Thanks for getting this started JR. I've actually been thinking about this too. I think we had a couple of suggestions from the off-topic chat, so I'll just mention it again.

Mt. Hamilton:
-The Subie folks had BAM (bay area meet) here, nice picnic area, lots of parking: http://www.sccgov.org/sites/parks/Ri...unty-Park.aspx
-Should be a nice ride up to the location (130) and can continue to the Lick Observatory

Lake Del Valle:
-A little bit closer for our central valley folks (since we've had the last two in the bay area)
-Good big picnic area too, but could get crowded since lots of boaters & swimmers: http://www.ebparks.org/parks/del_valle
-Drive down Mines rd.

86_ZN6 02-24-2013 01:19 AM

wow joseph d grand park is so huge. cant even figure out and visualize the picnic area from the map.

may need to drive down there and check it out. or is there anyone closer willing to do it?

basically need a pic of the parking lot and picnic grounds

but from the looks of it the picnic grounds are not covered!! boooo

BigFatFlip 02-24-2013 01:23 AM

Dang, wished I knew, I was just there last Monday could have taken some pics. From what i remember, the picnic area is not covered but there are lots of trees and its well shaded.

86_ZN6 02-24-2013 01:25 AM

how about the BBQ pits? is it big enough like stafford's??

BigFatFlip 02-24-2013 01:35 AM

Hmmm, not sure but I vaguely remember a large pit one. BAM folks were bbq-ing so its at least a decent size I think.

PMok 02-24-2013 01:54 AM

I really like Mt. Hamilton, but here's a couple more ideas... from past car club meets/bbq/drives:

- Natural Bridges State Beach in Santa Cruz (Drive Hwy 9 etc. down, bbq at park)

- San Leandro Marina (I think the club booked event at the El Torito restaurant)

- Hangar at Alameda. A few years ago SYTFU held a massive all cars meet here, it was incredible. Don't know who they knew or how much they had to pay to rent this place but it was both inside and outside a massive hangar. Room for hundreds of cars. Some photos of the venue here: http://www.tsxclub.com/forums/south-...avel-base.html
(yeah we probably won't have that many cars or need that much space but one can always dream...BIG :) )

BigFatFlip 02-24-2013 02:59 AM

Nice, I remember BAM doing a meet at the Naval base in one of the hangars, made for a really cool group pic on the runway. Pics here for an idea of the place: http://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=22164

I have no idea who organized it but it was in one of wineries in the area, I think you can rent out the back hangar. I believe this was the place: http://www.rockwallwines.com/privateevents

Not sure how much its gonna cost though (I think people paid $20? don't remember), looks pretty fancy tho... maybe if we do get 80+ people

crouchingpinoy 02-24-2013 11:05 AM

I vote somewhere in the east bay to accomodate south bay and central valley folks since last time it was in Marin County.

Lake Del Valle - Mines Rd sounds good :D

I can go check Mt. Hammy out this week. I've never been there but I can see the peak from my house so it can't be too far... lol.

All great ideas. +1 for an eastbay location.

Were you guys thinking of just a twin's meet or all cars?

Just like the last time, other scion, toyota, and subies are always welcome to join

finch1750 02-24-2013 06:47 PM

I vote Lake De Valle. Mines road is a great drive, and I don't have to leave at the but crack of dawn.

The Alameda idea is cool, but if I remember them trying to do Bam there again recently and it was pretty expensive. Not sure we have a bit enough turn out for that

M&M_Hwy9 02-24-2013 10:43 PM

Been thinking about a meet here in Santa Cruz for a while. We could meet up at the Canepa Auto Museum, go for a drive, meet up at Roaring Camp (they can do catered BBQ) or Henry Cowell (for DIY BBQ).

Yeah i dont think we have enough cars to fill up that hangar

Maybe in the future!

finch1750 02-25-2013 01:44 AM

OK. So I definitely thin Lake Del Valle is the right choice. I just drove home from Campbell through Mt. Hamilton to Tesla Rd. Mines Rd is cool, but 130 to My Hamilton and immediately after, well let's just say I can see how BAM and the subie guys end up with crashes. Nice drive, but I sure wouldn't want to do it in a group. If we start there it seems like a good place to end also, central valley guys can take 130 to Patterson, Bay area guys can take 130 to San Jose to head home.

BigFatFlip 02-25-2013 02:41 AM

^Yeah, unfortunately true. Part of the reason I hesitate about doing a group drive there is because of that. Combination of narrow roads, minimal guard rails and sharp drop-offs is not a good idea. My thinking with Del Valle is that the central valley folks can take 130 East back, the South bay folks can take Mt. Hami back and the north/east bay folks can head back either back up Mines rd. or mt. Hami.

Why not reach out to Dublin Toyota/Scion and have them play host and cater food. They have more than adequate real estate and parking for hundreds of cars in used.

I might be able to drop a seed with them and see their response.

Lmk

they can be sponsors for the meet but i prefer to do it at a park and have easy access to the route we plan on taking

lmk if they are willing to sponsor

russv 02-25-2013 10:09 AM

I'm in for wherever!

sdlynx 02-25-2013 01:48 PM

As long as it's not during the Long Beach GP, I'm in. I got weekend tickets for the GP as it's the last of ALMS there in its current state (with P1). Plus the celeb race is in the FR-S. :party0030:

I'd prefer East Bay too.

86BRZ 02-25-2013 04:27 PM

Can't wait.. Where is the sign up thread?

You can even see my friend's Z4 in that picture, which is even more random.

BunnyRZed 02-27-2013 04:35 PM

I'm down, the ideal place would be somewhere in between so BRZers/FRSers from the Central valley can participate too.

Not trying to offend Central Valley peeps but my guess is there are 5-10X the amount of owners in The Bay Area as Central Valley. So you get to come to us.

You can make an event in the valley and invite Bay Area peeps!

I don't have a problem driving to the Bay since I used to live there myself. I'm just trying to think if there would be more people that would show up if it was somewhere like in the East bay.
