P&L Header Dyno and Fitment test-With my Vortech Test Kit

So, I wanted to know if the new Equal Length P&L header will fit with my Vortech kit, and more importantly if it unlocks any horsepower. The brown truck brings it to me on Tuesday.

Cant Wait, hoping it does for FI what it does for NA.:D

Pics and dyno if it fits...

This will be interesting to see. The P&L unit is solid stuff.

AZFA20 04-05-2013 11:46 PM

I PMed them about the Vortech fitment last week and they made it sound like they felt confident it would have no issues but werent 100% sure. I am glad to see you're getting it though so we shall find out pretty quick haha.

Let me know if your's comes with the "Extra Bung for Wideband 0₂ Sensor (comes plugged)". Not that its a big deal, but mine didn't. @P&L Motorsports

swift996 04-06-2013 11:03 AM

I saw that FA20Club was testing the fitment of theirs w/ vortech. Not sure if they did or not. I ordered theirs, but I'm still NA.

Mobius357 04-06-2013 11:47 AM

If it fits, it should be VERY interesting to see what happens to the mid range torque. Looking forward to seeing the results.

Any word on when you'll have them installed even on the street? Already done or is that the plan for this week?

He should have the header tomorrow, but I don't know when He will have the SC back up and running.
@Huehuecoyotl Any news on getting your kit fixed?

Just as an fyi if you'd like to link to a specific post, on the top right of any post, just click on the post # and then copy the link that opens.

Can't wait for Thursday to see the results

I would imagine that he won't get results until the weekend. If the Vortech comes in thursday, then there's the install, + street tunes, +dyno tunes. That will generally take a bit of time, not to mention if he's working, or tracking the car.

Nah, this is ft86club, if the parts 'should arrive thursday' then we'll all be crying at 2pm on Thursday that there are no dynos, and then people will go off the walls with speculations, and then start a flame war and etc etc.

Either way, can't wait for the results :happy0180: curious to see how headers affects the vortech kit

Its here. its very shiny!

The welds look really good both inside and out
The Flanges are hella-thick like I prefer them to be
workmanship on this prototype is like art work

You can tell alot of time went into each inch of each weld.
Big thanks to Hawaiian for putting this 'test' together. I hardly doubt P&L will ever see this unit again if it fits my car and makes power. Its great that I can try it to see if it fits, even if it dont, not so sure I'm just gonna box it up. Its really nice. Making this fit would be a neat thing to embark on if it didnt, but lets not jump the gun

I feel silly having sent back my SC when it looks like it just burped up fluid from my over filling and that there was likely nothing 'wrong' with it. We will see tomorrow AM when I hear from Vortech. I did confirm they got it in their possession today after 2pm. Its scheduled to be back Thursday, all they know so far and this is a quote "You toasted the fluid"
Lets see if I did any worse. Its beefy stuff, so unless I did a number on the gears as well, I expect it back Thursday, the more pertinent question is, if I followed instructions(and I usually do) how was I able to over fill it unless I didnt drain it completely, so it seems thats what is being looked into 1st.
I would have been bolting this on today, but for good measure, I feel best having Vortech look at my stuff, I run it pretty hard and dont want to damage anything. So I do think its worth the lost day or two, sorry if that disappoints some of you.

There is alot going on with my car so please be patient till I can get to dyno time for this. I am as eager as you all are,I promise. I wanna go rip off the oe one and see if this fits, but I need to stay calm, and follow the more methodical route, put my car back together, spend the time and retest the conditions and past observations and THEN proceed to add this part on

As you know, there will be fitment, co-ordinating with Perrin whose tunes I run and getting time to sync with Jeff while I am at the dyno next week will be the key. I have track time scheduled this weekend so I wont be unbolting the Stock header Sunday PM earliest

Its likely we will have fitment results by mid day Monday just being realistic. Lets hope for dyno time mid week next week?

I have to ask if its paint or some other coating , but the inside appears coated with something...is this CERAMIC coated on the inside? No F-ing way....will verify this with P&L when I talk to them next, but, yeah, this is a keeper. I'm very impressed Pand L +1. Looks like I have to add another name to my signature's 'thanks' line soon.

Turdinator 04-09-2013 09:19 PM

Thank you for the close up pics Gem, it looks great. Can't wait to see the results :coolpics:

P&L Motorsports 04-09-2013 09:44 PM

Thanks for the cool pics! Yes that is actually ceramic coating on the inside, its purpose is to keep more heat inside and speed up the exhaust flow. Also that is not a prototype header, it is actually a production piece #18 I believe All the coated headers look exactly like the one you have there. Looking forward to the results. Keep us posted!

P&L makes some seriously pretty exhaust parts...and turbo parts too ;) I would know I have a full P&L Motorsports catless headerback exhaust system with their turbo header and obviously their turbo kit. Definitely looks amazing when you open the hood or crawl under the car!

My car is sounding a bit more like yours!

Supermassive 04-12-2013 01:24 AM

Lol, maybe at idle and when I'm not in boost...nothing sounds like this car at full scream ;)

King Tut 04-12-2013 11:55 AM

Nothing sounds quite like a loud ass open wastegate.

That header is beautiful Gem! I'd love to hear your opinion on the sound of the catted version. Is it painfully loud in the car or is cat helpful enough at drone reduction? Would you say it's reasonably daily drivable with a reasonably quiet exhaust? Thanks!

xxscaxx 04-12-2013 01:05 PM

Just keep in mind that it will be quieter no matter what from him running F/I.

Either way though, excited to see the power it produces and your review on it.
