Anthropomorphizing your 86

How many of you give your vehicles names? And, do you have any names in mind for your 86/BRZ/FRS when you finally get it? Any particular reason for the name you chose?

I tend to name all of my vehicles for a variety of reasons.

Current vehicle: Lexus RX300
Name: Lex. This one seems rather obvious but my wife’s name is also Lex (Alexia) and it was her car first.

Current bike: Yamaha Roadstar 1600(drag pipes, ape hangers, slammed, solo seat)
Name Vicki. The V in Vicki is for the V-twin and Vicki is one of my wife’s, um, role-playing names.;)

Wife’s car: Scion tC
Name Randy. Wife named it Randy because she said that is how it makes her feel when she drives it. (No argument here)

Previous car: 88 Supra MkII Turbo
Name Cleo after Madame Cleo from those infamous commercials long ago. Reason: car was black, had a big butt (that would shake side-to-side in a fishtail), and it took all my money.

Previous bike: 80 KX650 LTD
Named Krystal after a gorgeous red-head that I had a crush on at the time(bike was red) and I loved to ride it everywhere.

The list goes on and on.

Planning on getting a White/Manual and so far the name Chloe keeps popping up for me. It may change once I drive her and her real personality forces a new name.

I dunno, in my experience it seems to be an unhealthy attachment when you start naming your vehicles. The people I know that name their cars are the same type of people willing to have a physical altercation over a door ding or fender bender.

To each their own I guess

whitejdm 01-12-2012 05:42 PM

I've usually name my cars also.

Roxy the RSX type S

Tabitha the Integra Type R

Manfred the 1990 Jetta 16v project car (everyone called it "the baron" so I named him after the Red Baron haha)

Alfred the 335i (it seemed like a german accountants name as the car was silver and boring)

Maggie the Z4 M coupe (so named after Maggie May in the song by Rod Stewart, because she took all of my money and beat the hell out of me but I couldn't stop being in the relationship)

Sip 01-12-2012 06:41 PM

Betty (1992 WRX) daily driver
Veronica (1993 FD RX7) Track whore

They both died in collisions.

Currently Have:
Bianca (White STi RA) DD
Sheba (Black FD) track whore

I have no name for my WRX wagon or My ST205 Celica though, strange.

"the car" "the other car" "the white car" "the Subaru" "the Honda" so on and so forth. I feel bad for forgetting the other ones.

Argent6978 01-12-2012 06:53 PM

I don't think I've ever named a car I've owned... well, I take that back, a couple of years ago I had a 2010 Mustang GT that I called Baby.

Guff 01-12-2012 06:54 PM

The Red Supra is "The red supra"
The White Supra is "The white Supra" (or "the Auto")

And the Avalon is...you guessed it! "The Avalon" (Although sometimes I do call it the Babylon...I don't know why....)

Syldrin 01-12-2012 06:57 PM

my wife calls my tc Blue it's an RS2.0 which is blue....... she can be original like that. i don't name my cars though.

i can't quite wrap my head around how you named your cars.....

my siblings/parents will refer to it as "your car", so most of us will have our cars recognized by the same name!!!:bonk:

Doric 01-12-2012 07:03 PM

I don't do it often.

Blue Car:

ichitaka05 01-12-2012 07:09 PM

Hm... even though I'm car-holic, I never named my car. Current car is named by my lil bro. He calls it "Red Charisma". Not from Ini-D wanna be, but from Gundam (my bro is Gundam fan).

InF3sTeD 01-12-2012 07:41 PM

I'd probably call her my Eighty-Six lol... Or just Eight-Six

I have a crystler seabring and just call her Seabring :P Same with the Lada I once owned. It's name was Lada haha :)

Guff 01-12-2012 07:44 PM

Yeah, I'm gonna try to remember to call it Hachiroku, because I really like that, but I will probably end up calling it the BRZ(or FRS, depending on which one i get).

Max Schnell 01-12-2012 08:10 PM

That @$@#% Money Pit!

SVTSHC 01-12-2012 08:15 PM

My SVT's name is Francesca.

Francesca the Focus

SHINCHU86 01-12-2012 08:49 PM

my camaro's name is buckwheat lol

or LEROY when he's angry haha

oh and i put a ton of thought into the name of my FR-S.

you guys remember the story of the baby that was found 4 days after the japan quake/tsunami?
one of these days i will fiind out the little survivor's name, and that will be the name of my FR-S.

duffman13 01-12-2012 10:07 PM

86 probably.

Or hachiroku, but i don't want to sound too otaku-like

Actually, I'll probably call it AS1 just like i referred to my A4 as B5 and my RSX as DC5

nate89 01-12-2012 11:10 PM

I never name my cars or anything else for that matter. My freshman year of college my beta fish was named "Fish". Similarly, my truck was called "truck". (I fear for the day I have kids and have to name them lol)

However, girls always seem to name my vehicles for me.

My lowered green tacoma was named Franklin

I never let anyone name my cars after that, but oh how they tried...

HAHA "Come here Boy"...has a nice ring to it lol

ryude 01-13-2012 08:02 AM

It's like adopted children, you don't name them because they've already been named.

suprachica79 01-13-2012 09:11 AM

I named my Acura 2.2CL Ron because it was a burgandy sort of color and I was obsessed with Anchorman at the time

Camouflage 01-13-2012 10:04 AM

Well, my current Nissan Pixo ist just called Pixo.
I would name the 86 probably sometining like Achtundsechzig (German for Eighty Six) or Hachiroku:D
