Awesome thanks for posting that up =D

Sweet!

Useful. I think they tested the wrong Conti. Would've preferred the ExtremeContact summer instead.

If the Tirerack specs are accurate, the Italian made 225/40R18 Pirelli PZero is a freak of a tyre. At 9.4" tread width on the recommended 8" wide wheel, it puts more rubber on the road than the 235, 245, 255 and 275 PZero (all on wider wheels). The 265 PZero is an unremarkable 2 or 3mm wider (on a 9.5" wide wheel).
I'm not saying they did, but if you were going to pick a size to ensure a PZero win - this is it. |
I'm not saying tread width is everything (because a wide crap tyre is still a crap tyre), but this makes for interesting reading:
Bridgestone 8.7" Continental 7.8" Dunlop (not stated) Goodyear 8.7" Hankook 7.7" Kumho 8.5" Michelin 8.2" Pirelli 9.4" |
Nice info, but I wish they would have thrown in a 225/40/17 for comparison.
TireRack seems to have the same P Zero available for purchase in the USA. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes I am surprised that the Michelin did not do better, but I think it works better on heavier cars. I like the car they picked for their test vehicle! Edit: Looked more closely at the results. The P Zero did poorly in the dry slalom, only just beating the original equipment Michelin Primacy tires! What? Not much advantage here. |
The Goodyear F1 A2's are impressive, especially for the money. TR currently has them for $110/ea after rebate. Very tempted to go with these for my next track/autocross tires, if I don't go with Z2 SS or Rivals.

This makes me very happy with my purchase. Thanks for posting

So, P Zero or nothing eh?
|
Why didn't they test any sticky tires?

That test seems a little weird to me, as someone who has owned quite a few of these tires, the Pirelli P Zero are not very good. They're AWFUL for wet braking, and their road manners are bad. (noisy and rough)
I think this is a much better test to refer to : http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...omparison-test |

I just got a price for a set of 225/45-17 and might order them in the morning. Just a thought but perhaps we get higher spec tyres here for the higher price we pay? |
I skimmed the article & couldn't find if they mentioned wheel width
Did anyone see it in the article? |
One of leading Russian car magazines AuroReview did recently a similar test of high performance tires with very similar results:
1st - Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 2nd - Dunlop Sport Maxx RT 3rd - Continental ContiSportContact 5 Pirelli P Zero did not participate but Pirelli P Zero Rosso was 6th out of 9 contenders. I will go for Dunlops - consistently among leaders in tests and weight less than anything: 8.4 kg for 225/40R17 - compare with 11kg for the same Pirelli P Zero Rosso or 11.3kg for Bridgestone Potenza. It should feel like 10 extra hp thanks to 10kg less rotating mass! http://www.autoreview.ru/_archive/se...ECTION_ID=7279 |
Flogged those Dunlop Sport Maxx RT's on the track today. Here's a couple hundred miles of break in wear plus one day on the track.
The tire did perform fairly well, especially in the wet. Seemed slightly squirmy under very hard braking... but that could have been some other factor (I'm a n00b). http://i.imgur.com/oDLzaJ1.jpg?1 |
thanks for posting the review :)
