Someone tried to steal my FR-S today

Well I got home from working out of town today to find my driver side window busted out and the plastic cover around the ignition tumbler busted up. It's at the dealer now waiting on a new window to come in. I was informed by one of the sales reps that anyone in or around the Florida area have been getting hit pretty hard with frs thefts (not sure how true this is). Here are a few pics I took before it was moved to the dealer luckily the forensics team was able to lift prints.

nice shoe print they left behind for me. Guess they were not planning on the door still not opening from the inside after the glass was broken out.

Lonewolf 03-27-2013 09:46 PM

I'm sorry to hear it.

Tint and an alarm will help deter this crap in the future.

Before others say it, yes, if a good thief really wants the car, they will get it.

Vanga 03-27-2013 09:48 PM

Oooh, thats scary

HighbreadEH3 03-27-2013 10:01 PM

Sorry to hear the bad news, thieves suck! I have had multiple theft attempts on my civic and my alarm helped deter the attempts. I highly recommend getting a Viper alarm, I have the Viper 5904V on my FRS and gives me a peace of mind when its out of the garage.

dem00n 03-27-2013 10:03 PM

Sorry to hear, that sucks.

When i bought my FRS in July of last year they told me one of the reasons the insurance was so high because the car was being stolen so fast. I think around 7 were stolen at that time.

civicdrivr 03-27-2013 10:09 PM

Thats insane. I hate thieves. Someone trying stealing my first car (Civic) within the first 48 hours of ownership. Apparently they didnt notice that the steering wheel was missing until they had already shattered the driver side window. My sisters Civic was stolen from the same spot too.

And Im surprised the cops were that proactive with bringing the forensics unit out for prints, not that anything will come of it. I'm sorry to be a pessimist, but cops typically don't give two shits about car thefts - at least from prior experience.

ML 03-27-2013 10:10 PM

I just switch to the immobilizer map on my Unichip when I'm in a bad area or its going to sit somewhere.

njccmd2002 03-27-2013 10:53 PM

FriedRicr 03-27-2013 10:56 PM

When I caught some thieves trying to steal my WRX in Nassau County, LI the cops who stopped (they were a block away and came over to see what was going on) called a forensic team. They got there in under 5 minutes and printed the car. Thieves were wearing gloves, though.

mact 03-27-2013 11:12 PM

I hope the thief is found and gets owned.

cgrey 03-27-2013 11:13 PM

I was afraid this might happen but, why would anyone steal an FR-S?

They don't have a lot of aftermarket parts in them, yet anyway. There's not enough of them for the parts to be worth anything to auto shops. Joy rides?

EK_Golfer 03-27-2013 11:44 PM

I thought the FR-S and BRZ are equipped with engine immobilizers if the key is not present inside the car?

SportInjected 03-27-2013 11:54 PM

It's crazy how they thought they could drive away a car with an immobilizer system. Your car fared better than my last two civics (both stolen, 8 month apart, nothing ever recovered), but honda's are notorious for getting jacked. I just hate these low-lives who try to take the easy way in life by taking other people's property.

g0lden 03-28-2013 12:00 AM

Don't these theives know you can't hot wire these cars....Idiots!
That just pisses me off.

scary alien 03-28-2013 12:07 AM

Sorry those dirt bags tried to steal your ride, NomoreNA, but glad you still have it.

Wes 03-28-2013 12:07 AM

Wow, if I ever saw someone trying to steal my car I would finish them like a cheese cake!

But I'd be pissed, but whatever comes around goes around

imravenit 03-28-2013 12:10 AM

i installed a viper alarm.. which is when the car door is open, window busted, car tilted, car wobble etc.. anything you can think of.. the car will not actually alarm but itll send a text message on my iphone.. i can also see a live update of my car on the MAPS app of the iphone to see where its location.. i think its a great investment.. i paid about $700 installed..

axelo 03-28-2013 12:14 AM

sorry ... you.ll see karma is a major beatch

Purdue FR-S 03-28-2013 12:23 AM

:(

Sorry to hear that.

My '00 Civic Si had an immobilizer. That didn't stop them from taking it and torching it just a few miles away.

Immobilizers are not 100% theft proof.

TouchMyHonda 03-28-2013 12:53 AM

Wtf would even be the point to stealing this car? Parts are not in a high demand.

Timmy_Jones 03-28-2013 01:06 AM

Where do you unfortunate folks live!? Come to Maine, everyone is friendly. None of this crap. My door is always unlocked (house and car), come in if you need anything.

ikaruga 03-28-2013 01:10 AM

Sorry to hear man. Back in college, one year, my car was broken into everytime midterms came along. It's one of the worst feelings when you approach your car and notice something wrong.

Mandy 03-28-2013 01:20 AM

My motorcycle was stolen once, I remember the thought that I must have parked it somewhere else and forgot, and then my heart sinking into the ground, it sucks.

I was lucky and didn't get gas, and it wound up on the side of the road 2 counties over, albeit in terrible condition.

I got the GPS tracking for my FR-S; never bothered with alarms because I find that most people ignore them anyway, thought it's definitely a deterrent. Good luck with the repairs, looks like it's nothing too severe.

i have garage, garage is an awesome theft deterrent...

Rampage 03-28-2013 01:40 AM

Sad to see the damage. Glad it is not worse.

Speedy000 03-28-2013 02:29 AM

worse part of them smashing windows is the replacement is never 100% the same. i remember my tc the driver window would not go down at the same exact time as the passenger and it bothered the hell out of me and they tried fixing it twice. :(

That's surprising, as my car was broken into in Nassau County as well. The cops came but refused to write a report. They said fingerprinting would be "worthless".

I was fuming. I'm glad I got out of that hell hole though.

After my car was broken into on campus a few years ago, I made the decision to get a kill switch install on the car.

Cheddar 03-28-2013 08:11 AM

Sorry to hear. But unless they show up with another ECM with matching keys, that car isnt going anywhere.

The days of hot wiring cars are over.

MVJ1975 03-28-2013 08:48 AM

Aww, man, that sucks. Hopefully he'll get hit by the Karma Bus.

NomoreNA 03-28-2013 09:22 AM

Thanks for the comments, concerns and advice. I ordered a Viper smartstart system last friday, but unfortunately it was not here in time for me to install it prior to this event. I wouldn't say we live in a bad part of town just a crowded area with three college campus's near by. Not many of the apartments around this area offer detached garages and those who do are on a 2+ year waiting list. Thankfully I am done with college and my wife is finishing up her intern so once our lease is up in 3 months we can buy a house and "hopefully" not have to worry about things like this happening. I get the new window installed this afternoon so I will follow up with how well the replacement works.
