Good LED DRLS?

Anyone know of any good LED DRLS? I bought some ones from Concept-Three-LEDS and got crappy bulbs that didn't work and dont wanna get ripped off again so I was wondering if anyone else had bought any from somewhere else? I bought my HIDS from K1_ZN6 @ HID POWERHOUSE and they were really good all around but was just checkingy options.

CrazyWookiee 03-20-2013 08:13 PM

Wow. Insightful post. I'm not gonna be a jerk and say use the search or comment on you slandering Concept-Three-LEDS, so I'm just gonna answer your question. I wish more people would just answer the question if someone's looking for help when they know the answer.

Got my HID's from HID Powerhouse as well and would recommend him for LED DRL's as well.

Whatever you do [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AWIEIIK/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1"]DON"T BUY THESE[/ame].

I had one separate and fall into the headlight with no way to get it out. I had to bake and split the headlight, i took the opportunity to paint the headlight, but it was still a huge PITA.

I'll post pics if you want, i'm just being lazy.

Those look sexy! They split in two ? :/

Anyone know where to get DRL that have a bit more hint of blue than 6000k?

Flako 03-20-2013 08:27 PM

Thanks guys I think I'm going to end up buying them from HID Powerhouse from what iv read it's all positive feedback and they look like quality bulbs.

I second this. It doesn't matter what LED DRL you get. As long as you get an LED DRL, you WILL lose your high beams. I got mine from HID powerhouse and they look good, but I am considering real bulbs.

This is the one and only reason I haven't done LED DRL's. I now have LED lights for everything, except the DRL. Oh well, I would rather see better at night than have the car look better during the day.

Yesterday I saw a white GT spec in Melbourne and it had LEDs there too but it seemed like a replacement globe or something like that.

I'd be happy with that

Correct me if I'm wrong, but putting a HID bulb in the DRL/high beam slot would be blinding to oncoming traffic as there is no projector housing there.

Even putting an HID bulb into the stock projectors is a bad idea unless you bend the light cut off metal piece down or get proper projector housings, such as the ones from The Retrofit Source.

jjdrivesajazz 03-22-2013 12:36 PM

80% of the time, you use your high beams to flash for a quick second or use them for a couple seconds on the backroads, rarely do you use your high beams for a long period of time. I do not suggest installing HID kits into the high beam for a couple reasons

-Quick flash of the high beams will cause the bulbs/ballast to fail prematurely
-HID bulbs take about 15-20 seconds to warm up and fully settle in color temperature, so they wouldn't be bright for flashing anyways
-You'd have to run a relay/resistor harness to allow the HID's to function properly during DRL mode

I personally would get a pair of authentic PIAA or Raybrig 9005 bulbs, they work for DRL mode and high beam mode, function like OEM, and are a brighter white than OEM.

Do you have a link to these bulbs?

Why is this?

CamryDS 04-18-2013 07:25 PM

HID_Powerhouse's DRL's are G's 7.5 watt 9005's I have them on my car and they are nice -- I don't care about high beams since i rarely use them. DRL's they are great.

I'm looking for LED low beams now since I really don't care about messing with HIDs anymore.

Is there no way to hardwire LED DRLs to function as high-beams ever?

Xdragonxb0i 04-18-2013 11:52 PM

They dont just get hot enough/ bright enough to function as High beams.

FR-Slide 04-18-2013 11:54 PM

But I guess what I am asking is, with LED DRLs can you not at least activate them to shine (with low-beams) when the high's are turned on? Surely something is better than nothing, no?

LED's do not project light nearly as well as halogen and HID bulbs.

They do function when you flip your high beams on. However, they aren't any brighter when in high beam mode than they are when they are on DRL's.

LED -> One Brightness

Is that true...all the LED for DRL's are only ONE brightness??

Ah, thank you!

Was looking at @KI_ZN6's posts for HID_Powerhouse showing the G's LED DRLs and they look bright as fawk at night (though it may just be due to no proper housing to aim/project), so maybe I'll opt for those to at least have some meaningful additional output with high-beams.

I have the G's. If you want I can get pictures of light output tonight as well as daytime output.

That'd be awesome :thanks:
Looking to get everything as close to matching as possible, b/w the switchbacks, side markers, and HID (or LED) lows and LED DRLs.

No problem. I'm trying to match everything too. All are going to be 6000k.

Our G's LED DRLs are one of the brightest ones out there. :thumbsup:Thanks for the complements! :thanks::happy0180:

I had offered a free replacement upon return of the defective bulbs in question, but @Flako refused to return them until I sent him new ones. I had also even offered to pay for the return shipping on the defective bulbs once they arrived. Received negative feedback from him since he refused to return the bulbs. Just didn't want him slandering my name without sharing my side of the story. Sure, bulbs are defective from time to time, it happens. When this does happen I have absolutely 0 issue replacing them free of charge, I just ask for the defective ones back. You don't go to Walmart, buy something, then go back and claim it's broken and expect a new replacement without returning the broken item, do you?

I got my switchbacks (from @Precisionleds) today. I'll get some night pics. The best I could do was change the focus point and slight angle. The switchbacks match the HID headlights better than the DRL, BUT I have the older HID bulb from @KI_ZN6 which is a little bit bluer than the ones he supplies now. The newer HID bulbs he supplies (which I also have) are closer to DRLs.

Looks sweet man! I ended up going to Kenneth for the whole she-bang, can't wait to get rid of the dingy halogens, the LED/HID does wonders for the vehicle. Will be sure to post pics once everything arrives. Sadly, the G's are on backorder :(
