Wipe Out.......... almost

1 Attachment(s)
Young teeny-bopper with a "NEW" driver sign on her SUV races to make a blind left turn.... right in front of me!

I hammered the brakes.. they worked!

shawnperolis 03-16-2013 05:35 PM

What brakes are those and how much better are they than the stock ones? Because the FRS is probably one of the best stopping cars I've ever owned.

Don't know if serious.... Can you read what the caliper says? It is not rocket science.

The FRS and BRZ brakes are fine, until they get hot.. then they fade like a bad memory.

These are AP racing brakes.. purchased from Stillen:

Wow... I'm 16 and I have just under 4 months of driving experience, so I'm a new driver as well. However if it's a blind left turn I don't care about the people honking behind me, if I can't see I don't take those chances. I'll just wait until the orange comes, make sure everyone safely stops then I go.

Ganthrithor 03-16-2013 06:08 PM

SUV driver drives like an asshat. World shocked.

Knshro13 03-16-2013 06:51 PM

Are you trying to sell us brakes? I had the same thing happen to me too. I slammed on my stock brakes and they worked as well....

Trog 03-16-2013 06:54 PM

No, I sell SUV's.

Sorry bro, picture was so big most of it wasn't on my screen. No need to be an asshole.

Do you track the car?

Trog 03-17-2013 07:14 AM

Right I had to read his post a couple of times to make sure I read it correctly.

If it's true, good on him. Maybe...just maybe there's hope after all.

A BBK (at least none that I know of) WILL NOT reduce braking times in these types of situations. What they will do is reduce brake fade which is a result of repeated hard braking applications (read: HEAT) because of higher surface area for heat dissipation and increased efficiency.

The ONLY way to effectively reduce braking distances in this type of situation is to get better rubber, it's the only part of the car that actually touches the pavement.

OP has bridgestone potenza's which likely contributed to the save far more than the Wilwood BBK.

Hey, I take offense to that. Actually I don't. I consider myself responsible on the roads at 22, but most of my friends I wouldn't get in a car with them driving. Young drivers have always had a lack of experience. The fact that now we have cell phones that can search the internet and text is just downright frightening.

I meant the orange light where everyone is supposed to safely stop if possible.

One time I had this idiot honk me, when there was still a guy running the orange light through the intersection. Does he want me to hit the other guy or what? :iono:

This needs to be acknowledged by everyone involved in every discussion on brakes.

Let me tell you in full experience of the cars braking system...they can damn well be improved considering if I had upgraded brakes I may not have slid into the back of an idiots car. When they are hot the fade and are not super reliable in emergent braking situations!
