This is what i get for going in on my day off (curse strikes again)

so my 3rd run of the night, i'm coming back to the store. stop at a red light to turn left onto the highway. as i'm stopped, i see a pair of headlights coming up on me pretty fast, hear tires squeeling, then crunch.

(if you wanna use mapquest, Clanton road/77 interchange eastbound clanton, southbound 77)

2005 tahoe
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/...psf9aab4e7.jpg

car i've owned for a freaking MONTH
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/...pse24d1695.jpg

ATM i'm okay, sore, shaky, but hopefully that's all it ends up being. no concusion, but the trunk/rear is a loss. suprisingly, the tail lights are still okay (and probably STILL won't get condensation in em :p )

i'll get better pics during the day. also: he was insured fortunately

Wow. glad to see youre alright. Did the airbags go off? Anything else bashed up besides the rear end? Hows the rear diff and suspension holding up?

campy 02-27-2013 11:22 PM

Man I need to get one of these truck-based SUVs. Everytime I see one involved in a wreck, the car is destroyed and the suv is fine.

no airbags, backup lights fell out of their spot and were dragging on the ground, trunk is squished, bumper is jacked, and it looks like the hood scratched (hopefully that's all it did) the side above the passanger side light.

OrbitalEllipses 02-27-2013 11:52 PM

I'm staggered that people hit other people at red lights. You didn't see the brake lights OR the traffic signal? Last time I was in an accident I didn't sleep for days, be well goose.

hobojoker 02-27-2013 11:58 PM

Because the truck holds up better, it transfers more of the forces of the accident to the driver. The reason that the BRZ crumples up so significantly is it absorbs the energy of the crash so that occupants do not.

Also, height/weight difference.

If you ever install a hitch on a car a get rear ended... you'll see almost zero damage on the car/truck with hitch and the car that hit it is destroyed.

Lonewolf 02-28-2013 12:04 AM

Sorry to see this...

I was in a similar situation more than a decade ago. I was rear-ended at a stoplight...and was only sore with a headache that first night...the next day was baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadddddddddddddd.

More than 10 years later I still have neck and back pain from my accident...make sure that you are thoroughly checked out by docs...

bestwheelbase 02-28-2013 12:13 AM

@wrxgoose glad you're okay! Nasty hit. Condensation jokes take courage. :D

Did the truck driver indicate why he was not able to stop? Texting and driving?

wrxgoose 02-28-2013 12:22 AM

He said he tried to stop but couldnt. Something up with his brakes. I call BS. If something was up with his hrakes why go so fast then lock em up?

BlaineWasHere 02-28-2013 12:35 AM

Good luck! hopefully the car survives. looks like it might.

kanundrum 02-28-2013 12:40 AM

Glad your alright, its only a car when it comes down to it man. Now its time to get a CF trunk and some other goodies courtesy of insurance, think of it as a forced chance to mod

I had an acquaintance in college who called tow hitches "sports car radiator removers" for this reason.

Giccin 02-28-2013 12:57 AM

Oh no... all of a sudden your back hurts... and your neck and your arms.

I say milk him. Stupid/inattentive drivers need to be freaking fined.

I almost got T-boned because some douche ran a left red light. Old man had NO regard for anyone's safety.

Also almost got hit on the freeway/highway because some dumbass teenager didn't check his blind spot. He just went 2 lanes without looking at all.

kanundrum 02-28-2013 01:04 AM

Car pushed me into a wall at 70, spent 3 months in therapy getting feeling in my left side back. I am getting my motherfking movie check for sure

BRZPDX 02-28-2013 02:14 AM

sucks bro.. On the bright side, free Seibon CF Trunk with duck lip!! Kick those tail lights and get smoked after market ones while you're at it.

That's how my buddy got a full body kit on a 96 Prelude back in high school lol

You'd be surprised. My BRZ was rear ended at a stoplight. Reason? The lady who hit me said she heard someone honk. So basically her first instinct on hearing a horn is to automatically press the accelerator without even looking at what's ahead first.

Shagaliscious 02-28-2013 06:43 AM

Wow, that sucks. Glad to hear you are OK.

That's what I did when I got rear ended. My back was honestly messed up for a bit. I had to get some physical therapy.

You should always get checked out by the hospital for posterity, as denying medical attention at the time of the accident will greatly reduce your ability to get medical coverage funds from insurance after the fact.

What do you mean third run? Are you using your car as a delivery vehicle?

Airbags won't deploy in most rear end collisions, except for in the car that does the hitting. It's the deceleration that triggers the airbag.

I got hit in exactly the same way, except with a lot less force. It was a Chevy Cavalier or something, and the contact area was the flat black plastic. The crash bar under the plastic is bent a bit, but there's hardly a mark on the bumper. The impact felt pretty solid, but I don't think I had my foot on the brake at the time, which probably helped.

Hopefully that one fulfills the curse for me.

Spd229 02-28-2013 09:41 AM

@wrxgoose

man, I'm sorry about that. You were excited as hell to get that car and to have this happen sucks...the worst I've had is someone spitting on the car or putting something on it....I really don't care to figure out what odd liquid they put on the car given that my coating laughed at it;well, that and drawing a d!ck on the rear windshield lol

Hopefully she's back up and going soon though and everything works out well for you, and hopefully no lingering effects on your body show up. I see people driving and looking down at their phones all the damned time, it's pretty infuriating and is possibly what the moron was doing before they hit you.

Funny you say that, I remember having to honk at someone as she was about to run a stop sign and nail me. What did she immediately do? Hit the gas and ran right into me.

@wrxgoose
Sorry to hear about this, glad you are alright though.

yeah. car is paid in full, so why shouldn't i take the chance to drive it every day? makes delivering pizzas alot more fun that it would be normally

something incredibly stupid by my work, because i have been in an accident, i need to now get drug tested. i was sitting stopped at a red light, but i gotta get tested? seriously? fucking retarded

Most employers do this to justify not having to pay workers comp incase of any injurty. I cut my hand open once and needed stiches. Had to get drug tested. Its a way for them to fire you if you test positive and avoid any backlash via employee regulations. Also voids any agreements for workers compensation/emergency room fees, etc...

wrxgoose 02-28-2013 12:06 PM

still stupid, considering many of our deliveries are to places where we get hit with a wall of pot smoke. it's just a mouth swab, so that shouldn't matter though

rhoyle 02-28-2013 12:06 PM

You should drive your car however, wherever, and for whatever you want. I'm not judging (but I suspect a lot of folks will). I was asking more in regards to the liability. If you're an employee (sounds like you are since there's a drug test), then I wonder who's insurance is on the hook - yours or the companies. Do you live in a No-Fault state?

I'm not a lawyer or an insurance agent, but I would make sure that you sort that out with one or both before you come out of pocket or report anything to your insurance.

Also, I hope the drug test is a non-issue for you.

Yea. I was rear ended by a teen who wasn't paying attention. My back actually got pretty messed up. I had to get an MRI showing parts of my thoracic and lumbar vertebrae being slightly misaligned. Also had craaaaaaazy muscle spasms which cause problems later on too.

So how bad was your back bdub? It was bad enough to go to PT but in a sense of how your muscles and spine where.

wrxgoose 02-28-2013 12:27 PM

bout to go deal with insurance, then possibly med clinic (my physician retired) and then over to regional office.

and yeah, the drug test should be a non issue, just depends on how ensitive it is, because like i said, we'll deliver to lots of people who got the munchies, and their places are still filled with pot smoke

pjb86 02-28-2013 12:49 PM

Don't take any pains lightly, get them all checked out.
A woman pulled out in front of me from between stopped cars, hit her doing about 50mph , wrote of my 11 day old FRS , thought I wasn't to bad off till my doc sent me for a bone scan and I had a fractured t12 vertebra. 6 months later I still can't work.

My back was just sore and ached when I was sitting down. The doctor said I basically sprained my back from the force of the collision. After a few weeks of PT, it was fine. It wasn't too bad luckily.

Giccin 02-28-2013 02:58 PM

Annnnnyywayys.

@wrxgoose If you remember this thread http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...unlucky+sunday you can join our club of hit cars. Lol

zoomzoomers 02-28-2013 03:07 PM

Sorry to hear, but glad you're not seriously hurt.

Lesson? Most people shouldn't be allowed to drive. Or at least toughen up our testing standards like Europe or something.

The testing probably isn't your work's requirement, it's your work's insurance's requirement.

I had a similar situation a few years ago, leaving a pizza delivery job and going into another. No issues at all with a urine test, even after spending hours at a pothead friend's house a day or two before (drug test was not expected). As long as you're not letting them hotbox your car every time you deliver a pizza it won't be a problem.

You'll be fine, don't sweat it.

Pretty much. John (store manager) was saying that too. "Man, you come in to help us put on your day off, and now you cant drive until atleast monday"

And i have no idea what im gonna do all weekend. Ashe has to work more (might be getting her own store) so wont get to spend time with her, might have to go back to Steam, and see what games work on my old computer. Oh yeah, my laptop died earlier this week, too.

Fuck this week
