The Best 17x9 Wheel

I'm going with a 17x9" wheel and have narrowed it down to a few good ones in a decent price range. This is a optimal size while keeping the wheel light and being able to run a good sized tire or tyre.

EDIT: (Application) I'm looking for 1 set of wheels, other than my stockers for winter. This means I will be getting these wheels for daily driving, road trips, track use, car shows, etc. The best of all worlds. Also looking to spend less than $2K!

Please vote on which ones you think are the best for your money!

by weight and price the RPF1 are a hard deal to beat.

GTM_Challenge 03-26-2013 03:15 PM

For track use, the RPF1 is our go to. That being said, Enkei is sold out of them in a 17x9 for a few months yet, so we went with 57DRs for now.

D1cker 03-26-2013 03:30 PM

Dollar vs Performance the RPF1 is King.

The best wheel though is going to be a TE37 SL in 17x9. (or the RT in 17x9.5)

Edit: FYI I own both the RPF1 and TC105N in 17x9.

shu5892001 03-26-2013 03:39 PM

VOLK CE28 17x9 is also good, real version of the DPT

JoeBoxer 03-26-2013 04:02 PM

Rota Titan and OZ Formula HLT are worth a look too.

RPF1 are a great deal for track use, very light and inexpensive!

I'm looking to spend under 2k, but I know the TE37s are epic! If I come across a good deal on some used ones that would be awesome. Thanks for the input!

The CE28n are awesome, but very expensive! I would definitely get them if the price was right.

How much do the titans weigh?

I really like the look of the OZ formula but if I recall they are over 21lbs!

Thanks

I love the concave look, is that a +35 or +38? Or are those the same look with different hub width.

stilletto 03-26-2013 05:39 PM

Works. Hands Down. ..though I'd suggest 18x9.5

Titans are around 18 pounds i believe

57DR's are not light, my 18's weren't anyways.

GT86drifter 03-26-2013 05:47 PM

advan tc2 its 17x8.5 but close enough

norsamerican 03-26-2013 05:52 PM

This is tough all based on personal preference and what the context of "Best" refers to. I personally like Avant Garde. I ordered a set in 18s but if i were to get 17s. I voted "Other" and would get their M220 set in 17s.

The +35 and +38 have the same face, just more pad material on the back for the +35

coyote 03-26-2013 07:03 PM

The thing I really get from those pictures is how much better the >40mm offset wheels look than the wheels with offsets <40mm.

All are nice wheels, but one group looks like they were chosen for the car ... (to me) the other looks like someone made do with the wrong size.

Off the car, the Weds are my favourite out of that bunch ... but the +35 offset is a fail.

Foobar 03-26-2013 08:11 PM

Regarding offset fail, I think camber has some input on how well it looks as well.

Also, do you think the fail is on the fronts or both front and rear?

How is it a fail? They fill the fenders perfectly and dont rub even under extreme use (I've hit 1.5 G+ with mine and no issue)

Captain Insano 03-26-2013 10:49 PM

Exactly. The +35 fits perfect and leaves lotso room for brake upgrades. I think that's win/win (form/function).

Spartan65 03-26-2013 10:57 PM

I still like the Rota Grid http://www.wheeldude.com/catalog/img..._1-of-1_-7.jpg

+35 is pretty much perfect

I really like the Works, the +38 offset is prime with the concave look. They are a little heavy though around 20lbs..

The Titans look great the the BRZ, and pretty cheap at just over $200 a piece

I'm planning on running a 245/40 tire so a 17x8.5 is still good, might actually be more square on the wheel depending on the tire brand.

I think it depends on the suspension setup your running. Plus the tire size and width... A +42 wheel will poke out a little on stock suspension, but a +35 can be nicely tucked in the fender with some negative camber, springs, coilovers, etc.

I'm planning on running Koni struts with good springs so a +35 is the lowest I would go based on my suspension plans.

Does anyone know where I can get ANY of the wheels in the poll (except rota)? I want to order ASAP, but can only find 17x9 +45. Would go ahead and get them if I'm assured I won't have issues on stock struts, but would rather have more available options too.

@Evasive Motorsports carries both the weds and rpf1's. They gave me a pretty good price on the weds just give them a call.

I believe @JoeBoxer carries the rpf1's as well.

I've been having trouble getting the rpf1's in +35, i think they have black but not silver or gold i'd have to check.

I'm really liking the TC105N in gunmetal, I think that would look best on the SWP BRZ- I can't find any in 17x9 though.

These are in 18x8.5 just for color ref:http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8369/8...36f2d36b_b.jpg
