LED "Off road" lights
1 Attachment(s)
The other day, my brother went a little crazy and got an off road skid plate and some LED bars for his STI, they are largely for show, but they do look pretty cool. It got me thinking, about what an FRS would look like with something similar. I was thinking either have a bar just inside the of the grill, or a couple of, for lack of a better term, fog lights.
I know one member has already done this with some fogs behind the grill and i thought it was pretty cool, what does every body think? THE BAR THE FOGS |
No :(

If you need a bar made contact Rally Innovations. I have their skid guard on my Impreza and would love to see what that would look like on an 86.

I definitely want one of these bars behind the grill. I know it's over kill but that looks pretty cool.
|
love the bull bar on the sti..
but not on a frs. maybe out of sight behind the grill tho |
I'm working on something similar. Pavement is for wusses. Real men hoon about on dirt. :P
|
Real men also wipe their asses with sand paper.

I had lights behind my grill before I put in the oil cooler. Got tons of compliments, and I love the extra light when driving the canyons at night. I plan on having a small bull bar made to put either my day lighters or an LED bar on it.
And yes, I rallied it before this picture. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/pictu...pictureid=3479 |

@mikeg7827 They are KC daylighters

all of you city folks proly dont like that look at all, but in my opinion out here in the sticks where there is lots of dirt roads, i have been looking to add a bar behind the grill like a 10 or a 20" LED bar and then two temp LED lights on top mounted either by magnet or suction cups. The look would be a good one at night especially. Looking like an amount of close to 800 by the time its all said and done

What ever you do, just make sure it's quality.

Did someone say the FR-S/BRZ is not a rally car? These guys beg to differ:

I'm gonna disagree. The bar I had on my WRX was junk. |

sent from my locker... help! |
I do a lot of night driving on the back roads around here, and more light would be really nice. I pretty much have to drive around deer out here, so anything to make their eyes light up sooner and brighter would be the way to go.
|
I installed a couple of rigid e-series lights behind my grill, I think it came out good. http://i.imgur.com/T9cC1Js.jpg
They work well in the mountains at night! |
I'm planning on a bar going behind my grill since 90% of my driving is deer-infested back country roads at night.
I keep eyeing this bar in orange to go back there on my Hot Lava: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/off...l#.UuuKoftpr7E I'm coming from the off road world and run multiple LED bars on my Toyota, so I know their value on the back roads. This isn't about looks or aesthetics (though I might as well color-match if I can), it's about not hitting a deer at 60mph if I can stop well in advance. |
How did you mount them, i am looking at some rigids as well. if you can get a couple of pics that would help me out.

You just gave me a great idea. Make LEDs to spell "FUCK OFF" in the grill of the car, and wire them up to a switch. If someone cuts me off, switch them on. Not sure if there is enough room though.

Ridgid industries is king. Use them on everything I own that has wheels...well except the frs. Turbo kit cleaned out my wallet. Soon thought!

Rigid makes some good lights and I run two of their bars and some Duallys as well, but honestly Baja Designs makes a higher quality bar with better output and better color for the same money. Now that I've tried them out, I won't be going back to Rigid. Rigid is still the most popular choice with the most options and the most advertising.

I ran a lot of lights on my Jeep for off roading, and I think LED bars are great. However, for this application they are not so great for a few reasons.
LEDs really shine (no pun intended) at closer ranges. Even in the offroad community people still use HID retrofits for long range. These cars aren't going to be doing 5-40mph on dirt roads. We are doing 50.. 60.. + on pavement and at those speeds you are outrunning the LED lighting. This is a doubly whammy because not only are you outrunning the light they produce, but they produce so much of it that your eyes are being drawn to the foreground that they light up so well instead of far away, where you should be looking when you are driving at higher speeds (like 50+). Sure, they look brighter, but for road applications they are essentially a waste of money. Just my $.02 |

honestly, i consider rigid to be the ricer wings and fart cans of the offroad world... too many people buy because of the name, and don't really care about the quality of the product. i've been researching led light bars for quite a while and at the level that rigid is at, you can save a lot of money buying a no-name chinese bar and get the same performance/quality level.. the chinese bars use the same 6000k led's that rigid uses, and very similar enclosure and reflector designs, as well as thermal throttling that pretty much every brand has. the only major difference is that rigid claims to be assembled in the US and costs more.. the last major issue i heard about, rigid had consistent issues with water retention that was turning many bars into fishbowls... they seem to have fixed that issue, but it took a long time for them to finally admit that it was their fault and to start replacing bars.. problem is, if you do buy chinese instead of rigid, then you don't get to flaunt the name in front of all your offroad buddies, and it's not worth +5hp like the rigid's... |

i know its not off road lights, but i think something like the ford raptors 3 leds in the grill would look halfway decent
|
I wonder if you could take the tacoma grill and use it cause it looks like the same size and shape
