Lap timer button?
 

So I just noticed in this pic that there's a little button next to the clock and next to the hazard button that says ":00". Is this a lap timer button? It's obviously not to set the clock since there's an "h" and "m" button to the left of the clock display.

lol no thats not a lap timer button, i have that on my old subaru its just a time setter you hold it clock starts blinking then you set the hrs or mins you can also press it to make the time go 12:00.

in the old toyota or AE86 its called a set

Lol, long enough. I've never had a car that has a clock separate from the head unit. Why would you even need a "set" button when you can just press the hour or minute button like on my alarm clock to set the time? Doesn't make sense to me.

^ so that if you accidebtly hit m or h you don't accidentally change the time

My WRX just has the H and M buttons.

Mine has a third, mystery button that resets the clock to 12:00. I've only ever used it once, just to find out what it did.

Honda just makes you hold the h or m button for a few seconds to avoid the third button. Needing that third button is poor design, not good design.

Oh and 80s mercury sables have lap timers lol (ok they just called it a timer but....)

That just makes no sense. I would have loved to have been in the meeting where that button was decided on by the engineers.

lol it might look tacky on a BRZ but I want that analog lap timer and clock Porsche puts in as a high dollar option XD

it sets the seconds to 0 on the clock. I use it to synch the clock exactly with my nav because it bothers me if it is any other way. Basically you watch the GPS time and when it ticks over to the next minute, hit that button and the seconds will be synched, then you use the M and H to set the time, and you can achieve perfect clock synchronization.

I was actually hoping the digital speedometer would have a timer mode, since it is redundant anyways. Maybe it will be possible with an ECU hack :)

It doesnt set time to 12:00 in old toyota's, it sets the time to exactly what it says.

So when your time is 14:21 on the clock, and you press :00, it goes to 14:00

Thats how it works in my starlets, corolla AE82, etc.

Make it sound like you havent been in a car made before 2000...

90% of cars have a clock sep from radio/head unit.

LOL, that button re-set your "minutes" to 00, thus the ":00"

Ex: If you going from 1:45 and you want to set to 1:30, you can press the ":00" and hold the "min" for to shorten the time to get to 1:30

I've been in plenty, just never noticed the clock setting mechanisms.
