the day each time about 10 hours. I never really factor price into my track weekend choices, but as you know I only run NASA race weekends right now. That is weird that you say AMP is an awesome track. I haven't gotten that feedback from most of the guys in the Southeast especially the racers. It might be more of a destination DE track though, and I was signed up for the first NASA event there before they cancled it because the track wasn't ready in time. I will definitely get up there and hopefully race there.

Oh I actually think it's horrible for racing. I should have clarified that (most readers here care about DEs more I'd guess). I think I mentioned that to the guys (ironchef, ATL BRZ, etc) I was there with before. IMO if you ran a spec miata race there you'd have more cars leaving on flatbeds rather than driving off the track.

For DE's it's a blast though.

I can't do that drive home, I'm exhausted usually. I guess it never helps that I end up helping friends finish thier own cars until 2am the night before events though.

We thought about running there in November with Chumpcar even though I suggested against it (it was the backup selection this year as VIR and Sebring races are bad for others schedules). Instead we might run CMS in June right after Daytona in late May.

King Tut 04-16-2013 12:12 PM

Good choice. I want to run both Charlotte and Daytona one day. NASA used to do a race weekend at Charlotte, but they canned it this year. I'm jealous of how many track days you get to do a year. I have got to get a crap can racing team together and get to some more weekends each year.

GTM_Challenge 04-16-2013 12:31 PM

Put me on a track, I don't care which one!
