OEM Audio Plus; Worth it?

As the title states. Is it worth the $1,100 upgrade?

I saw that, but I'm wondering if its more beneficial to get aftermarket stuff. That seems pretty pricey. Would aftermarket speakers and subs void any warranty?

Foobar 02-27-2013 05:37 PM

No voiding any warranty unless they do something that can be proven detrimental to something else that breaks, and then it would simply be a declined warranty claim on whatever broke.

As to your question, is it more beneficial to get aftermarket stuff? Technically, this is aftermarket, but I hear what you're saying - the answer, unfortunately, is "It depends."

If you want a simple turnkey solution that sounds pretty good and plugs and plays, then yeah - the OEM Audio+ is worth it.

Will a custom job at $1100 be a better solution? It could be - depends on your priorities. A custom job will be tailored to your exact specifications. If you know exactly what you want and where you want it, then go custom. If you just want a good sounding system that plugs in with relative ease and you've got $1100 to spend on it, then this is a perfectly valid option.

For a turn key solution it sounds pretty solid. @MiniGuy has it install on his and I got to check it out. Only thing is I really don't like the oem hu at all and don't care enough about audio these days tho just switch to a aftermarket hu made the audio sound better imo

Mine is coming with the BeSpoke. I know a lot of people don't like it but I think it just looks a lot better than the stock hu. I think I'm gonna go with the OAP.

Bespoke ain't bad I just couldn't justify spending 700 on a hu that does have navi or backup cam in place.

The install and sub encloure is really clean.nk problems getting to the spare or anything I deff like the OAP just rather spend the money on other goodies

Yea I'm contemplating where I wanna spend my money first. Audio or exhaust? I already have the Beat-Sonic backup camera shipped.

I thinks so, aiming to get one.

husker741 02-28-2013 01:58 AM

I'm gonna put it off right now and go for the exhaust first. It sucks that there are so many things I wanna do to the car, but I'm going to college and need money for at least ramen noodles.

Yea I found it for 975. I just am gonna hold off for now. I figure that I can live with the stock stereo for right now, while I really want to make the exhaust sound better.

New question:

If I buy the OEM Plus 400 system and have the dealer install it before delivery, is it covered under my car's warranty because Scion supports it?

From their FAQ:

Does my factory warranty get affected by installing your product?

No. Factory Warranty is not effected if installation is followed according to OEM Audio Plus installation guidelines. All OEM Audio Plus components meet OEM specifications and include 3 year/36,000 mile warranty when installed by an Authorized Dealer. If you opt to DIY there is a 1 year warranty.

You will be amazed at how much better your OEM system sound just by swapping out the headunit.. I think both the bespoke and the non-bespoke units have pretty unflat and distorted signal in the first place.. my pioneer receiver hooked up to the factory amp was a vast improvement.

With the OEM plus package, the midbass are maintained, only the tweets are upgraded, and of course there is the subwoofer.. I could imagine that the DSP plays a big role in improving sound quality as well. Mind you, none of the components from the OEM plus are really "high quality parts", but the packaged price is hard to beat for a measurable improvement.

I'd been going back and forth about this upgrade too and came to the conclusion I don't need it. I'm a pretty big audiophile, but I also know that engine noise, exhaust noise, and road noise often make high end car audio systems kind of pointless. The factory speakers provide adequate sound, it just needs some oomph from a big sub. I'm sure the 8" in the OEM 400 sounds good, but it's just not going to hit like a 10 or 12 does. And when you're driving, there's so much interference noise that the difference in quality is hard to notice; especially if you have an exhaust and/or no sound-deadening material.

As good as I'm sure the OAP kit sounds, I think my personal needs are better met with a 10" trunk box for 1/3 the cost.
