Cracked Rim

2 Attachment(s)
Wells i just wanted to share this with you guys

I was on my way to Los Angeles to meet up with some friends, and as i cruised down the 60 state highway i noticed a huge object that looked like a massive rock or something similar. i tried avoiding it by moving left, but a car honked its horn and ended up hitting it with my front right tire. my car literally flew off the ground and as soon as i tried getting off the highway the car aggressively limped to the right of the road

It sucks that the rim cracked, but the hit was not soft at all and im really thankful that none of the drive train, bumper and engine got damaged.

Ps: another sad thing is that a few frs owners passed by me like it was nothing ! where is the love ? :mad0260:

suaveflooder 03-31-2013 02:26 AM

Sucks! I would have stopped  Always willing to help out

Sorry to hear about your cracked rim. Is it possible to repair?

Look at the pic again...that wheel is done

OP: You might want to get your alignment checked out. An impact like that is bound to do something.

continuecrushing 03-31-2013 04:57 AM

JDMenrique 03-31-2013 08:35 AM

surprised no one has mentioned anything about a curse...

FirestormFRS 03-31-2013 08:46 AM

You're gonna have some bent stuff in the suspension to bud. The car is built light, if the wheel cracked I'd be 90% sure you damaged the strut and maybe some other stuff.

TommyFive 03-31-2013 10:53 AM

You may want to contact your insurance company - this may be covered by the DOT.

Good point. In CA, if your vehicle is damaged while using the freeway (due to a pothole, raised expansion joint, etc.) you can file a claim with Caltrans and they will reimburse you for the damages. Here is the form:

Form LD0274

Does that cover random debris in the road?

It's worth a shot..it is their duty (along with the CHP) to maintain the safety of the freeways, so large debris in the road is a failure on their part to keep the roadways safe...

This claim form with Caltrans isn't through your insurance. This reimbursement is through the state.

Wes 03-31-2013 04:40 PM

Oh dam! that sucks, hope you can get it fixed, if I saw you going off the road I would've surely helped you out

Take it to a mechanic you trust. If you don't have one then take it to an alignment shop they should be able to tell you straight away if anything is bent.

Increased insurance is only when damage to a person/thing is your fault. It is covered by your comprehensive insurance. Youll just have to pay a deductible.

chulooz 03-31-2013 06:40 PM

This is an instance where the people running Rotas would just shrug it off, while high end rims on the street would make the situation devastating. IB4pricywheelswontbreak

Dont be foolish, keep insurance out of it.

n2oinferno 03-31-2013 06:55 PM

Just to be on the safe side I'd have the suspension checked out. Breaking a wheel is no small feat.

Juurian 03-31-2013 10:28 PM

with honda's if you have comprehensive warranty, and something like this occurred you would be 100% covered rim and tire. Did you pick up any kind of extra / factory warranty?

technically that huge rock is not to be on the road therefore it is claimable by warranty.

I think my girlfriend passed you as well. But not in her FRS. She was on her way from Ontario airport goon towards hacienda heights with her family. She was tellin me about it last night and wanted her dad to pull over for love of the twins, but he wouldn't.

She said the dude may have been waring a beanie and long shorts.

she blew a tire the 2nd week of June with less than 2k miles on the car after hitting a pot hole. Tire cost like 300 because nobody but Toyota could get them quickly.

Kelbyat07 04-01-2013 03:43 AM

That's the reason why I hate driving on the highway. Good luck and hopefully everything works out the way you want it to be.

Does that work with the entire car? The sharkfin on top of my CR-Z somehow broke (noticed it loose when I was washing the car one day, and pulled it right off). Dealer refused to warranty it because "it's not Honda's fault that it broke." I would think that a cracked rim from road debris would fall under the same judgement.
I ended up basically gluing it down with clear window sealant/gasket. Worked like a charm.

BRZerk 04-01-2013 10:33 AM

check into your warranty. i believe SoA has road hazard coverage for the oem wheels on our cars
