-Enjoy racing, have fun, no cheating/breaking rules! (Cheaters will have a painful death.. Bad karma will happen. Someone will crash into their 86/FR-S/BRZ. They go to hell and all that stuff...)

-Most things regarding GT5 + TOYBARU + Nordschleife is up for discussion here. That means tuning setups, tips and tricks. Original chassis vs. tweaked, tires, Toybaru vs other cars on Nordschleife in GT5.. etc..

-Would be nice if people posted the whole leaderboard for the specific car and added their time on the leaderboard with bold letters..

I don't know this track, but once I learn it I'll give it a go.

I have a request for participants to help us less experienced drivers improve: Can you guys attach replays?

Instructions for Sharing Replays via USB

Export
  1. After racing, hit the save ghost replay button
  2. Go to Replay Library and pick the file
  3. Hit Export Save Data
  4. Exit GT5
  5. Insert USB stick if you haven't yet
  6. Go to the Game column and choose Saved Data Utility (PS3) and choose the replay file
  7. Hit the Green triangle > Copy
  8. Choose the USB stick and hit X
  9. On your computer, copy and compress the entire PS3 > SAVEDATA > BCUS98114-RPL### folder path and attach it to your post
Import
  1. On your computer, download the attached ZIP file and extract it to the USB stick. If the folder path PS3 > SAVEDATA is missing, create it and put BCUS98114-RPL### in it.
  2. Insert USB stick into PS3
  3. In the PS3's main menu, go to the Games column and choose Saved Data Utility (PS3)
  4. Scroll to and select the USB drive
  5. Select the Replay file you want
  6. Hit the Green triangle and Copy
  7. Start GT5 and go to GT Mode
  8. Go to Replay Theater, hit Import (icon with little box and arrow), choose the file, and hit X
  9. Once it's imported, it'll be on your Replay list.
Notes:
  • The smallest file (PARAM.SFO) has the course, car, driver, and date in it.
  • Replays appear to be region specific (at least, I'm unaware of a workaround). BCUS98114 = US, BCES00569 = Europe.
  • Laptime, car, track, driver, and date are all listed when you select each file. Laptime shown in the replay itself is previous best, not time of the replay.
  • See gtplanet for more details.

It is hard to learn the whole track all at once if you are not familiar with it.
Doing the special events at Nordschleife makes it easier to learn the track since you only do about 1/4 of the track at a time.

Ill might try to upload a replay file once I have gotten in front of the PS3 and done some decent laps. Urging other people to do the same.
Also, if people contribute with some nice drift or hotlap videos and post them on youtube, then I will put the links in my first post.

Good idea, I'll try the special events. I'm still interested in seeing how you guys drive it with the stock GT86 though.

Go at it. It shouldn't be to hard to beat that rec. as for drift point in Tsukuba stock 86, iirc I got around 19xxx

Sorry, I am going to focus on Nordschleife only in this thread..
I have been thinking about adding a 3. drift challenge tough.. A "speed drift challenge". Should fit Nordschleife well. Sounds interesting? :)

What about sector drift?

RaceR 01-02-2012 10:01 PM

I tried sector drift first. Wich was my first time. It was really boring doing just that part, and short! Did not get the "Nordschleife feel" at all..

Then I tried to "speed drift" the track.. In a 500pp GT86 on comfort hard.
Technically, i did 103.000 points with the time of 9.05 (stop watch).
Ok, so my result were only 29981. But I lost one drift with over 40k, one with over 20k and one with 9,5k. Just got a little grass on all of them..
Anyway, it was serious fun! :D Except the part were I lost the 44k drift points. :p
I guess I will never bother doing sector drift on Nordschleife again. This was awesome!

How to "speed drift"?
You just drift the Nordschleife like you would in the drift challenge were there are no tuning restrictions. If your time is under 9 minutes, it qualifies for "the speed drift leaderboard" as well.
Having problems getting under 9 minutes. Put on stickier tires... Lapping in 8.40. Put on tires with less grip and get more drift points.. Simple

Ill be aiming for a clean 100k+ in under 9 minutes.
Get your stop watches of for this one...

For the record, im not into the drifting community, so excuse me if "speed drifting" is a bad name for this kind of high-speed-drift-time-trial-thingy... :p

EDIT: **First post updated with speed drift leaderboard**

Doing this is fine, the team I'm in always do these kind of things... But problem is Nur is too damn long & I'm not gonna even bother doing it again.

If you gonna do speed drift, I would recommend Trail Mount &/or Autumn Ring reverse for beginner

It is awesome! :party0030:

Stock car - no pp limit (413pp max)- Sport hard *
*NOTE: We will not race or post laptimes in a stock car on sport hard here. It has already been done in this thread without the 410pp limit. The following leaderboard is closed in this and the other thread. It is just for reference.
People still want to drive stock car on sport hard?? If several people wish to, then ill start to update that leaderboard.
That challenge closed at the end of desember in the thread where it started. I could reopen it here if it is very important for people to drive with sport hard.. But why not try some tuned versions of the GT86 or stock car with some less grippy tires?
1st places are still open on several of the leaderboards;)
Comfort soft is what basically all the GT86s competetors car use as default tires in GT5. Why not try out the car with the same tires as its competitors are equipped with for a change? :)

Was going to speed drift on my second run too, but my time got way over 9 min. Drifting the Nordschleife is a real challenge!
I have saved both replays. But hoping to get above 100k when going fast.
Taking a break from drifting now tough...

ichitaka05 01-03-2012 11:44 PM

^hm... I did mine w very light mods... I wonder if I try a fully modded one, I'll hit over 100k

RaceR 01-04-2012 01:01 PM

Only one way to find out if you will do 100k+! ;)
Ill bet the exta power of the fully tuned car really makes a difference.

Go for it!

ichitaka05 01-04-2012 01:49 PM

^nah, I won't be doing it. Nur is way too long, after that mild tune 86 I was pretty much done. I prefer touge style Nur drift run better anyways. Speaking of that, I need to make 86 for that setup!

*Here are replays for u guys!*

One file was over 4mb. I just joined megaupload and added 4 of my replays into 1 zip file.

-stock sport hard time 8.12 range.. (from last month)
-stock, comfort medium 8.34.5
-speed drifting 96k, about 8.50
-tuned 450pp, 8 min
If you guys see best lap in the replay being higher. That is because it was my previous best time..

Toughts about tuned vs. stock
Im really not much of a tuner.
Just wanted to share my first impression on 410pp stock car vs. 410pp tweaked car, and also hear what u guys think.

For now i gained about 4,5 sec with the tweaked chassis. Could maybe do more now since I have spent more time with the same setup in my 450pp car.
After putting tuning parts on it. First I did not feel much improvement around the corners.
But I really noticed the effect the gearbox had! Fully utilizing the 6. gear and having the others a bit closer really made a difference. Ill guess half of my time improvement was because of the gearbox. Making me stay more in the high output RPM range.
Otherwise, it was mainly the suspension and camber that did the trick I think. Making the car lower and have better turn in (removed a little understeer) made it possible to not lift going trough some corners where a did lift just a little to get the back end around earlier.

How do you guys think this would translate into real life in terms of handling?
Is this basically a 5 speed car with the extra 6. for eco only?
And if you do not wish to lower more to the ground because the car will be a daily driver, then there will not be much improvement with aftermarked shocks?
If that is the case, than small tweaks of wheel angles and softer/stiffer rollbars should basically be the only adjustment made to handling to better fit your driving style if that is needed?

Squatch86 01-05-2012 03:36 PM

I'm still trying to figure the car out. The feel is natural, the power band feels an aweful lot like a inline four cylinder in the game rather than a quad boxer plant. But how the stock gears are set in game, it gives me the vibe of 5 + OD gear.

RaceR 01-05-2012 03:51 PM

You going to give a shot on some of the other leaderboards too Squatch86?
your time on comfort mediums are very good! Ill try to beat it some day, but not sure I can. I should be able to get into 8.33 tough..
But im afraid going back to the non tuned car will not be as much fun anymore. Love the sound and feel of the tuned 450pp.
And have not made a 500pp version yet. Except my drift version.
U got replay file btw? Id love to compare driving styles and lines.

Squatch86 01-05-2012 04:12 PM

Yeah I am man. I still feel I can gain a maximum of .500ths with the com.med's however. I didn't save a ghost file for that time sadly.. I'll try it again tonight!

Kamus 01-05-2012 04:44 PM

The highlighted one is stock, ABS set to 2, TC turned off, everything stock.
Pretty sure it's possible for me to shave at least a second if i try some more.
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...14/gt5gt86.jpg

All of the other time attacks in the SS are with stock settings (or default settings in the case of the tuner cars) except of course for the other GT 86 that has like 50 more HP than stock. i wanted to see how it compared to a 370 and It still can't touch a 370 Z by a long shot even with ~50 more HP (no other tunes where made for that except for engine performance though)

That said... i think i'm on top for now by quite a bit:

8:27.378 Fully stock, MT, 2 ABS, no TC, and all other settings as required.
^________^

You know what they say about records though

Squatch86 01-05-2012 04:50 PM

uh, what tires??

Slick 01-05-2012 06:00 PM

Just read that Sports Hard (Stock) will not be posted, too bad as I got a 8:31.689. I will have try it with Sports Medium now.

Love the Ring. Cool challenge guys!

RaceR 01-05-2012 06:12 PM

Why not give it a go with comfort soft?
Should have plenty of grip...

Stock tires, sports hard.

So those times won't be posted? those are supposed to be the stock tires =|

RaceR 01-05-2012 08:11 PM

I could reopen the stock hard since there seems to be some people wanting to post on that board. Just tough Id keep it closed since it officialy closed in desember in the thread were it started.
For the record, comfort soft is basically what every other rival to GT86 comes with as stock. GT86 should never have had sport hard as default tires.

Even comfort soft gives cars way more cornering grip than they would have in real life.. Just look at the times posted here on say, comfort medium.

After hotlapping the car with offline physics, I went online and drove it on comfort soft like people there were doing with the other stock cars in that range, because those cars come with comfort soft as default. GT86 felt nothing like the same, and grip was so low in comparison. For first time ever I spun out several times, and that never happens! I was used to going "full throttle all over the place" when hotlapping on sport hard + offline physics, same driving style as I would have in a NFS game.. BAM full throttle, bam brake for a TINY second, back to full throttle again. (nothing wrong with liking NFS games and beeing competitive in those btw)

To me, driving with sport hard in a 400pp car essentially feels like going to a track day in a Toyota Aygo and driving it with traction control on.
I would only find "competetive joy" in that if the other people were in simular cars. Not real driving pleasure, because I would not feel "one" with the car at all.

Ive written walls of text on the subject on this forum before. Feel free to read this, or this If you would like the read up on some facts/stats and my opinions about the subject. But I think I have said enough on that case.

When that said. Vote "reopen to sport hard" by writing it in a reply"
If 3 guys votes/says so, ill open it, compile the times from its previous thread + those posted in this one and update top 15 for as long as I update the other leaderboards. :)
We would then have 10 Nordschleife leaderboards to compete on here!
That way we can all enjoy our GT86s on Nordschleife, meet together in this thread and talk GT86 talk and sing kumbaya.. :D

Kinda funny. My current tuned car times. 8.30 - 8.00 - 7.30 :)

My 500pp time could "easily" be improved by a little I guess.
If some guys have problems going fast around Nordschleife. Remember, PINK PAINT adds tons of ekstra horsepower and grip. Common knowledge :D
This is my 500pp car on sport hard.

ichitaka05 01-06-2012 04:24 PM

^that's LFA pint isn't it? That's common pink, so it doesn't give you much HP. You need more rare Pink...

Damn, I thought I had the rare pink painted car photo... but I haven't uploaded yet. I'll show that later tonight

RaceR 01-06-2012 04:28 PM

Nah, this is not the LFA pink.
It is the "GT FLUORESENCE 009-W. Super rare! It is the best pink paint for HP and grip.
Looks way "sharper" and more bright strong pink in comparison to the "passionate pink" from the LFA.

Oh those GT paints you can buy em. That's not rare. Just need to cash em out and anyone can get em. :bellyroll:

But gotta say, that's pretty bright Pink. You can join the Team Pink LOL

RaceR 01-06-2012 04:48 PM

LOL... Nice cars! :)

I still think it is the best pink. Because u only get 1 if u buy the DLC. And people not buying it have never seen it. Ive got near 2000 paints. a couple of "boring pinks" there. But will never get another one of the pink on my GT86. It was a hard decision to pick the car that got it.
(not gonna buy the paint package again, and i just bought the "big package" with DLC stuff)

Just look at my car. Going airborne! Passionate pink will not make that stuff happen. Especially not the less bright pinks. Does not have that extra "omph" and "punch" u know.. ;)

Spend $10 on paint packs. HAVE MULTIPLE.

Nah... Not gonna use (more) real money on paint for a game.
But, the paint package should have at least three of every color. Or 10.

It does not contain that many new paints that interest me. I bought the big package mainly for SPA and wanting to see/have all the other stuff too, especially some of the TC cars..
