4 problems. Worth taking to the dealer?

1. so I've had my engine idle dip for a while now and have read about it and have a fairly good idea of what is tolerable and what is not. I have had NOT had CEL yet but twice now i have stalled while idling. I drive a manual but i was not in gear either time. i think this goes beyond the "thats typical for this car"

2. MY fuel pump is just getting out of control now. it is so loud i cant stand it, and i know that subaru has the working fuel pump, has anyone been able to convince scion to replace their fuel pump with a subaru one, and if you were able to any pointers?

3. I really just noticed this today but my gas pedal is very loose laterally. If i really get on the gas I can feel it shift left and right, a few inches even.

4.Somewhere near the driver side tire i hear a squeak over speed bumps/potholes etc. any one else have this? If you are more technically savvy than I it would be much appreciated if you could point me in the direction of where the sound might be coming from because id hate the dealer to tell me they could not reproduce the sound.

If you have any feedback or suggestions id love to hear it.
Thanks!

Bring it in.

marky 04-01-2013 12:31 AM

yeah bring it to the dealer... but make sure you take a good look at your car first.. they might ding/scratch your car up and dont let them wash it.. as for pump mine got silent then came back and i have not got it replaced knowing it would just come back its off and on:iono:

wootwoot 04-01-2013 12:34 AM

I read that there is a new part number in the "engine chirping" thread.

Thanks. I went to bob baker lemon grove & it was a nightmare the whole way too. Ruined my first car-buying experience. A few members said carlsbad is good though.

1. Without a CEL...good luck on this one. See if your VIN is in the range of the ECM reprogramming bulletin (related to coolant)...maybe that could be a start

2. The Subaru fuel pump is the same as the Scion pump...even the tsb for this one just replaces the old pump with the same pump design that exhibits crickets

3. ***This is worth having checked out. Safety issue here.

4. This sound could be almost anything...bump stops, bushings, strut related components,...have a tech put it on the rack to try and find the cause

bdanisi 04-01-2013 07:37 AM

yea the gas pedal thing really scares me. could be like one of those million toyota recalls from 2 years ago lol

TeamZleep 04-01-2013 07:38 AM

I got the new pump installed last week. No chirping at all... For now.

It's actually a different pump this time around.

Wow lemon Grove too.. I ordered a one there but took long and found one in poway took it knowing it won't last long.. Then after 2 weeks of having mine. Lemon Grove called me and said my car was at the dealer :bonk:

yeah most dealers suck.. Im trying to call them for appointment to get my alarm done but I keep getting transferred/hold/answering machine then hung up. So heck with it.. They don't call back..they call me when I was at work and bugged me:bs:

The brake pedal specs say there should be 5mm or less play with 2 lbf. take it in.

1. Stalling isn't ok, the idle jumping around and shaking is ok apparently. Did you have the defroster/AC on? Might be worth taking in depending on the circumstances.
2. The fuel pumps are the same, there's just fewer BRZ's = fewer complaints from BRZ owners. Rumors are of a new fuel pump but no evidence, the noise will come back. Personally I don't care unless you can hear it over traffic (i.e. squeaky belt from the 20 year old minivan that scares the neighbors cats)
3. I guess it's a concern :iono: I would get down there and tinker with it myself and see if there's something loose that needs tightening before going to a dealer, but not everyone is into turning their own wrenches.
4. If it really concerns you go in, but it's a low end sports car, funny and annoying noises will happen. Personally I would go in my self instead of a dealer but again, not everybody is comfortable with that.

Just the 2 cents from someone who will avoid a dealer service at all costs.

As much as I hate to say it, bought my Viper remote start/security alarm from Best Buy and had them install it. I was quite amazed my the care and clean install they did. Of course that wont help you in CA, since the BB I am talking about is in MA. But just a thought.

jstn 04-01-2013 12:24 PM

Not sure why you really need to ask. The gas pedal thing alone would be enough for me. :/

bdanisi 04-01-2013 12:36 PM

Yea the gas pedal got way worse. Took it in today. It's pretty sad how little the service people know about our car. But I like posting because I usually learn something new.

frslee 04-01-2013 01:36 PM

I had the chirping sound around 1000 mile, but it's gone after I put lucas fuel system cleaner with upper cylinder lubricant. We'll see how long it takes for the crickets to come back.

SubieNate 04-01-2013 03:03 PM

I've heard that adding an ethanol fuel treatment to the tank kills the squeak as well. Something to do with the lower lubricity of the "Ethanol enhanced" fuels we have here in California.

What kind of issues have you had with the Poway dealership? That's where I bought mine and the salesman that I dealt with (Dan I believe) was pretty nice and quite informative from what I remember.

midnightfrolic 04-01-2013 11:38 PM
