Scion.com FR-S page updated

Just noticed the Scion webpage has been updated.

http://www.scion.com/cars/FR-S/

Look like the FR-S is getting wider tires in the rear than the 86

From the spec page:
Quote:

TIRE SIZE
FRONT 215/40R17
REAR 225/40R17
Not sure if it's an error, I find it odd they changed from 215/45R17 to 215/40R17

2fast4you 01-06-2012 03:23 PM

Odd.

Ribface 01-06-2012 03:34 PM

If true, this could imply different tires than the Michelin Primacy HP that were on the test cars.

r4m3n 01-06-2012 03:36 PM

omg... Scion FINALLY moved away from an all-Flash website. Horrendous experience before.

I'd wait until Monday before getting worked up about it; it could be an error.

Squatch86 01-06-2012 03:37 PM

what are the wheel dimensions? It's a common practice that makers use the same width of wheel all around and put a grade up wider on the rear.

is the 17 all the FRS is going to come with? I prefer the 16's.

A Gomez 01-06-2012 03:37 PM

Staggered tires, huh.... Another yellow flag (if not red). I am not optimistic about the prices any longer.

Kids Heart 01-06-2012 03:41 PM

Bore and stroke is 86 X 88?

I'm more worried about the 17's being the only. I know the wheels have to be the same width all around.

Come on, base model shit Scion. I don't need gizmo's and flashy wheels i'm going to replace anyway. :brokenheart:

Good catch. Is Scion checking to see if we're paying attention?

I hope you are right. And I thought they were going to equip this car with 16 inch wheels to keep the cost down, but why did they change it to 17 inch? Oh well, we will know soon enough.....

WingsofWar 01-06-2012 03:51 PM

whoever is updating the Scion site for the FRS should be fired and shot...

To publish a template with so many blanks and typos for the official site is wrong.

Although I think this could be the "release model?" Doesn't Scion usually do that kind of shit?

I thought the same. It only seems logical that they'd have something to keep the price down.. I guess it's good that i'll wait till' 2013... something will have to break.

NumbersGuy 01-06-2012 04:02 PM

Why do they tease me so much! :( I was all excited when I saw the interior dimensions tab, only to find out that there are no numbers. Was praying I would finally be able to know how much front legroom this will have and if I will be able to fit. :(

US cars have always had the 17s specced.

Syldrin 01-06-2012 04:12 PM

ya'll did read that the vehicle is equiped with option extras right?

Exactly what I was thinking. Unprofessional.

Did Scion hire a bunch of high school students? :/

Oh my bad, then. Stagerred setting still seems odd. Could be a typo.

It always been 17 inch wheels. The tC comes with 18 inch wheels. There is no way there were going to make a monospec FR-S come with tiny 16 inch wheels!

Isn't the model year supposed to read 2013 instead of 2012?

YES. It is

ayau 01-06-2012 04:40 PM

With so much R&D spent on the 215/45/75 non-staggered tires, I doubt Scion is going to equip them with wider/heavier/more expensive tires.

I'm not an expert in tires, but I'd imagine changing the tires to a staggered setup will dramatically change the vehicle dynamics that are different than the 86's original intent.

I have a strong feeling that this was a typo.

Kids Heart 01-06-2012 04:46 PM

Front suspension says STRUT instead of MACPHERSONŽ STRUT

Kids Heart 01-06-2012 04:48 PM

CHASSIS AND BODY section is redundant.

Is 6-SPEED AUTOMATIC WITH PADDLE SHIFTERS the technical term?

Syldrin 01-06-2012 04:56 PM

i think most companies have adopted paddle shifters as a legit term.

ahausheer 01-06-2012 05:03 PM

Even the font looks bad. Scions website has sucked for way to long. If they are trying to reinvent themselves they need a new website badly. If im going to spend 20-30 K on anything they at least better have a dam good website.

Kids Heart 01-06-2012 05:07 PM

The 2012 is bothering me the most

tripjammer 01-06-2012 05:27 PM

It will all come clean on Monday. Yeah the site sucks but the scion site has sucked for like forever. They just need to get a good web designer.

KevinDuMa 01-06-2012 05:29 PM

i dont think its that bad...its alot better than how the site was before thats for sure

KidWonder 01-06-2012 05:51 PM

Yea I agree, this website is a big improvement over their last website design.

After test driving some more the rear end was determined to be too loose probably thanks to the softer springs up front. So they are compensating it by putting more traction on the back. The original tires that were gonna go in the back can still be used on the front for the cars manufactured in the future.

That might be the case... but wall of 40? Man, that won't be to fun of a ride imo

you say its a matter of fact..what testing? what looseness? what sources? im trying to find where you got this via search..

the cars suspension geometry from previous articles says the car provides good performance without needing additional traction from sport tires.

If they wanted more traction, they should have opted for better rubber, IE not Prius tires. Increasing the contact patch in the back will probably slow the car down, rather than help any. And based on test drive reports, it sounds like it doesn't have enough power to really need a 225 rears.

If by going to an aspect ratio of 40mm vs the original 45mm, are they looking for MORE turning response..eg looseness?

Staggard setup from the factory looks like a typo or misinformation...like the rest of the information on that site.

Dave-ROR 01-06-2012 07:25 PM

Damn Scion needs to hire some better content writers for the website. Better than before, but still shit. And I think the staggered tires are a typo as well.

Zgrinch 01-06-2012 07:53 PM

I hope the high schoolers updating the web site don't screw up when they post the prices..

I can see it now...

FRS base price ... $32,850
Oops we meant 23,850.
