For me, what others think is irrelevant.

What I think is what's important, and I think it's a brilliant car to drive. I've owned some amazing cars in my 42 years of driving including big names like Jaguars, 7-series BMWs, and Subarus, but my GT86 is the one I enjoy driving the most.

I've just got home from a 50km burn through the beautiful mountains near my home, and I have a seriously warm and furry feeling right now, so I couldn't give a s**t whether we won an award or not. I award my 86 a gold star, and that's all that matters!! :D:D:D

I really wonder why it lost to the Golf. The Golf is a damn good car, but when it comes to performance it is kind of outclassed by most other hot hatches.

Seriously though. I have heard that the newest Golf is pretty amazing. And the new Cayman is just simply amazing. Not bad company at all and it's cheaper than both of them. If you want RWD it's a no brainer.

if there are any cars to lose to, the Cayman is it. anybody that cares about sports car should drive a Cayman once.

I can understand the Cayman from which the car's engineering roots are partially based, but a Golf?

Comparing a Golf with the twins is like comparing apples and oranges. The Cayman is twice the price.

I saw a new Boxster today. First time I saw a new one. Looked really nice.

Agreed, the Golf (and technically the A3) is a great everyman's car, but it's hard to compare directly to the 86.

I sold my '10 Golf TDi to get the FR-S, and believe me, the Golf is a great car, in many ways a better choice for me than the FR-S. But, it wasn't nearly as much fun to drive, didn't have the "bling" value, and left me a bit cold. It did get 45MGG on the road though, and that makes up for a lot of faults. The main reason I got rid of it was the fear something would go wrong with the electrics, and it would start nickel and diming me to death. Anyway, life is too short to drive boring cars, and I'll probably trade the FR-S for something else after a few years. YMMV,

top three in World performance car of the year;
and a finalist in the World car design of the year.
That's pretty freaking awesome.

Me too :-). It was a good car, I put 96k miles on it and all of my repairs totaled about $300.

I had a Jetta Diesel that I loved to drive it, one of the most well balanced FWD cars out there, nice low end grunt without the horsepower to plow into understeer around turns. Better than an AWD Subaru in the snow too.

But as far as cost of ownership. That's still very much up in the air for the twins. Being a true Japanese car at low sails volume with a completely unique chassis makes me think parts costs might be considerably higher than something like a Miata.

The twins remind me so much of a low volume BMW in the engineering that I am afraid the parts costs may be significant.

The parts cost thing and the brand new boxer worry me the most about my FR-S, I hope to keep it 20 years.

Comming from a 13 Golf R and 13 BRZ owner... I call BS on the Golf winning LMAOOOOOOOO. The R is fantastic its many ways, but it is no BRZ or FRS contender in any aspect than acceleration, and possibly breaking power.

I have a german car (Audi) and Maintenance is expensive enough. I couldnt imagine the cost of maintaing a porsche. To each his own

Porsche Cayman S? Mundane car? Really?

Until recently, I was certain I was going to buy a used Cayman S as my next car. I've driven a 2006 CS with PASM and Sport Chrono, and it is an amazing car. What ultimately stopped me was the cost of engine rebuilds. They are known for having engine issues, and if I assembled it myself, a rebuild would still cost about $18,000.

But then the BRZ came along. I thought it was an attractive car, and I had been researching Subaru parts costs, and they are incredibly low. Once I had a chance to drive one, I was sold. That being said, if I could afford a new Cayman S, don't think for a minute I wouldn't buy one. Every review I've read or watched has said it's even better than the last one. It is no shame that the BRZ/FRS came in second to that in the performance car category.

Most Porsche maintenance and repair costs are in labor and insane dealer parts markup (though with low volume, they do need to turn a profit). If you can do the work yourself, and buy genuine Porsche parts from an online wholsale dealer, they're actually not that bad as far as German cars go. Maintaining a BMW 335i would be more expensive, based on my research. The only exception are engines and transmissions. Porsche factory prices are astronomical for those.

Well I think I'm hot and sexy, but that doesn't make it true. LoL. Well, technically only half true, but only becuase it can get up to 105 degress here in Texas.
