Should I get the car now?
I've been looking for a while and I think I've settled on getting the BRZ version. I've read the forum and it seems like there are a lot of issues with the car since it is a new model. Does the 2013 version have less issue than the 2012? Also, I really like the STI/TRD edition that comes out in 2014, should I actually wait for that?
|
The car never came out as 2012. Wait where did you see that there's going to be an STI/TRD version on 2014?

Bottom line is that you should wait. The new information regarding the 2014 should be out any day and that will empower you with more information to make a comprehensive decision. -Nate |
I don't have any problems I got my BRZ in December just chirping but that's going to be replaced by dealer anyways
|
Got mine in October and no issues........knock on wood

Cars only ever get better. If you can, do. If you can't, don't. The longer you wait the "better" it will get as far as availability, price, options, accessories, standard equipment, etc...

Also the earlier you get the car, the more time you have to enjoy it as a "new" car. |

Thanks for all the replies, I thought it was released last year, I guess it was the 2013. I really can't decide because I currently have a very old integra and it really needs to be replaced soon. is there any info about when 2014 would be released?

I am in the same postion. I am ready to place an order for a limited yet something tells me to hold tight for the '14 release.
Worse case scenario is to dive into the warranties like the bunch, worse yet trade it up for the updates if anything truly is resolved. Though my gut says order now, enjoy, and worry about the small stuff down the road |
I ask myself this everyday, and I'm just about ready to pull the trigger. But perhaps I need a little self control since I just paid off my student loans, no need to jump right into car payments as soon as I get into a clean slate....yeah well see how long that last @Beyer Subaru I might come see you soon XD

There will always be teething issues on a new model of a new car. Some worse than others. All in all the issues on the twins don't seem to be too bad (I've had zero problems myself). My '90 Miata was a 1st year model and it is still running great 24 years later. I'd say get it now, the warranty will take care of any new model issues, and you get to enjoy driving a great car instead of playing the waiting game.
|
Unless something new is guaranteed right around the corner (like buying a iPhone in September when I know the new one will be anounced a month later) I wouldn't hesitate to buy something ASAP. You'll never be future proofed forever, so just forget about it and enjoy yourself now.

If I'd waited for the 2007 STi, I woulda gotten it less high-wing and all of the goodies in the Limited Edition. If I'd waited for the 2008 STi, I woulda gotten a hatch. Where my heart really was all along. But I got the '04 and enjoyed everyday that I had it for over 7 years. The only time this doesn't make sense is if a vehicle dies. A la Saabaru. If I'd wanted a "new" 06 I woulda been SOL as it only ran for 04-05MY's. Quote:

Eclipse - The 4G63 was the only reason to own one of the triplets (Laser,Talon). DSM got lucky with this one. Mitsu is an all around failing Mfr that will never amount to much. The Eclipse sucked then and it still sucks. 3 Series - E30 to E36. Sure. From an all out Auto-X or Track standpoint. I don't know if you've noticed or not but BMW is a luxury brand with performance injected into their models. Have you seen the interiors of new BMW's? Or tech specs? These cars have definitely gotten better with age from a luxury standpoint. Mustang - It has been around since 64-1/2. It is one of Ford's oldest nameplates that is still on the road. It gets better every year. I would put a new GT500/KR/SS,etc against any old model any day of the week. Muscle Cars - Really? We're goin there? Ok. Here's one for you - [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nAx2jtr3K8"]Autocross: Honda Odyssey Vs Dodge Charger Daytona - YouTube[/ame] There is no way that you could beat the all metal styling of an old muscle car. But any new version SRT, SS, Cobra, etc would beat the piss out of your old muscle cars with looks, performance, convenience, comfort, safety, etc.. Mazda MX-5 - This is the best selling sports car in history as stated by Guiness. So I don't really know where your going here? Is it larger, safer, more comfortable, more efficient, etc.? Yes. That's the point of evolution with autos. Your opinion - Cars get worse, they should stay the same or we should be able to buy a brand new 50 year old car. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.) My opinion - Cars will only ever get better with time. Examples include the following: Aesthetics Comfort Convenience NVH Standard Equipment Optional Equipment Safety Mileage Reliability Maintenance |
Subaru already corrected the earlier problems (ie. GPS, condensation, chirping) in the current BRZ.
Here is the list of the TSB at the time I went to pick up my car. My BRZ had serial 42xx, so in theory these problems should not occur in the later 2013 models. Revised GPS Antenna / Mounting Bracket Assembly (D*603651) Software (D*603932) High Pressure Fuel Pump (D*603383) Engine #(84658) 7/27/2012 Taillight condensation (D*601678) 5/9/2012 Popping sound (D*602788) July 1, 2012 |

Get it now while it's still winter. When the weather gets warmer in the rest of the country, these cars will be near-impossible to find.

You just listed out a bunch of cars that changed greatly over long time cycles. The op isnt waiting for the next generation of the car to come out. While you may feel all those cars got worse, you didn't bother pointing out why you feel they are not as good. Once again, as a disinterested party, I feel that nearly everything you listed has gotten better in any measurable category. You didn't do a good job making your point or rationalizing your argument. :happy0180: |

He thought i said every car ever made is going to get worse through time, when i was simply pointing out that some cars do get worse through time and some don't. The new MX-5 is more heavy, less driver oriented then the early ones. The 3 series is less driver oriented as well, before it was a luxury "drivers car", now you could argue its just a luxury car. The number of the 3 series being sold are dropping, i'd argue because the old ones were better. The mustang and most muscle cars got worse after 73 due to the gas crisis, this shows that sometimes world events can change cars for better or worse, in this case, worse. That poster then compared handling and power, which is something i wasn't even touching on at the moment, of course a modern day car is going to handle then a 40 year old car, thats plain god damn sense. And muscle cars aren't even about handling, who the hell buys a muscle cars for corners? Which is why the OP should just take some "brave pills" and buy the car, because no one here really does know the future of this car or hoo the 2nd gen (if there is one) will be like. Did i satisfy your damn "parties"? |

You're missing the fact that we're not talking about an updated model but the incremental MY improvements. |

should probably wait for the 2021 model which will be all electric and close to 900hp

Ion Redline 04-07
'05 Ion Redline introduced a "Competition Package" that included a boost gauge, gunmetal wheels, and an LSD.* '07 Ion Redline axed the Recaros due to some bs about the passenger airbag sensor. You win some, you lose some. |

For reference, All of our recent Factory Orders are now showing an April ETA. This goes against what my Distribution Office stated months ago (about specific orders) but it's also fairly in-line with when they described the MY change over. |

Unless your car is unsafe to drive, wait. An order placed now is going to take a few months to arrive. An order placed in say 2 months for a 2014 with the incremental improvements means you are looking at an extra 2 month wait. I wouldn't roll the dice now on the assumption that no significant incremental improvements are going to happen next model year, given the on-the-record comments by the Toyota chief GT86 engineer that they plan to follow the GTR practice of incremental yearly upgrades.

I've got a year long bet with one of the guys at my store that the 2014 Outback will have some changes. Only time will tell. Either way, 3,4,5 months away. It's not that far off. If the OP can wait, then wait. Even if they only change a lug nut, something will change. If you're like me and you just wanna drive the car, buy it. |
I really really want to wait, but my old integra is going at 240k miles. I don't know how much more it can take before something else breaks again.
|
I think the hardest part of this is the fear that something you want comes on the car, or something unknown is fixed. because you can never be to sure these days, for example that MY12 civic, MY13 is a much better car. And not to mention all these recalls happening left and right these day. Its so hard to be an informed buyer.
