E85 Questions...

I'm excited to run E85 when it becomes available! :D

I'm just curious to those that have e85 on a stock car...what is it like lol?

I can't find many e85 videos on youtube of the FRS/BRZ and you can't tell how a car feels from a video.

Any cons anyone has for e85? Does e85 really cause hard starts in the winter?
Thanks guys! :thanks:

I have a bunch of e85 videos on my youtube page.

E85 picks up big power over stock !

Only major con is cold starts (in 30F or lower weather)

Nope, that's been resolved

You notice power improvements on a NA motor with E85? I thought E85 was only beneficial with Forced Induction? Can some clarify that? Thanks.

Research. More Power. Less MPG.

Mike from Moto-East has a e85 tune on his Stock Brz, it made a big difference.

E85 = all good except MPG.

what are you averaging?

feldy 03-10-2013 10:57 PM

What I would like to know is if you guys are running e85 every day and if so how long have you been... or only days that you go to the track ect. I have a e85 tune coming but I dont plan on running it every day. Only a few days before I go to autocross ect.

ScionFrsFan 03-10-2013 11:22 PM

The question is how long can the car run on e85 before problems. I know that other cars have run e85 with no problems but still...lol Once I try e85 I don't see myself going back haha.

Can't really tell you haven't really bothered to figure out the mileage yet,...but there is a ton of bad and misguided bias against it out there, 9 10ths of it just plain wrong, the only real concerns are availability in your area and getting a bad blend,(not gauranteed at pump to be E85,its possible to get more or less) and or if your car sits for months, it doesn't like storage to much.....the rest is all good, burns cleaner, less carbon deposits, burns cooler/less engine heat. Anti Knock quality, a tuner can advance timing alot more with it.

I dd on 85 with over 3k miles on it with 0 issues so far.

I average 23.x mpg (lots of highway but still spirited driving).

How easy is it to go back and forth with a proper tune? Like if I want to drive harder with better performance, can I use it one week with an e85 tune, and then the next week just switch to like 91 if I want better gas mileage for say a road trip?

i dont own a tune yet, But its really simple, You just have to drain your tank and switch maps.

husker741 03-11-2013 12:52 AM

I'll just drive to the gas station while my low fuel light is on, and keep the revs at 4k until it runs out :D

ScionFrsFan 03-11-2013 01:07 AM

You would think flex fuel would be standard on our cars since it post such great gains!!!??

You just have to get a Flex Fuel Kit with your E85 tune.. then you won't have to worry about draining your 93 gas tank empty before filling up with E85.

I have Visconti's e85 tune and have been on e85 since October. I did switch to pump gas for 2 weeks in December because of cold start issues but the cold start issues have now been resolved. Car fires up just like pump gas. I only get around 17mpg but it's well worth it because the car feels like a little beast for being n/a especially on the latest updated tune :)

Geez, that much of a gas mileage hit?

Area86 03-11-2013 02:16 AM

Yeah but I was only getting around 24-25 on pump. Mostly city driving for me.

Ranatsu 03-12-2013 10:28 AM

You can probably expect about a 28% decrease in fuel economy as a rough estimate. That is considering you drive exactly the same, but its probably going to be more of a hit initially because having that much more power is going to be too much fun for most to ignore.

DanoFA20 03-12-2013 10:37 AM

i think e85 gives you another 30 wheel right?
