What were your first mods?

Hitting 1k miles in the car, thinking of a few inexpensive mods but was wondering what you guys chose first.

Planned:
opti coat

Theoretically next:
K&N drop in
6.5 speakers replace the stock (suggestions wanted)

Maybe soon:
Axle back nameless
Lathe werks shift knob
summer wheels, stock rubber until they are fine, relegate stock wheels to winter

Taking suggestions on other easy mods

LED lights, JDM clear sides probably> Some stuff only my build thread but not really much I would say is on the "easier" side

Khazzy 03-24-2013 03:30 AM

Clear side markers were my first. Rally Armor flaps were second. Then came the JPM stuff. Little by little, 1 piece at a time haha. Wheels and cat back exhaust are next.

whaap 03-24-2013 09:22 AM

The first thing I did was remove the sound tube coming back into the cabin. Everything else I did was appearance only. I added the Subaru trunk lid liner, a full size arm rest/cover to the open cavity in the console, an aluminum plaque in the console indent and a 2" stubby radio antenna. At present I'm very happy with things just the way they are.

GregV 03-24-2013 09:59 AM

Clear side markers, debadging, front lip, short antenna, window tint, & exhaust all done in the first month I owned the car.

Mango22 03-24-2013 11:23 AM

Invidia Q300 catback exhaust with catless/no res front pipe and also Cusco front and rear strut bars.

Beyer Subaru 03-24-2013 11:53 AM

I went with:
Debadge - I threw the badges at my Finance Mgr
USDM Impreza Sport Rims
JDM Clear Side Markers
JDM Exhaust Cutter Kit
JDM Rear Bumper Cover
JDM Engine Cover
Chrome Turn Signal Bulbs

All were "relatively" inexpensive.

BRZfan 03-24-2013 01:28 PM

First mod: Because I was getting that 'burnt smell" so many of us have been complaining about, a neighbor (and an auto engineer) here in southeast Michigan, recommended I get a pair of exhaust extensions that would extend out beyond the bumper. The thinking was that in certain conditions such as direction of breeze when car is stopped might allow fumes to penetrate the interior.

Deadspool 03-24-2013 02:18 PM

Eibach sportlines, 18'' Motegi DP6 w/ KDW-2 tires.

I think those were factory oils used in manufacturing that take time to completely burn away. The Subaru dealer told me to expect this smell and I later read it somewhere on this forum. Also some exhausts have material that leaves soot in the tips until its completely burned away and the soot deposits greatly reduce.

Dorb 03-24-2013 07:42 PM

Drop the crappy tips and replace with the JDM tips, unless going to put on new exhaust. Just added the trunk liner and rear diffuser. (looks just like switchlanez, lol)

Jaylyons1 03-24-2013 08:03 PM

Debadged it the day it got home. Dipped the wheels black a day later.

Not much has changed except now it has 18x8.75 XXR 527's.

An upgraded head unit will make a bigger difference than upgraded speakers. The stock speakers are actually decent once you have better sound processing.

was385 03-25-2013 10:50 AM

1. SRT Headerback
2. Perrin short antenna
3. JPM Coachworks trim bits
4. Perrin Drop-in Filter
5. Perrin Inlet tube
6. Perrin shifter bushing (sitting on my desk right now)
7. Whiteline transmission bushing (sitting on my desk right now)

Meehow86 03-25-2013 11:21 AM

1. Grimmspeed license plate relocator
2. Perrin short antenna

any suggestions on that?

I was thinking about the clarion unit with active xovers on it... can't remember the name.

tjoy 03-25-2013 04:59 PM

Good things:
Opticoat
window tint

Bling:
JDM tips
Limited Heater ring trim

Not planning on any exhaust/air/etc engine mods since they don't dyno significantly higher than margin of error. Those are basically expensive bling at this point.

DR1FT 03-26-2013 07:23 AM

Hotchkis lowering springs, works emotion 11r's, dws conti wheels and cusco shorty antenna

tjoy 03-26-2013 10:15 PM

Pro-tip, if you want JDM tips, just keep checking ebay. I got mine from someone who replaced their OEM exhaust chasing a 1-5HP "possible" upgrade.

BryanGT 03-27-2013 04:03 PM

Tint. I'm a very shy person.

ShoNUFF 03-27-2013 09:29 PM

Trunk liner at dealer.

Then LED's all around

JDM pushbutton start
Tints

All within 1st month.

njccmd2002 03-27-2013 09:32 PM

see my post, but started with tint, then short shifter, (awaiting) and trunk liner.

ST185RC 03-27-2013 10:04 PM

STi Titanium shift knob. I hate the stock knob.

LeeMaster 03-27-2013 11:35 PM

Plasti dip stock rims to white, cheap mod and makes your car stand out imo

actinium 03-28-2013 12:06 AM

Clutch pedal adjustment and T1R mirrors. I HIGHLY recommend the mirrors they eliminate the blind spot and reduce glare at night, they're fantastic

So happy I decided to get them. I don't have the car but it will surely be one of the first things I install.

Can you confirm if this makes the heated mirrors feature useless?

Sounds like a good mod, but the heated mirrors is a must have for winter time around these parts...

MidnightRunner 03-28-2013 12:20 PM

25% tint for the sides, with 10% on rear (south florida sun is brutal). 12" pioneer sub, and upgraded 6.5" door speakers. Now that she sounds good, helping her breathe better is the next step.

actinium 03-28-2013 12:23 PM

I'm sure if you got creative or tried to get the mirror without the adhesive backing it could work. But short answer is yes it will make the heated mirror useless.

Depends on how much you're willing to shell out. Diamond makes a top notch set with the hex. Focal has a few really nice sets out there that'll work as well. The 6.5 will need a spacer (maybe a shallow mount might drop in?), and don't forget that the stock speaker comes in at 2ohm. Hope that helps

I'm debating what percentage to get. I'm moving to Florida this summer so I need good tint. How is it at night?

I've usually run 15% on the rear in my past cars, and my thunderbird with 10% so I'm used to the rear being darked out. 15% isn't too bad, but if you want to play it safe 20% should do the trick. Not sure the ruling in NE, but down here the cops'll give you major sh!t for going not being 28% especially in a car that grabs attention. I had 25% on my old 300zx and I kept getting pulled over, while I never had a problem with my Mercedes sedan at 20%. Depending on the color of your car, I'd recommend 28% around and 20% on the rear.

(Btw if you have a dermatologist note that states that you have a "skin condition" you can get slightly darker tint, and get your windshield tinted as well... But you didn't hear it from me )

m.wood0213 03-29-2013 01:20 AM

My first mod isn't really a mod put a logical necessity. License plate relocation kit.

86X86 03-29-2013 01:57 PM

First was debadging. Just installed Perrin exhaust tips and shorty antenna.
Parts on order: WORKS air filter, armrest, fr-s mud flaps, GrimmSpeed LP relocater, and a few other tidbits.
Currently shopping for paint protection options in Alaska.

jimbobrand 03-29-2013 02:52 PM

My first mods were:
Grimmspeed Front plate mount
18x8.5" Rays Gram Light 57M's w/235/40/18 Hankook V12 Evos
Nameless offset/offset axelback
AFE Intake
White STI Duracon shiftknob
SPT Blue anodized oil cap and battery tie down

I still need to install the Kartboy rear endlinks I initially bought for my old Legacy and the Hella Supertones that I removed from my old Outback.
