oh wow thats nice! Perrin does it again!

Turbowned 03-15-2013 04:09 PM

I don't get it.

(I do get it, but I wouldn't buy it)

NOHOME 03-15-2013 05:30 PM

Remind me again why I would need this? Does your car not have a lockout?

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess its a bling thing?

996garage 03-15-2013 05:36 PM

Someone needs to release a polished steel short shifter version. I had a C's version on my MKIV SupraTT, and it looked and felt awesome. One of the best mods ever.

Because some people would rather not have to feel (and look at) that cheap plastic lockout lever every time they get in their car. Same reason for any cosmetic modification.

Cjymiller 03-15-2013 08:12 PM

90 bucks is steep. I'm sure it feels nice and the shifter is certainly a common touch point but I would rather put that money to a set of overly expensive clear side markers.

Zaku 03-15-2013 08:28 PM

I totally forgot about the lever thing, I keep thinking if I shift into 6 it's Reverse since my last car was 5 speed manual

OrbitalEllipses 03-15-2013 08:38 PM

No, I bought a short shifter for $200 that already had a lockout lever. If you're gonna spend $90 for cosmetics....might as well get a short shifter that increases performance AND cosmetics. Mine's milled Delrin and not aluminum, but considering how cold/hot my half aluminum knob gets, I don't think I want an aluminum reverse lockout.

I personally hate the lockout feature. I wish they would have done like any other car company and made it a push down or a push over far left. It's hideous and its hard to grip the knob without gripping the plastic for the lockout.

RazBRZ 03-16-2013 12:40 PM

Sounds like you need a bigger knob.

I like it but not when I can get steering rack bushings for a bit more

Yes, more info please! Brand? If I could fit my old Veilside metal knob on it, I'd be a happy man!

Just ordered my brz today, so I need to get started on the mods:thumbsup:

It's available in a red finish too, I think.

Laika 03-17-2013 11:13 AM

Hmm I was really excited for something like this to be available. I don't like the plastic OEM lockout but I DO like the OEM shifter/throw in general. I feel like I might ruin that with a short shifter.

$90 is a bit steep, even for Perrin. As stated, I'd rather get clear corners for around that price.

KSC 03-17-2013 11:38 AM

Yeah, I think I'd rather spend my money on something that helps me go foward.

dorifuto 03-17-2013 12:01 PM

The Perrin price is pretty high. The only reason I would consider this part is because at sustained high rpm the factory lockout vibrates pretty bad. It's not a huge deal but an annoyance I could do without.

After taking delivery of my BRZ I actually was ok with the stock shifter throw, so instead of getting the short shifter, I got this piece from Japan...

Now I need to get a nice polished shift knob to match it. With the new reverse lockout lever and oem armrest I installed, the interior now feels complete.

Looks nice, where'd you get it and for how much?

996garage 06-20-2013 04:07 PM

Found it on www.japanparts.com. The currency exchange came out to $56 when I bought it. Shipping will cost more of course, but it only took 1 week to arrive.
