For the 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon set to open on January 13, 2012, Subaru will be displaying two concept versions of the BRZ sports coupe. One concept will be the BRZ STI Concept which has already seen a public debut.

The other will be a new concept - the Subaru BRZ Black Edition by PROVA. PROVA is a tuning company in Japan which has helped Subaru develop race cars in the past.

Subaru will also be using the 2012 TAS to formally announce the BRZ GT3000's entry into next year's Super GT race series, Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) and the Nurburgring 24 Hour race.

For general Subaru fans, Subaru will also be showing a concept which they're calling the Impreza G4 STI. It's based on the JDM-spec Impreza G4 2.0i-S and comes with STI performance parts like a sports exhaust system, suspension strut bar, 18-inch alloy wheels, and new aerodynamic aids.

ZetaVI 12-27-2011 06:27 AM

I didn't expect to hear another concept. They want to give us more and more! Thanks alot Hachi!

tranzformer 12-27-2011 08:40 AM

Awesome Hachi! This is great news. Can't wait.

That's the best news out of all of it if you ask me, can't wait to see the BRZ rally car.

Don't expect to see anything crazy. They're probably just going to run it in Group N / 2WD. On the plus side, the IRC season opener starts on January 18th, so there won't be much of a wait to see it in action.

Syldrin 12-27-2011 11:26 AM

omgosh concept #23,873 is coming out sorry for being cynical just tired of all these teasers. i just want what is left of the facts to come out and not a gabillion concepts.

good find in all hachi. i'm sure i will be just as excited about these as i have been about all the 86 concepts. ;)

Levi 12-27-2011 12:17 PM

WTF! Initially wanting the Toyota, I then decided to get the Subaru. But then because of the TRD program, I again decided to get Toyota. And now I with I may again consider the Subaru. Will I again change my decision?

I am interested in the Impreza G4 STI Concept to wee what treatment they did.

Let us again count how many cars we saw:

Toyota FT-86 Concept
Toyota FT-86 G SPorts Concept
Toyota FT-86 II Concept
Scion FR-S Concept
Subaru BRZ STI Concept
Subaru BRZ BE Concept

:laughabove:

That actually made me laugh..I think by the time it is all said and done a lot of decisions will have to be made

M-17 12-27-2011 12:44 PM

Hmmm, a BRZ Black Edition sports car, now that sounds more to my liking. I hope they don't disappoint on this model.

Syldrin 12-27-2011 12:54 PM

Black edition does that mean its going to produce so much torque that it isnt going to be drivable?

Wow, I think it will be cool to see how PROVA does a BRZ for this show. They are a really great quality company; I doubt this model will make it to the USDM, if any.

"◆ SUBARU BRZ STI CONCEPT (display model)
Under its product concept that "everyone can experience the enjoyable driving", the SUBARU BRZ STI CONCEPT was developed to offer excellent handling performance based on "SUBARU BRZ", a rear-wheel drive sports car featuring the Horizontally-Opposed Boxer engine.
STI tuning and original parts, which include carbon-fiber engine hood and roof, not only achieved an extra weight reduction but also enhanced stable straight-driving and cornering performance. As a result, the car responds exactly to the driver's input.

Carbon Front Hood (Prototype)
STI Flexible Tower Bar (Prototype)
Carbon Roof (Prototype)
STI Low Down Spring (Prototype)
STI Front Under Spoiler (Prototype)
Brembo Brake & Rotor (Prototype)
STI Rear Trunk Spoiler (Prototype)
Bilstein Damper (Prototype)
STI Sport Muffler (Prototype)
STI 18-inch Aluminum Wheel (Prototype)"

I want to know how much of a weight reduction we're talking about here

I don't think those are supposed to be flexible :iono: ;)

chulooz 12-27-2011 03:48 PM

That one is actually flexible by design, JDM only piece though; it wont fit USDM bays.

NorCalRider 12-27-2011 04:28 PM

More great news. Next month is looking good for new info on these cars.

"Flexible Tower Bar"
This totally new concept for a strut tower bar is designed from an aluminum tower bar divided into two segments and joined by a link ball. It disrupts unwanted force applied vertically, such as through gaps in the road surface, by flexibly bridging such force to the left and right sides, and holds strongly against lateral forces. The result is an improvement in riding comfort as well as handling throughout the entire range of steering.

i haven't seen any data on it..actually i cant think of anyone that has. Flexible strut bars have been used in races in the past by other manufacturers during the nur24hour, but iv only seen it has a tri-link to the firewall.

WELL LOOKS LIKE WE GOT AN STI MODEL BRZ COMING, if they are lugging it to TAS, option 2 would be that subaru is the dumbest and biggest bunch of jerks in the world.

Prova sti wheel=Ultra sought after product.

+1.

If both the STI and Black versions do not come stateside and the FRS does not get the the full GT-86 treatment, I think it says a lot about both companies and how they view the US consumer. Is our money not good enough for them?

A majority of Americans want vehicles closer to the 4,000 lbs mark than 2,000, and the #1 motorsport here is NASCAR... what kind of message do you think that sends to manufacturers? :D

WingsofWar 12-27-2011 08:31 PM

it means the brz is unamerican and supports terrorism

Cars in the US are generally cheaper. Toyota and Subaru have to price it competively in the states. If they can't do that, then there's no point in bringing it over. They will lose money and no business would be willing to do that.

It's the main reason why the Scion is coming over as a low-spec version because not a lot of people will pay 28k+ for this type of car. It's the reason why Honda does'nt bring the Type-R versions of their cars (with th exception of the Acura Integra Type-R). It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Toyota and Subaru do the same.

RRnold 12-27-2011 09:25 PM

mmm Black Edition!! :D

 my sides hurt after this comment....How did you get so smart :D

I do understand the whole price point issue, but they could consider offering these types of versions in limited production and at a premium, so the people who are willing to pay have an opportunity to get one.

Rant over... Stand down the drone attack.

I believe it is expensive for a company to bring a car like this over to USDM due to cost of getting it certified for emissions and crash safety. I have not clue on the actual costs, but for a special version of a limited production niche car it might not be feasible. Partly the reason Subaru still has not brought over their diesel boxer engines.

Ok, I agree with most of the responses to my original post, but this point makes no sense, since the BRZ appears to be coming in a Hi Spec version (limited).
Subaru would not do that from a business perspective unless they thought they could move some inventory.

Scion is potentially not offering Hi-spec because of their target market, not because people are not willing to pay. Maybe they will change their image and deliver both low and Hi spec. - jury is still out at this point.
