There is a new window switch available to fix the passenger auto up/down issue

As of this morning, there is a new window switch available with improved logic to fix the auto up/down issue with the passenger-side window. This is the word straight from SoA after dealing with Subaru and my dealer for months on this issue (and on others), including a visit from a Subaru district rep. and field engineer. My dealer has ordered the new switch and I'll be having it installed soon. If you go to the dealer and they order a new switch I cannot guarantee it will be the new part number; I will try to get it from the dealer (in case it's different from the old one) and post it here for you tomorrow.

Edit: Apparently the new window switch is not yet order-able. My dealer is working with Subaru in order to do so on Monday of next week. The dealer could not provide me with the part number today, but hopefully will be able to do so on Monday.

Edit 3/11: My dealer either could not or would not provide me with the part number. I will have to wait until I bring the car in to get it for you unfortunately.

Edit 4/1: The revised part number is 83071CA011. I'm still waiting for it to arrive at the dealer to evaluate whether or not it truly solves the issue.

Edit 4/11: I had the new part installed yesterday. I tried repeatedly to duplicate the failure today and could not do so. I am cautiously giving the new part my sign of approval!

The part number should be listed on the receipt, so make sure you get one.

I aim to call the dealer tomorrow in advance of my actual appointment which has not yet been scheduled. For reference, the old P/N is 83071CA010. You do not want this.

Oh great, you have the old number. I'll check tomorrow at work to see if this old part number supersedes on our end too to a new one for the Scion guys.

I had my window switch replaced once already before the new part came out.

According to the parts catalog (Toyota), the new part started being used in December, 2012.

This should be a TSB for our cars...

Looking forward to trying the new switch. I will call my local dealership soon.

So I had the issue in my old frs. Had the switch swapped months ago and same thing. My new car switch feels completely different when hitting the passenger auto. There is a clear feel of just a tap and a full push for auto. It works exactly how I would want one to work. Ill have the door card pulled off in a few weeks to do sound deadening. Ill check the part number. New build date of this car is 1/13 as opposed to 5/12 of the last car.

I took my car to the dealer yesterday and had the window switch replaced. I don't notice a huge difference in the feel of the switch as compared to my old one although I did not test the two side-by-side. So far I have been unable to duplicate the failure that I saw with the previous part, and thus I am cautiously giving the new part a thumbs-up. I recommend anyone else having this issue to go to the dealer and have a new window switch ordered, ensuring that the dealership orders & installs the new part and not the old one.

Pffft passengers. I saved 140lbs in weight by ejecting my wife.

WRXGuy1 04-15-2013 02:10 PM

This annoyed me to no end, I mentioned it to my dealer and will be having it looked at Thursday.

Deepseadiver 04-27-2013 06:08 PM

I hate going to the dealer, might have to suck it up for this new switch. To the OP any issues with the new switch now that it has been in the car for a while?

FirestormFRS 04-27-2013 08:20 PM

On a side note @Subie did you ever get rid of the dreadful 35 and 70mph drone. Mine is still doing it and its tending to get louder now that it has 15k miles

No. I had the differential replaced but the noise didn't go away.

thanks!

hyperpunx 04-27-2013 11:15 PM

any word on the newer part#?

SubaSteve 04-28-2013 12:27 AM

Damn I thought this shit was my fault guess I now know it isn't. I actually accidentally left my windows down at night which my brother caught for me.

Been smashing that shit thinking I was not lifting hard enough. I'll wait till its a tsb seeing as alot of people have issues with it.

It fixes the issue. Everything you need is in the first post.

Wait so is this covered by warranty or are we supposed to buy it ourselves? There's no official TSB as far as I know.

Opie 05-10-2013 02:52 PM

There is a TSB for the Subaru BRZ, it is #07-73-13

Anyone know if you can just go to the dealer to fix it? For Scion...
as in covered under warranty and free.

Jesse 05-11-2013 07:09 PM

Need to get this done

bdanisi 05-13-2013 07:51 PM

I'm at the Toyota dealership right now and the service tech said that's the wrong part number. Did I miss something about this being brz only
Edit shit. Is there a different number for the frs? Cuz I have the shit in my frs as well and the techs here are dumb :-(

The correct Toyota part number is SU003-04628 according to the part I just ordered for myself at work.

Hanakuso 05-21-2013 03:12 PM

I wish they made this a recall instead of the TSB. I rarely use my windows so by the time this problem arises I might be out of warranty

As long as you can duplicate it I'd go ahead and get it fixed. Recalls are significantly more costly than TSBs which is why that won't ever happen.

Here's the actual TSB.

I just got mine replaced and so far it seems to be working consistently.

Jealous! I tried multiple times to get the dealer to fix this and they told me they could not duplicate it. Funny I can get it to do it every time. I'm done with the the dealers here.

I had a nasty argument with Subaru Corp trying to get a dealer 200 miles away to do the work in two days. Needed a few other TSB issues resolved like GPS, rear taillights etc.

Told them I only had those two days to get this done and it would be over a year before I could get the car back to a city with a Subaru dealer. It was the truth. And it worked.

Actually I think the dealer may have broken the rules by ordering my parts ahead of them "verifying" the issues. But I put enough pressure on them and hounded Corporate enough I guess. Also complained about the crappy HU, not sure that went anywhere though.

They ended up only taking about 4 hours to do all the work as well!

Just got my switch changed at toyota (or atleast they said they changed it) and same problem

They told me that this is a known problem and they should be releasing a reflash...

King Tut 07-18-2013 12:18 PM

A reflash, haha. Ask them to show you the old switch if you don't trust them. A reflash will definitely not fix it. The logic is not in the ECU or anything that is "flashable".

Did the paperwork they gave you show the new part number? If they did it right it should, assuming they didn't just throw out the new switch and take their warranty money and run.

Yeah I've never heard of anything like that before. He said he had one guy come in that had his pass window going up and down randomly, even with the car off. He said he came out one morning and the pass window was down. Im guessing the real story was that the auto up didnt work and he thought it did so when he came back out the pass window was still down. Thats def happened to me before I realized there was a problem.

You know what I honestly didnt really look at the paper work because I was pretty annoyed. I also asked them to program the auto off feat for the headlights to 30 secs instead of the full 20 mins that it comes with from factory and they told me they were going to do it, it was on the work order and they didnt do it. So when I decide to go back I'll have them do it for me right on the spot since it only takes a min or so.

When I get off of work Ill check the paperwork and see what it says. I also am probably going to pop off the door panel myself and see if the switch has the new part #.
