TOP GEAR Aus Magazine + RELEASE DATE

1 Attachment(s)
First of all sorry if this is a repost, I haven't been on in a while and I searched but found nothing...

So I was reading the articles about the 86 and BRZ in the Australian version of Top Gear magazine... The text is almost identical to the version posted up already (which is the UK one i believe) but there a few extra lines of text here and there. For example (from pg 66):

"In the US, the Toyota 86 will sell for about $25000. But because Australia is viewed by foreign car makers as Treasure Island, we will pay closer to $40000 when it goes on sale on the eighth of June 2012 (Get it? 8/6?)."

It goes on to say that they're hoping it priced closer to $35000...

I dont have a scanner but as I said it's pretty much the same as the one already up. Different pics though. I haven't finished reading but if I find any other interesting points I'll post them up.

EDIT: So here's a pic of the 86 interior for the Aus version. Sorry for the rubbish quality but it's the best I could do with my phone.

Wow, 8/6 I never thought about that... If it's true then this is a very interesting detail.

Hopefully the US dealers aren't trying to stick with this, I want it in May!

4point8 01-07-2012 11:57 PM

Yeah when I read 8/6 I couldn't believe I didn't think of that :bonk:

8/6 huh? Does make sense :) Would be funny.

Anyway, does this mean your order will go trough on 8/6 and then the waiting begins? Or will production start before and will they be delivered on 8/6 to people who ordered them?

Questions.....

it means you can order it on the 8th of June, then get it on Aug 6th

70NYD 01-08-2012 07:48 AM

Production has already started, you can see that in one of the videos from tokyo :)
I like the interior more and more :D

davey90 01-08-2012 04:57 PM

:confused0068: $40K WTF!?! :mad0259:

as 4point8 stated, "Hopefully it will be closer to $35K..."

In magazines they put the price as drive away price or just the car?

Slide 01-08-2012 05:59 PM

lol the 8/6 is old old old old news... been said since the unavailing at Toyko... But I was hoping it was some rumour some funny jurno started...

But 40k... is not affordable by any means!

and when cars are priced in magazines they are the car price because every state has a different cost for drive away... due to rego and insurance cost in your state...

so looks like what the dealer said like 6 months ago saying it will be 43k drive away is looking true :'(

Wonder if that really is an Australian Delivered car... Because I swear we will get screwed with the centered Tacho... lol at the comment about red leather steering wheel haha! funny they didn't mention the size of it.

My dealer told me they were hoping to secure as many 86's as they could for sale on launch day. But admitted Toyota Aus may only allocate them 15 or so.

As with most global brands, Aus launches are always delayed behind larger markets. So hopefully production will have commenced well before the local release date.

My experience has taught me the longer you wait to order such a popular car around launch, the wait for delivery grows exponentially! Make no mistake, international demand for this car is going to be phenomenal!

Actually in other countries they write out their date (day)/(month)/(year) unlike our (month)/(day)/(year). So, if it is 8/6/12 that means the release is June 8th.

Not liking the red trimmings, I prefer black with red stitching.
The other option I have is get the entry level version.

It all depends on the prices in the end ay. If the difference isn't that great between the low and high spec, adding parts on will be more expensive. Headlights alone will prob be around 1k if not more. Dash as well. And the dual climate controll
Man this is getting annoying, the not knowing prices part, as we can't do much but sit and wait untill they get released. The hid lamps will need washers as well to make them legal

Nardi330 03-06-2012 09:13 PM

and self leveling too for HID to be legal.

i think BRZ has the spec i want. still need to wait and see.

Yeah if only we knew the price!! s(.

if it's only 5k diff I would go high spec... cause it will cost 1k for lights retro fit. and I def want the speedo dial... couldn't do that retro fit :s
