So how many people?

How many people have actually had the windshield of their FRS or BRZ crack? Today I was driving home from work and heard the sound of a little rock hit the windshield. I didn't expect it to be a big crack at the top of my windshield when I got out but it was and after searching on the forum i've seen a good bit of others with the same problem.

I've got a big chip, and will need a new screen eventually..

zooki 03-06-2013 09:34 PM

I've had my windshield replaced already. Caught a rock right at the edge on the glass and it split halfway across the driver's side at eye level.

Mine spiderwebbed within a month. The perils of a car a foot off the ground

Pretty much this. You can't have a car this low used for did duty and not expect things like this.

SloS13 03-07-2013 07:45 AM

Only a matter of time for me. So far I've gotten a chip. My daily commute covers some notoriously debris-filled interstate.

Carbon420 03-07-2013 08:52 AM

I've had no problems so far and I'm in a city notorious for cracked windshields. I've had more than a few hits but no damage yet thank god. My saturn sc2 was the same way. Got hit all the time but never had a chip or crack.

No problems so far, but I do worry sometimes being so low. Fortunately my insurance covers glass replacement with little deductible and no rate increase, so that eases my mind a little...lol

Man - these stories are just crazy and they don't make much sense either. The backward rake or our windscreen is pretty steep which should really help in negating the force of the impact (compared to say the near vertical windshield on a pick-up truck or something where you see cracks all the time).

I wonder if our glass is thinner compared to other vehicles to further save weight and as such more susceptible to cracks.

I've taken some serious hits to my last car's ws with barely a chip. I don't want to be buying new glass every few years.

Haven't had any issues at all with mine so far. Only windshield I've ever had to replace was in a Lotus which ran a cool 2 grand. I'm guessing the glass for this car is far cheaper.

NemeGuero 03-07-2013 12:08 PM

Got a chip last week.

zaptorque 03-07-2013 01:35 PM

I've got a wittle baby chip from some construction truck

CA2 03-07-2013 02:00 PM

I got three decent chips on the FR-S windshield within the first 2 months. My previous car got 2 chips in 6 years.

ilpad 03-07-2013 02:03 PM

An cop passed me at roughly 90mph and put a crack in my windshield the first day I got the car. Its right dead smack in the middle of my eye line too, so one of these days ill be replacing it. Too many things I need to do still, so its a back-burner issue atm.

gusbarragan 03-07-2013 02:10 PM

I feel like there are way too many cases of the windshield cracking on the car. Regardless of how low it is the window should hold up more than it is. That was the first time something hit my windshield and it just split.

IloveBaldEagles 03-07-2013 07:22 PM

I've had mine replaced twice!

lazyluka 03-07-2013 07:31 PM

Had mine replaced after 1 month of ownership....

I remember reading this in another thread about cracked windshields. Apparently it is thinner then the average windshield.

I got a very, very small chip in my windshield. It takes me a minute or 2 to find it, but it is there. It didn't crack the windshield, just chipped it.

Really? what is going on with these windshields? I contacted Scion today and am supposed to get in touch with someone higher up tomorrow. Im hoping to get it replaced and see if it will fall under faulty workmanship or faulty product under the warranty. I do not see how not, especially seeing as its obviously a good bit of people.

DookDookDGM 03-07-2013 09:10 PM

already got a tiny chip in mine. it's hard to spot, but -I- know it is there.

First was during the first snow in VA. A rock mixed in snow flew off the road and hit my windshield. The second was a bird. Yep...

Bonburner 03-08-2013 02:07 PM

I got a lot of little chips here and there

so26 03-08-2013 03:46 PM

Had two small chips/cracks and had Safelite fill them in and my insurance covered the cost.

marky 03-08-2013 04:12 PM

Have like 2 small dings but filled it.. I always look way ahead if im right behind a dirt hauler truck to avoid rocks as much as possible..

But yeah oem windshield seems too fragile:bonk: maybe its made of a lighter materials to save weight idk:offtopic:
My 94 integra windshield took a good beating better..I did get one dime size rock hit me on my Integra that sounded like a gun shot when I was in the freeway..rang my ears..

Karrezza 04-04-2013 04:03 PM

Got a chip and crack last week, that my Jetta and Corolla would have shaken off. But it cracked down about 20 inches, in 2 minutes. It chipped up in the faux visor area so I did not see chip from inside of car. I thought I was ok. WRONG.
Safelite made appt, had part.. so they thought! Kinda need the moulding too!

l0aded 04-04-2013 04:42 PM

two baby chips. hardly noticable to anyone but me

sho220 04-04-2013 05:01 PM

Just a matter of time. I usually have at least one windshield replaced every year. Luckily my insurance covers 100% cost of windshield replacement...
