Shunned if you do shunned if you don't...

Any other FR-S guys get this? Get shit from "scion" guys for owning a mostly Subaru car. And also get shit from "Subaru" people for the car having a scion badge. I just don't get it. It's a scion, But mostly Subaru. I would have bought a BRZ to have the Subaru badges, but honestly don't like the extras and I like the FR-S front fascia better. So I bought the scion. As far as I am concerned its still Subaru anyways. The manufacturer placard does say Fuji heavy industries. That's all I need.

civicdrivr 03-26-2013 10:37 PM

I try not to associate with those types. I prefer hanging out with those that like cars in general, not for what the badge says.

My point exactly.

Travis 03-26-2013 10:39 PM

No one has ever given me a problem. I would probably just laugh at them if they tried

raphy 03-26-2013 10:39 PM

people will always hate. if you like it then forget them.

dem00n 03-26-2013 10:41 PM

People will always complain, you can't do anything about it but choose who you will listen to.

shawnperolis 03-26-2013 10:43 PM

Never thought about that once, too busy smiling and driving it.

LeeMaster 03-26-2013 10:43 PM

Dont pay attention to what anyone says on the internet.

Hardrock4445 03-26-2013 10:44 PM

Doesn't bother me one bit. I just find it funny that we can be that nit picky as car people. What happened to its an awesome ride if it looks cool and/or goes fast

Lonewolf 03-26-2013 10:45 PM

Life is good when you don't care too much about what others think...

When I was young, I hated going out in sandals or in a shirt with a tear or hole, now I'm
like "Bitch, what are you looking at, I'm fabulous..." :bellyroll:

CircuitJerk 03-26-2013 10:49 PM

OP, You must be referring to online interaction? Mostly?

Batman 03-26-2013 10:49 PM

I put Ferrari magnets on mine, replaced the scion emblems with bat symbols, and raked in the compliments from people who know no better lol

Now, I have toyota emblems, scion steering wheel, and a subaru brass knuckle sticker. So everyone just has nothing to point out

This is how I live my life! Couldn't agree more! lol at my fashion sense. I just don't care....I wear what's comfortable.

People like fast cars because it's unobtainable to modern day standards of society, they are unpractical, dangerous and fun. That's what people want.

If they see a car they think is fast, then they will be curious about it. They wanna ask you questions even though they don't really know what fast is.

Our cars per say are more so about handling and oversteer instead of sheer speed.

The beauty of oversteer is that those who know about it, mostly indulge in it and prefer it. Oversteer is fun, but yet again only us car guys will care about it.

Those who tend to insult other cars don't really know about the subject of those cars, a lot of the people on this forum dislike FWD cars but in fact FWD cars can be a lot of fun as well and most people won't drive a proper FWD car on the track.

russv 03-26-2013 11:57 PM

Most give me a thumbs up, but it seems like the STI and WRX crowd merely give you a grudging nod like "Yeah its a Subaru but not like ours". Never gotten a negative attitude from anyone.

bcj 03-27-2013 12:30 AM

Never had that sort of interaction yet.
The in joke about the SV650 motorcycle is that it's a "girls bike".
It's not a fast bike, but it's lightweight, narrow and shreds up the corners with the best of them.

Half the price of a literbike and you can mod the heck out of it.
It's an 90deg twin with a very wide powerband. Where have I seen that lately? I'm good with that.

For a second I thought the manufacturer placard said:
Fujiwara Tofu Industries
:happyanim:
..but yeah bro. Don't let $hit like that get you down. As long as you have your FR-S, and your good health. Live the dream!

I personally think that the frs is a beast, not in the horsepower side of it but in the all around car view point. i drove a 350z modded almost 330 whp yes it was very fast, beat alot of people because it was so fast, but in the all around view in my opinion doesnt compare. just my 2cents but i havent drove my Z for about a month now :burnrubber:

Just ignore all that.
Would you call the Toyota 2000GT a Yamaha? It was built by Yamaha.
And you can point out to all these people that I bet most of their tools are Made in China, even if they're name brand.

SilentAngel 03-27-2013 02:47 AM

Never had any issue with people, just curious looks from dealer workers sometimes when I take it in for service, Cuz I put Subaru emblems on mine. Only got asked once "is it a Subaru or a scion?" lol.

dnL 03-27-2013 02:49 AM

nope

m.box.design 03-27-2013 02:57 AM

die hard subaru fans will say that this car is a subaru, yet subaru as a company, wouldn't have made this car, nor any car that resembled it. it's not even in their styling spectrum.
of course toyota spearheaded the idea, but they didn't have the resources to build it on their own. thus they left it to subaru to build it from their parts bin.
this car is equally a toyota as it is a subaru. it wouldn't be what it is today without one or the other company.

I agree. My wife and I have both owned Subarus for the past 10 years, so it was quickly apparant that so much of our 86 is out-and-out Subaru. But, equally so, so much isn't - and which parts are and which parts aren't is easy for a Subaru owner to distinguish.

"Some say"... that they forgot to include the most important Subaru part - the turbo. I disagree. I own a turbo Scooby, so I've been there and done that. I love the "bang" of forced induction, but I also love the purity of the N/A boxer motor in the 86.

KritiK 03-27-2013 07:05 AM

Haters gonna hate always, just don't listen to em

Prava 03-27-2013 07:14 AM

Its a COLLABORATION. At the end of the day, who really gives a shit?!

Cheddar 03-27-2013 09:26 AM

Just let them know that technically they all own a toyota because toyota owns a big chunk of them lol

QFMFT. Period.

neutron256 03-27-2013 09:29 AM

Locally I've found the Scion folks to be very welcoming even though my car has Subaru badges. The diehard Subaru guys I cannot say the same for. They certainly want to check out the car, but then just keep bringing up that its not AWD, doesn't have a turbo. I can say they haven't exactly welcomed the BRZ into the family with open arms.

gily25 03-27-2013 10:49 AM

The car is a unique combination...the people who choose to own it, imho are bold characters who don't put up with lip from fan boys...we have plenty of threads here about jerks who put our car down but I can't recall one of one 86/BRZ/FR-S owner saying another put them down. *2 cents*

tennisfreak 03-27-2013 10:58 AM

I dont give a rats a$$ what people think about the car.

Actually once I get my FR-S I dont plan on advertising for Toyota,Scion, or Subaru. I will strip every single badge off the thing and put on something custom. (well I might keep the 86 badges on the side and put one on the rear, but at least those dont have an auto maker emblem on them).

norsamerican 03-27-2013 11:03 AM

Nope, I dont hang around men with vaginas that cry about such trivial things.

I don't know if you've checked out the Gensis Coupe forums, but apparently we're all idiots for buying such an underpowered car and that if you adjust the camber bolts of the "GC" it will handle better than the Toyobaru. They basically think any review that favors our car was "paid for" by Toyota. It's just how it is. We're going to get shit on either way because of pure jealousy.

Deadspool 03-27-2013 11:12 AM

Dont have that problem here.

Every time I pull into a parking lot I have to hand out Kleenex. Blowin their wads all over the damn place.

naikaidriver 03-27-2013 11:13 AM

Anytime someone attempts to give me any crap about whatever badge is on my car, I tell them to "grow up" and walk off to find someone more intelligent to talk to.

Scott

UnOvertime 03-27-2013 11:16 AM

Tell them when they help you pay the $25k+ for the car then they can have a real opinion. When people ask why did you get an auto or why did you do this, I always look at the registration and I point out it doesn't have their name on it.

SloS13 03-27-2013 11:22 AM

Your first mistake was hanging out with "Scion" folks. Not bashing the FR-S, but tC owners probably have the worst community ever -- barring maybe the SRT-4.

This just tells me that you havent really hung out with many tC folks. Just like with the twins, there are segments of the crowd that give the rest of the group a bad name. Most of the tC crowd I hung out with were good people that didn't go crazy with their fanatacism.

You are mostly right with the Skittle groups, though. Everything was straight line speed with them, nothing could beat the rainbow.
