Wait until June for delivery?
Looks like I'm going to be waiting until June for delivery of my BRZ. Has anyone else had to wait 3-4 months to get their car? Is this normal?
I ordered a Galaxy Blue Limited w/ an Automatic. Didn't expect it to be that hard to get. |
Seems like ATs are pretty scarce. There are 15 or so BRZs in stock around me, 2 of which are Automatic. Add in the specific color/trim options and I'd say it's a possibility it may take that long.
Personally, at that point, I'd just hold off for a 2014. |

3-4 months is better than 8. I ordered a WRB Limited 6MT back in July, and it's going to finally be delivered mid-March.

If you have any interest in the dealer specifics, PM me and I'm happy to share. It's tough to wait that long, and unfortunately it doesn't sound like the wait times will be getting any shorter anytime soon for a BRZ (seems like FR-S's are a little easier to come by). Good luck! |

It's weird seeing all these waiting threads, though. The dealer I purchased mine had 5 on the lot at the time. One week later, there was another to replace the one I took. Same in NJ, almost every dealer has some kind of on hand inventory. |
Yep, the average wait here is about 6-8 months. Strong on the 8 month side of things.
If it is expected to arrive in June, it might come as a 2014MY. When I talked to my Distribution Office a few months ago, they expected some of our orders (arriving in June/July) to turn into 2014MY orders. |
I'd be fine with a 2014! Wouldn't be the first year anymore but maybe some of the kinks would be worked out. My major concern is taxes. I'm selling my R53 Mini next month and have 180 days to replace it to claim it for sales tax purposes.

Are these 6-8 month waits for exact vehicle choices? In other words are there at least some sitting on lots in VA and MO, just not specific color/trims?? It took me 7 dealers to find the color/options I wanted, and I got stuck with the stupid compass mirror and rear defuser, but I eventally settled. Is this the case with the majority of wiat listers or are there really zero BRZs sitting on lots down there? |
The initial allotment of BRZ's from May-November of 2012CY was directly proportional to the amount of WRX/STi's that were sold previously. Meaning that areas like the Northeast that sell rediculous amounts of WRX/STi's are now inundated with BRZ's that they can't sell because they are currently buried in snow.
Areas like Florida that is a "new" market for Subaru are having to buy cars from the Northeast by the truckload to meet their demand. It was a very skewed and incorrect plan of attack on Subaru's part. |
I waited 5 months for mine. ordered August 2012 and received in January 2013

I agree. I don't think I'm asking for to much. Galaxy Blue, Automatic, Limited. The dealer did have a Galaxy Blue w/ a manual on the lot but it sold not long after I placed my order. Current trend is the cars sell in 2-3 days after they're on the lot here in STL. |
check cars.com every day. Found mine after 2 weeks. I got myself the GBS auto after 2 weeks of searching. Keep in mind, it might be out of state, but you'll find more options in regards to inventory.
|
Yes, the regional rep told us the wait time would be 3-6 months, and the longer wait time would come the later we waited to place orders. This is in New England where we actually get lots of BRZ's for no intelligent reason.
|
GBS isn't exactly a common color. But yeah, check further north and maybe you'll get lucky. Then you can break it in on the trip home.
|
GBS,LR, and SSM are really uncommon there's just not that many of them. and if there are it's in a single area and not the other. WRB are starting to be harder a find too, but if you don't care and just want a BRZ they're plenty of SWP and CBS all around. Good luck with your car and that's a beautiful color to pick :)

I ordered a GBS manual last Friday and I was told that it would be a June Delivery as well.
|
I would just locate one and go get it. There are lots out there now. The dealer I bought from paid for my plane fare, first class no less. The bonus of driving a long way back is it is broken in when you get home. I drove from CO to MN.

DGM-Auto-5 months, but worth the wait!
|
Yup. No new news here. I pre-ordered mine last Feb 2012 and didn't get delivery until June 2012. Looks like you're in the same boat as me. And looks like Subaru is still strugling on meeting customer demand as when the car was first launched last year.
Same color too. I got manual thought; not auto. |

Yes, I am sure everyone that made an order waited a good deal of time. Other people just sniped dealers within a 500 mile radius and drove to pick theirs up.
|
If you happened to watch the BBC version of Top gear last week, one of the guys made the comment that the cars are produced on a 9 to 1 ratio so that for every 9 Toyota/Scion built, one BRZ is produced. Not sure this has been confirmed 100% but that would also make them a longer wait.
If someone can find you one in the color and options you want and it's below sticker, I'd jump on it. :party0030: |
Ordered a DGM Auto contract accepted October 2nd 2012, delivery date now showing as June 7th 2013 that's a 8 month wait. My initial order showed a 13 month wait but extra cars were allocated to bring it back to 8 months. I think you guys in the States do not know how well off you are! We also have a head office only ordering system in Australia so no dealer shopping around allowed on the BRZ.

OP if you're interested in a GBS Limited 6AT from out of state. I know a dealer who has one in stock now and at under invoice. I was going to get it but switched to SSM 6MT instead :) shoot me a PM

I ordered my WRB MT on Dec 28th and got it mid Feb. It was originally scheduled for delivery in May. You might get lucky.

My dealer is performing a dealer trade with Lou Fusz Subaru I believe. They are sending down a Dark Gray Metallic MT and bringing me back the WRB LT AT. Just got the call this morning that the DGM or SSM (idk???) arrived here last night. I can have the car as soon as Saturday, if the dealers are still playing nice. :) |

Wait, what? That's who I've ordered my car through! (Lou Fusz in Creave Cour) Didn't know they had a WRB Auto on the lot. You'd have thought they might have called and asked if I'd take it. |
i ordered my WRB Blue Manual beginning of January and they called me yesterday saying i could pick it up saturday... SO STOKED since they originally told me i would have to wait till May.

I'll keep suggesting it, consider an out of state purchase there are plenty readily available in CO. All should be more than willing to sell you a car well below MSRP.
Ridiculous amount of galaxy blues too. Groove Subaru Shortline Subaru Heuberger Motors Go Subaru |
You know what surprised me, is CARMAX seems to be getting some units of BRZ and FRS and they sell at that no Haggle Price. In fact I seen some FRS in a carmax lot and their NEW. Although I'm not sure on how they vary in price. I haven't confirmed on the BRZ part of this equation.

I might have to do that. The buyer of my Mini takes delivery in about 3 weeks. If I haven't heard anything by then I'll start looking outstate. Ironically enough I bought my Mini from a private party in Dayton, OH and flew up to take delivery so this wouldn't be my first time doing something like that. Doesn't seem like Fusz is really willing to throw any "perks" into the equation anyway like free oil changes.

Or look for another color with a MT, and learn to drive stick. |
I happened to nab one as it was coming in. Only had to wait a few days.

Oh, I can drive stick. That's not the problem at all. My 94 NA Solo2 Spec Miata and my R53 Cooper S were both manuals, as were my first two Wranglers. This will be my daily driver. One of my main reasons for ditching the Cooper is getting tired of rush hour traffic with a manual transmission. I'm not complaining about the wait honestly. Was just curious if this was "normal." Hearing about how Subi decided to distribute thier cars does make sense. Honestly, if I can save a couple grand buying out of state that's something to consider as none of the local dealers seem willing to haggle or throw in any dealer perks. |
