Hit by a trash can at Burgerking

I was waiting in the drivethru and an employee tried to get a rolling trash can on a curb right behind me. The can fell over and slammed my car so hard i could feel it. i jumped out as the kid was trying to run inside. he tried to deny he did it until the owner of the BK came outside. they are paying to have it repaired and repainting half the bumper due to two small scratches.

Ouch.

Did they comp your meal too?

mattles 03-07-2013 12:06 PM

cursed dude. We are all cursed.

Chen 03-07-2013 12:08 PM

How does a trash can do that... man...

husker741 03-07-2013 12:09 PM

And I used to think Burger King had the most upstanding citizens as employees. For shame!

Gen 03-07-2013 12:11 PM

I think you'll need more than half the bumper repainted in order for the paint to blend properly.

It was one like this. The car has been at the body shop since Tuesday but they didnt work on it yesterday because of the snow storm. I hope to have it back tomorrow.

Turbowned 03-07-2013 12:39 PM

All these stories are gonna make me never want to drive my car. I'm gonna pick it up from the dealer, drive it to the detailing shop to get a clear bra on it, and then park it in my garage forever, huddling over it with a microfiber cloth and a gun.

gily25 03-07-2013 12:44 PM

I would have been too pissed to eat after that...free food or not...

ThugNasty 03-07-2013 12:44 PM

I woulda beat that kid's ass. Not for damaging the car, accidents happen, but for not manning up and taking responsibility for it. The least he could've done is grow some balls and apologize (and a couple free whoppers wouldn't hurt)
Anyways, sorry about the damage and good luck with the repair.

haha sorry off topic but love your Avatar man, "are you the Asian Justin Timberlake or something?", reminded me of that and cracked me up.

shawnperolis 03-07-2013 02:48 PM

Every time one of these stories pops up I get that much more nervous about driving my car in public.

I know Quick Service Restaurants aren't shining beacons of integrity, but I hope that kid was terminated right then and there for trying to deny causing property damage.

That's what I was thinking. Owning up, admitting the accident? Shit happens. Denying responsibility? Get fired.

For sure. Kids make mistakes but when they are working at a job they need to learn to be a little more professional and take some responsibility for themselves.

Thats what made me so mad. If i would have jumped out and he said im sorry and said he will get his manager I wouldnt have flipped out like I did, but he immediately started to run inside and was like "i did what?" and wouldnt admit it until his boss walked around the corner, he then tried to shake my hand and apologize.

I have mixed feelings about that. I think part of the reason people deny stuff like that is they assume they'll be fired even if it was an honest mistake. Some of my best staff are ones who we've kept around even after they've made a big mistake. They learned that it's not the end of the world, or an automatic pinkslip so they don't try and cover it up the next time.

I will say bravo for the BK owner for taking full responsibility for what his employee did.

I'm sure a valet at a fancy restaurant can do worse.

xxscaxx 03-07-2013 04:38 PM

So much for having it your way..

TennisHsu 03-07-2013 04:53 PM

Laziness and/or status symbol. I will never valet my car, or even my parents cars for that matter. I've heard way too many horror stories. :eyebulge:

FRSnCLN 03-07-2013 05:13 PM

I hear what you're saying, but I don't want any assumptions from my employees. I want them to *KNOW* that they will be terminated if they have no integrity and will try to lie, use deceit, and escape from responsibility the first chance they get.

I also want them to *KNOW* that mistakes happen, and if they man up and take ownership of the responsibility that goes with those mistakes, there's a future for them within my employ.

mkiisupra 03-07-2013 05:51 PM

+1 to the honesty thing...

I was working in the garage a while ago, and saw a small football hit the side of my FR-S after hitting the ground and bouncing to the car. When I went out to get the ball and give it to the neighborhood kids, they SCATTERED. All four of them, even trying to hide behind a bush?!? I walked over, gathered the little ankle-biters, and spoke to them about the poor decision to hide and not fess up about the barely-worthwile mistake. Jeez, what's wrong with confessing to simple mistakes?
