sound tube plug?

I tried to search this but couldn't find the right thread. perhaps I didn't search the right words. But anyways, can someone throw me some advice on how to plug up the sound tube so I don't have it routed into the car? Kinda don't want it now with the exhaust screaming at me.

Search the DIY section. Here is a link to my write up.

I just added an alternative way to 'plug' it in that DIY.. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...784#post820784

Perrin CAI with Silicon Inlet. Easy, awesome looking/sounding way to gain some whp and great sound!

I should've clarified.. What I posted was for people just looking for a easy & 'cheap' way of plugging the sound tube.. I don't think people want to spend too much to simply plug a hole.. Even dynosty's $30 kit is a little steep (compared to a $3 plug) if you only need ONE plug.

I just went full on ghetto and used one of those foam ear plugs:

Squish it up, shove it in the hole and let it expand:

Bought a plastic plug from Home Depot yesterday for $1.71. Fits like it was made for it ^_^

Follow the sound tube from the front to the back where it meets the firewall and pull it out. It's nothing more than a rubber tube that fits in the metal firewall. If you don't care, just let the end that you pull out dangle there. It won't go anywhere. Then use any kind of a plug to put in the hole in the firewall. If you want to "clean it up" completely removed the sound tube in total and put in a larger plug where it first starts out.

I don't think just putting an ear plug in from the cabin side will totally eliminate the excess sound. It will help reduce it but not eliminate it. I would remove the tube from the hole in the firewall.

Finished the whole deal in like 15 minutes and 5 bucks later. Intake tube plugged and firewall plugged. Soooo much better

Used the Perrin Inlet tube to get rid of mine. 100% happy with the results and it is quieter and I wound up with a few more ponies in the process.

There are several sound tube threads on here, but this is the simplest and quickest and more effective. Plus it is completely reversible

The Home Depot plug for $.60 works perfect.

forzajuve 04-15-2013 03:23 AM

Which size is that?

forzajuve 04-15-2013 03:23 AM

Which size and what does it look like?

I got a rubber plug that fits into the tubular metal of a chair or table leg. 22mm internal diameter. Came in a pack of 4 but of course only needed 1.

FR-S Matt 04-15-2013 09:44 AM

I'm going to get that Home Depot plug. I just left the hole open in the firewall after I removed the sound tube. Might as well plug it up for under a buck. Thanks for the info!

Just an update to let people know of current options: I used a 1/2" 'endcap' from the plumbing section of Lowe's and it fits perfectly. $0.28 + tax

It's made of off-white plastic but gets covered up by the carpet anyway so nbd

Just to let you guys know... I plugged the hole with a tampon.

I just had to trim it down a bit. Regular size.

The string is great for removing the plug as well. haha

Car sounds much better, IMO.

Old thread is old... It was found the plug for the power outlet in the glove compartment is the perfect size and free as everyone has one.

brz3686 12-21-2014 09:21 PM

I don't have a power outlet in the glove compartment apparently.
