Manual or Auto?
What will you be getting? I drive in bad traffic every day for 1.5-2 hours so will probably get an auto. I have enough fun in my auto TC, and I have a motorcycle for shifting fun.
Also wondering how much faster you guys think the Manual with be over the Auto? Are the paddle shifters supposed to help at all? |
Manual for me. Car will be daily and weekend drift car so no other option. I prefer manual anyways.
Ill guess, depending upon the drover, the manual will be quicker off the line than the automatic. But probably just like most cars and itll only be a tenth of a second difference or so. |

Yeah and the automatic sounds like a solid transmission too. The downshift rev matching is cool too. |

Personally I have no interest in an automatic version of this car, but if someone is in your situation it's perfectly understandable :-) Quote:

awesome. i usually downshift to "3" in my TC on curves/turns to get some extra speed and control around corners. ton of fun.

Lol how many of these threads have we had already....

I have severe knee problems, and was considering another VW for the DSG, but this car is too good to pass up. That said Im gonna man up and get the MT, as Im not familiar with this AT, and it has paddles but not dual clutches so that kinda scares me a little...
|
ah "man up". the phrase that got me wasted in college way too often ;)

I'm starting to see and read about all these new cars coming out that have really good automatic transmissions. and I must admit, manual shifting occasionally annoys me in stop and go traffic. I won't be tracking or drag-racing either. I have heard nothing but praise about the paddle shifting. I think that I will test drive before I buy this car. If I blindly order a manual, I MAY REGRET IT. cant believe I just typed that. I owe it to myself to at least TRY that automatic first.
|
I will be getting a manual for sure. I don't like autos.
I will be driving mine fairly hard, so the traffic annoyance is a compromise I am happy to make :) |
Simple. Do what makes you happy. Its your money, your car.
|
If you drive in mostly traffic, why would you want to buy a sports car? If I was commuting in rush hour traffic, I'd buy a first-gen Honda Insight, and keep the sports car for the weekends.
|
Just think how buff your left leg will get from all that in-traffic clutching ;)
They call it MANual for a reason! |

Gotta get a manual!!!

Manual for pure driving experience.
This car is made to be enjoyed and joy only comes from manuals. It's all about real driving. If I was in your position though, I would have probably opted in for the auto as well. I just posted a thread with the official mpg, it gets 3 more in the city and 4 more in the highway. It will help you a lot.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=157344 In terms of fun, the manual, I suspect, will have extremely sporty gear ratios which won't let that smile get off your face. |
