Now that Winter is over...

How did everybody (no beaters!) do in the snow?
I'm assuming snow tires, so this is more of a handling question than a tire question. :P

Apoc 03-31-2013 11:16 PM

Winter may not be over yet in Calgary. I drove daily through the winter on Subaru steel wheels and continental extreme winter contacts. Car handles fine in nearly all conditions. Only time I was a bit concerned was when the snow as deeper than my front lip. I imagined the terror of having it sheared off by a block of ice.

Burrcold 03-31-2013 11:20 PM

Never missed a beat. Great car in the snow.

ScottishJedi 03-31-2013 11:56 PM

Ran mine all winter didn't even swap the tires out.
There were a few OMG moments but all and all no issues

Steve 04-01-2013 12:29 AM

probably will have had more fun in it during the winter than the summer, and felt calm and confident in it with snow tires during commutes in the couple big storms

yay for unlimited, guiltless (for tires sake) drifting during fresh snowfalls

Glad I don't live in Guelph. Enough people with all-seasons can't stop in time, never mind summers.

I'm surprised anybody would torture their summer tires by exposing them to cold temperatures for that period of time.

The Weather Network says it's going to get up to 22C here tomorrow... Can't wait! Not that the 20C today was that bad. :P

f0rge 04-01-2013 10:29 AM

I made it through the winter on stock rims with Hankook i-pike snow tires. I went too aggressive on the tire and they're straight up terrible in the dry, so much squirm and very little traction in aggressive driving, but they got me through the winter with no problems whatsoever.

Can't wait to get the summer rims/tires on. Thinking April 13th even though I'm pretty sure it's done snowing.

Myv 04-01-2013 11:38 AM

More snow today in GTA! Probably won't be much of a build-up though, just flurries :)

mrdanyo 04-01-2013 08:00 PM

Hardly any. Saw a BRZ on the way home from work just now. Man, I gotta resist the temptation until I save up enough money! Haha.

wparsons 04-01-2013 08:43 PM

Still waiting on my wheels to be done at the powdercoater, and then warm enough weather consistently for the summers. Can't wait at all, done with snow tires :D

SupraRon 04-01-2013 10:29 PM

Winter was great. Have General Arctic Altimax on stock rims. Keeping them on until its consistently above 7*C. This time of year is way too unpredictable.

Word 04-02-2013 09:05 PM

Winter may be over, but...

Winter is Coming.

x-ice 3s for me on steelies, drove through the two major snow storms we had in TO this year, first one I went out in the morning no issues on the road cutting through accumulation until I got to the parking lot, couldn't get my car into a spot cuz the pile ups were too high and I didn't feel like turning my front lip into a snow plow.. at least I never got stuck?

Otherwise with the thin layer of snow on the ground, most fun I've ever had :)

I totally agree have these and love but the only drawback is they are louder then the FR-S with Hankooks but definitely better

Should I change to summer tires myself or spend the $40?

Really? I didn't find them to be that loud.. even on the 407 at high speeds they were ok

$40 is expensive for changing tires already mounted. Smaller shops should be doing it for $20 to $25 cash but I'll suggest you do it yourself, it builds character lol

Thanks, with the stock summer tires. Does it matter where I put it? Or are they all interchangeable...

Winter? Over? Please tell the weather man... He's calling for 15cm of snow here on Thursday and another 10cm on Friday. This car has been great through LOTS of snow this year. I was running Bridgestone Blizzak WS-60s (205/55/16) on steelies. If the weather forcast sticks, I'll be up in the garage tomorrow night to put them back on.

Juurian 04-09-2013 08:42 PM

my car is still parked in the garage and i got it only a week ago =/ i have installed all my aftermarket parts and im bored of looking at my car doing nothing lol. fucking winnipeg!

If you're asking about the rotation the manual suggests a rearward cross

i.e. the rear wheels go straight to the front wheels, and the front wheels cross to the opposite side when moving to the back

see this link for the RWD/AWD cars under diagram A:

I'm tempted to ask a garage to swap my summers on tomorrow and see if they'll try and stop me, considering the forecast, or if they'll just take my $20 and run.

Kelbyat07 04-10-2013 12:17 AM

Mine drove pretty well in the Chicago snow. If you put bags on sand in your trunk, you should be fine.

FRSGIRL❤ 04-10-2013 12:31 AM

we are expecting snow over the next couple days.. booo:(

Been there, done that. Moved from there in 1996 (never been a snow/cold person) and headed to Kelowna, BC. Don't regret it at all. Was 21C here like a week or so back. :)

My poor parents and pretty much everybody else I know is still stuck out there... Oh well, at least you got the Jets. :P

ArKiTeCkT 04-11-2013 10:01 AM

Im so tired of this snow.....

Can everyone idle their car so we can create global warming and never have to see snow ever again??:happyanim:

Made it though winter great...oh wait it's not over yet apparently. 5-10cm on Friday and another 5 on Tuesday, stupid me took the extreme winter contacts off already. Great winter car heated seats are amazing and with 100lbs in the back I was plowing snow almost as high as the mustache.

wparsons 04-11-2013 01:05 PM

Don't feel too bad, we got a couple cm this morning in Toronto. SOOOO glad my summer wheels weren't ready last weekend, the drive to work would've been REALLY dicey on dunlop Z2's!

Enough already mother nature, bring on the 15+!
