where's the aftermarket headlights?

So there's plenty of aftermarket tail lights out there now but where's the love for the headlights? if someone made a simple plug and play direct swap for the frs at a fair price that looked a bit nicer like the EDM ones, they'd be selling like crazy.

SkullWorks 02-27-2013 11:37 AM

There is alot of testing and liability in headlights, they have to have significantly better optics than tail lights and they are more closely policed than tail-lights as far as compliance to local regulations (DOT TUV whatever)

You can order all of the OEM lights from Japanese manufactures and TYC actually has them for sale right now. Looks like 400ish after shipping. Look on JapanParts.com

NemeGuero 02-27-2013 01:25 PM

^ he said headlights.

I don't see them anymore... They had them and all the TRD super expensive parts like brakes. The headlights were ~400 a piece. Only thing I see now is Evasivemotorsports and nigelparts. I have heard of someone ordering the lights from their local dealership though. Not 100% on where though.

Screw aftermarket headlights. Euro/JDM spec headlights are freakin amazing.

abutterman 02-27-2013 02:57 PM

i do like the look of the euro headlights but not for some ridiculous price and having to rewire the things. If someone was to clone them and make them a direct swap, i'd be real interested.

SkullWorks 02-27-2013 03:03 PM

glad to see the community taking safety and other drivers comfort into account and not going full rice....

Oh wait...NVM

Cheap is best right?

Oh? And how, good sir, do you think this could be accomplished?

simple.. make headlights that look the same or similar or even completely different but looks nicer and use the stock fr-s connectors. there's aftermarket headlights for hundreds of other cars that accomplish this and for real low prices, sometimes in the $200 range for the set.

infinite012 02-27-2013 03:41 PM

Go for it. Instead of sitting and whining, make it. Then sell the design to a company and have them reverse engineer your bastard headlights.

The most useful comment was already given to you by whoever suggested getting GT86 or BRZ headlights and wiring them up. If you don't want to do a little bit of rewiring, then this isn't the modification for you.

abutterman 02-27-2013 03:51 PM

i was simply wondering about the possibility of it being developed or if it's already being developed by someone or any information at all. no need for the smart ass remarks.

Read the thread title.

eddieEndo 02-28-2013 02:13 AM

cheap aftermarket headlights are a terrible way to go with cheap seals, terrible projectors (if they even use projectors) , and plastic lenses that will fade and bubble within a couple years (learned from firsthand experience) best option other than gt86/brz lights are a retrofit... im not retrofitting as im really really certain i want gt86 lights

I was giving a secondary option. I said OEM in the first post I made.

FasterpromsFRS 02-28-2013 09:51 AM

i bought new headlights for my benz, the florida sun melted them within a year and a half, stuck the stocks back in, never had an issue. Those headlights werent cheap either.

Just ignore them.

I know exactly what you mean and I've been wondering about the same thing. So many people want to get rid of the ugly chrome housing our cars came with and it appears that the only alternative is to custom paint it (which I have no balls or skills to do) or go all out and retrofit, and with my technical skills - forget about it.

I would think a lot of companies will look into this and find an opportunity to capitalize on the demand for a more affordable and practical alternative.

Rick
