The "Subaru fender stripe"

Do you think the BRZ will fall victim to the wanna-be grand sport stripe fad that a lot of Subaru owners have picked up?

chulooz 12-20-2011 10:52 AM

That is one of the first Subaru's I have seen with that. I have NEVER seen one in person, and I live in CT.

JDLM 12-20-2011 10:54 AM

Oh yeah? Seems that they are all over the place and even falling to the BMW crowd now...

Syldrin 12-20-2011 10:54 AM

there was a huge subie following in CO when i lived there and i have never seen that thing on a subbie. hopefully that fad stays on just those cars.

MrVito 12-20-2011 11:02 AM

Lot of Scoobies here too, never seen it. Maybe it's a Kansas thing.

chulooz 12-20-2011 11:05 AM

That is not a local car I pulled the image off of google, I have seen numerous pics around the net and on NAISOC

VenomRush 12-20-2011 11:10 AM

yea, never seen it in my life... i see at least 3 sti's everyday around here

Dave-ROR 12-20-2011 11:10 AM

I've never seen one like that either. Are you sure you aren't blowing the fad out of proportion?

Could very well be :bellyroll: it just seems like when I was in the mood to hunt down a WRX I would come upon a "meet" pic and I thought I was looking at Corvettes

Snoopyalien24 12-20-2011 11:13 AM

Yeah, I've never seen the whole stripes thing. Even at meets and stuff, never seen it.

Longhorn248 12-20-2011 11:14 AM

The only time I've seen fender stripes like that was on a buddy's Pontiac GTO. Wasn't the original intention of racing stripes to identify to other drivers on the track that you're a noob?

jonnyquest 12-20-2011 11:15 AM

Never seen that and im so stoked I haven't. I really hope that never catches on.

Yeah I traced the origins back to racing and "status" on the track

tranzformer 12-20-2011 11:19 AM

I live in KS and have NEVER seen that on a WRX/STI. Never.

JDLM 12-20-2011 11:23 AM

some NAISOC posts dating back 3 years or more...

good shit man thanks for what you've done.

whitejdm 12-20-2011 01:13 PM

Fender stripes were used originally just so teams could tell the difference between the cars they were fielding

WhiteGDB 12-20-2011 02:25 PM

For any sporty car there are a few in the crowd that do this. WRX guys weren't the first and won't be the last.

ichitaka05 12-20-2011 02:37 PM

Never seen it. At least better than seeing fake M emblem on none M BMW

Don't care bout cheaper wanna be M. If it doesn't come fully M, then it's just wanna be. Simple as that

:bellyroll:

I agree the "M package" has a lot of the M parts but it doesn't include the M emblems.

Went to Subiefest 2011 a few months back. Didn't see a single one with stripes. LOL!

old greg 12-20-2011 06:48 PM

The grand sport hash marks are rice even on Corvettes, they have nothing to do with racing and first appeared on production C4s. Hash marks were used only once, at the 1963 Nassau TT, because Mecom Racing were running three Grand Sport Corvettes of exactly the same color. In order to tell them apart while they were coming down the pit straight, they taped hash marks of a different color on the nose of each car. Race teams do the same thing to this day, but usually it's with the color of the windshield banner. The whole red stripes on the fender thing is GM's factory BS.

No, they were invented by Briggs Cunningham in 1951, to make his cars easier for spectators to identify.

Homemade WRX 12-20-2011 07:29 PM

I'm a massive Subaru nut (just look me up on NASIOC) and I've NEVER seen that.

...then again I live in the actual performance areas and never venture to 'ricer' alley.

saw this on the iwsti link
'Vtec badges are also available on ebay and make a nice touch.'

Spideyrex 12-20-2011 08:00 PM

I live near Seattle where you can't go 30 seconds without seeing a Subaru and I've never seen those stripes.

Caliban 12-20-2011 08:23 PM

I am a member of Nasioc and have never seen those stripes on a subie.. lol maybe I need to frequent the car gallery section more often :P

Dark 12-20-2011 09:25 PM

never seen it on any Subie in my area.

my thoughts exactly...need to pull my head out of built motor, proven power and motorsports

Giccin 12-21-2011 02:38 PM

Never seen it.

cc700 12-22-2011 03:44 AM

i was handsdown when i posted on nasioc. only idiots did this and that was in like 2006, i don't think anyone has anything to worry about.

nrclptcnsmniak 12-23-2011 05:05 AM

ohhhh yeah I remember the fender stripe fad it was a long time ago though. I'd say around 4-6 years ago. I wouldnt say that everybody was doing it but there were quite a few big threads on Nasioc when this trend was going on (now nasioc is filled with threads on neon colored wheels -___-)... anyways I remember it also hit the the corvette crowd... I doubt itll make a come back though

M-17 12-23-2011 09:56 AM

I've seen this pattern stripe before, but never on the streets or on a subaru. If the fender stripe perhaps does become a fad, I wouldn't mind it at all.
What really bothers me the most is when people put fake buick fender vents on their cars (or any vent really), adding crap loads of chrome everywhere they can possibly imagine, and putting fake badging on their cars. I'd list more, but that's what really annoys me most.

old blue 12-27-2011 10:30 PM
