BRZ featured in new GRID 2 trailer.

The BRZ gets a lot of face time in this new trailer for GRID 2. Definitely excited for this game, GRID is still my favorite racing game of all time for PC.

Never played grid, is it similar to midnight club where you can upgrade your car or more like rally sport challenge where you can't upgrade ?

djdnz 04-11-2013 10:38 AM

They don't have dash cams :(

I'll pick it up when its in the bargain bin on steam

m.wood0213 04-11-2013 12:49 PM

Gonna be a GOOD game!!!

bmxbandit 04-11-2013 01:17 PM

can't wait! loved the first grid game. makes it even better having the BRZ in it.

Moshpit37 04-11-2013 01:29 PM

There isn't as much customization as say, Forza or even Gran Turismo, but the gameplay is top notch, graphics are amazing, and the physics engine is second to none. Codemasters have narrowed their focus to racing games only in the last couple years (F1, DiRT, and GRiD series) and their attention to detail really shows. If you haven't yet played it, I HIGHLY encourage you to check out DiRT 3, best racing game out there right now, and it's been on the market for 2 years.

glorydays 04-11-2013 01:30 PM

No cockpit view? Seems its gonna go the way tdu2 did where they make it extremely corny and neuter the physics. Cant wait til next gen

akuhei 04-11-2013 01:33 PM

Will definitely be getting this.

DubGUy 04-11-2013 01:38 PM

It's a good thing I pre-ordered my game a year ago! Now I can't wait to see the BRZ in the game!

Chad 04-11-2013 02:03 PM

To be honest I don't think the cockpit view is very good in racing games across the board. The only one I use it for is F1 2012.

It's not actually that realistic if you think about it. I use the hood view (which i believe is still in here otherwise I would be shitting myself)... The hood view is the most realistic especially when using a steering wheel for a controller. Otherwise you are looking at yourself steering and another steering wheel before seeing the road.

Just my opinion but I've found this view to be really good in Grid, and all the Dirt games and I'm way faster on the road with it.

As for why they took it out of the game??? Doesn't make much sense to me cause it's always fun to lock it to this camera online to weed out the pros from the joe's using 3rd person.

WingsofWar 04-11-2013 02:31 PM

yes! Grid places in my top 5 favorite racing games. I'm getting this game!

Chen 04-11-2013 02:35 PM

When does this game come out?!

Books 04-11-2013 02:41 PM

Loved GRID. Was planning on getting GRID 2, now I'm definitely getting it.

No cockpit view is news to me, really disappointed about that. How else am I going to justify using 3 monitors???

Use the hood cam and drive with a wheel. As Chad said, when you sit in your car do you put a fake steering wheel in front of you so you can see the fake steering wheel turn as your real wheel turns? :D

I generally race in third person as well. It's a flat screen, so depth perception and peripheral vision aren't the same for those of us with single displays.

Shinryu 04-11-2013 03:42 PM

I could never really get into the first game. I liked the concept and progression, and the visuals and damage were quite impressive. The gameplay and physics just never managed to feel right to me, though...

encity5 04-11-2013 04:23 PM

GRID!
another racing game to use on my simrig!

I liked the first one, but never got into it, it never seemed to work well with a 900 degree steering wheel

As much as I like TDU2, the physics in that game are horrendous not to mention the assholish drivers ramming plus driving on the wrong side of the road. I drove around in the Veyron SS a lot just to deter people from trying to ram me.

LeeMaster 04-11-2013 04:50 PM

Wow now I am 100% sure I am getting this game for the PC. Part 1 has the most realistic high-end drift car physics, and I hope part 2 can do the same. Hopefully no upgrades like part 1 so everyone can be on an even level playing field, save those upgrades for Forza and Gran Turismo.

motofan 04-11-2013 05:39 PM

wayyyyyy too much wheel spin for Europeans!

WolfsFang 04-11-2013 05:55 PM

Once they threw out cockpit view i threw the game off my radar.

The most immersive setup for three monitors is cockpit view with the game set to not draw the wheel or the driver's hands. Hood view just seems weird to me. I want to be able to look at my side mirrors and out the windows.

Anyway if it's anything like the last one its going to be arcade-y anyway, so it doesn't really matter I guess. I'd rather stick to iRacing or SimBin stuff personally.

RazBRZ 04-11-2013 06:07 PM

The first grid was awesome. A cross between Forza and Need for speed. A perfect fun balance of sim and arcade style and the Best/Easiest drift physics I've played. I hope they don't change 2 to much from the first one. As for no cockpit view. Yeah it's a bummer but it takes a lot of time, effort, money, and could sacrifice other areas of the game. That's the go to but the hood will be just fine. Not every game can be as perfect and detailed as Forza. This game is meant for more fun than hard core racers

SnapOv3st3r 04-11-2013 07:20 PM

I have the first Grid and it's arcadey so sorry about "second to none" physics with this series, but that's just not true. I will still get it though, cause I did like the drifting on it despite the sorta twitch the cars have to them.

Physics engine is definitely second to alot actually. Forza(not horizon) and GT have the best physics bar none.

This has arcade physics, just look at the "grip" driving, they drifting all over the bloody place. Im sorry but McLaren f1 long tails and GT cars dont drift like that in real physics engines lol.

I dont think i saw one shot in that clip that the car wasnt going sideways, we all know thats not the fasts way around a track.

Im not saying it isnt a fun game but the physics are also not simulator based thats for sure.

LeeMaster 04-11-2013 08:52 PM

Have you guys ever played this game using a G27 wheel with clutch and turning off all the assists? Physics are very close to real and is what I would expect a real race car would feel like. I would bet my money that you guys never bothered to turn assists off, its actually really fun and REALISTIC.

I use to play this on the pc with a full setup g27, then the fanatec csr wheel and shifters. (In my car journal)

The game never to my knowledge even supported clutch input, and only supported h pattern shifter after a patch.

Regardless I pressed the clutch oedal anyway, but the 1st GRID is no where near realistic from the way the cars acted and the ffb. Really fun though.

So many people in this thread seem to be laboring under the delusion that Grid, Forza, and Gran Turismo have good/realistic physics...

I mean they're fun games, whatever. They are not realistic at all though.

Vracer111 04-12-2013 03:00 AM

The first Grid was okay, but like most racing games - not sim/realistic enough for my tastes. Was definitely fun though. Nice that the GT86 will be in Grid 2 too, always good to have the Toybaru in something.

I'm just going to let these links do all the talking, and from my own personal opinion, physics are as real as it gets.

Now are you convinced the game is as real as it gets?

djdnz 04-12-2013 12:02 PM

What I'm really looking forward to is Project CARS. It's the new one from SlightlyMadStudios, who has many former SimBin devs.

Grid was never realistic, but it was fun none the less.

Not true for the Grid series, they are arcade racers. GT5 still has the best physics of any console game. Simraceway and iRacing are the best for PC.

Have you driven a real race car?

mxsled 04-12-2013 12:18 PM

the first grid was more a arcade racing game:thumbdown:
hope that this one is better

anyway the only racing game i play now is Iracing and it's probably one of the most realistic sim
but the only bad thing about this game is they need more street cars

I'm not going to humor you with a dumb debate on the internet about some stupid shit like this, but "as real as it gets" is literally laughable. Like my co-worker just walked over here to ask me what was so funny.

Go play iRacing. Go play GTR 2. Go play Richard Burns Rally. Go play Race 07. Go play rFactor. Then decide what is "as real as it gets". GT5, Forza, Grid, Dirt, etc are all arcade titles as far as I'm concerned. Maybe GT5 and Forza get close, but they're still casual arcade racers as far as I'm concerned.

edit: 5 articles about the same exact event is not any more convincing than 1. Could save you some time in the future. And also, here: http://www.topgear.com/uk/photos/gee...1-26?imageNo=0

Vracer111 04-13-2013 03:36 PM

I'd also add in netKar Pro to the mix... though I haven't had the chance to try it.

If you want a really good console racing sim (XBOX 360 only) try Race Pro, from Simbin...basically a port of GTR Evolution (so not as good as GTR2, which has to be my favorite Sports Car racing sim ever...)

It would be nice if someone made a stand alone GT86/BRZ/FR-S model for GTR2, haven't seen one yet though. I'm hoping GTR3 also gets released...man it sure looks really nice, but not much news on its progression.

Gixxersixxerman 04-16-2013 10:05 PM

I must be one of the few that buy a racing game... For.. Well a game.. I want it to be "arcady" if I wanted "sim" I'd jump in my car.. Or do the I racer that stuff on nice PC's.. Not on my ps3 or 360... Forza and GT5 sit and collect dust.. Dirt2&3 and grid and PGR 3&4 get played a lot.. I want to play games not real life stuff.. That's my veiw anyhow

I don't know what it is, but for me if a car racing game is not realistic for me it really bugs and frustrates me... so the more realistic it is the more fun I have. Ergo, Forza/Grand Turismo bore and frustrate me... nice car models hampered by frustrating game physics. GTR2 or Richard Burns Rally though = a great time for me, driving for hours and hours at a time with the same car on the same track just knocking out laps. Nothing like a game with proper force feedback, 3 pedals, and physics model to have a great time on the virtual track.

I will say though, that the funnest time I have racing is with Hydro Thunder Hurricane... :party0030:

VesperLynn 04-17-2013 08:34 PM

I'm too excited for this. I've been playing through Grid and I've been absolutely addicted. Finally racing on Extreme and it's got my heart pounding. Can't wait to push the BRZ to the EXTREMEMEMEMEMEMEEMEMMEEEEE!!!!!! :D
