ELA is a downloadable touch screen interface on your Android Device or WinCE Hardware that makes the hardware easier to use while in a moving vehicle. E – Elegant L – Logical A – Adaptive Touch screen systems in cars have become either so difficult to use or don’t have the features needed to keep the current crop of tech drivers happy. Automotive manufacturers don’t have the resources or desire to create open source setups as of yet to make the cars we are driving today updatable or upgradable for the life of the car. The design and concepts of ELA were created by the automotive enthusiasts with a focus on ease of use. The UI (User Interface) is designed to be for the novice or hard core geeks. Why? Because there is so much the android platform can offer for next to no cost. The features that we can add to our vehicles is endless, keeping the tech in the car relevant while not having to spent more on the factory options for NAV etc. that will be out dated in just a year or two. So that was all the details, now the practical.
If you want to get in on the beta downloads please sign up and show interest on the google+ page or if you hate google just comment on the Youtube Video for the project. I am working with developers now to get this finished in the next few months. The more support for the project up front the easier it will be to get additional help this is truly the first Automotive UI designed by enthusiasts, so feel free to puke up all your ideas and what you want to see down the road. This is all privately funded, and want to make it available very cheap. It's about giving people the features they want in their cars without getting stuck with expensive systems that never get updates. |
This thing looks amazing. It solves almost every UI issue I have for my N7 install. I am not sure how small business bank loans go, but you could possibly set up a kickstarter to get some interest, money, and visibility for your project. I would definitely chip in.

1. By using the Nexus 7 now what are it's limitations without ELA? 2. Is there a D.I.Y for nexus 7? 3. Can we get a D.I.Y overview or installation page? (how-to) 4. I heard using the nexus 7 doesn't allow for optimum sound quality? is this true? 3. This is a great idea! GREAT WORK! I can see this being big. |

Nexus7, Xoom, S3, HTC DNA, Note 2. Basically it should work on whatever modern android device or tablet you choose. ELA is basically a launcher when it comes down to it, designed to make your device easier to use in the car. 2. I have a pseudo DIY for the FRS/BRZ on the forum but it's kind of a pain to be honest. 3. I will work on updating the DIY in the next few weeks. 4. If you are using a pimped out audio system, with high end audio the Nexus won't be your best bet but if you are running the stock speakers a decent head unit your sound will run over aux and with EQ sounds very good. |

Interesting. Good work. Not my cup of tea, personally, but impressive work nonetheless.
|
props :respekt:. I hope you get this to launch. good luck!
|
What Android version is this going to require. I know a lot of the Android based head units like the Ca-Fi and Adayo are running legacy versions (2.1 I believe) but this would be an excellent front end for it.
Do you think this would work off a MK808 Android Micro PC? I was planning to pair one of those with the AppRadio2 or the Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS in order to get the maximum sound quality from the Android device. |
Ca-Fi runs 2.3
Adayo runs 2.2 |
Right now it is being designed for ICS and newer, so basically 4.x.x.
So much has changed since Gingerbread. That going back to do any coding for it is going to be a ton of money. I think what you will see is Ca-Fi etc. and many other head unit makers going to modern versions of Android. Thats when you will see a huge market of UI and other possibilities. |
Def interested to see where this goes. Commented on the G+ group if you're still looking for beta testers! Would be running this on an N7 and an N4.

@Dezoris
I'm looking forward to it, I will probably get a N7 soon , so count me in. Jw, for the Torque app are you using a wired or wireless module? Thanks, -Wil |

i'm in it to win it!

First post talks about a kick starter project but I can't find it. Please link!
|
I have not set it up yet, trying to get some dev support before I launch it.
|
this looks awesome, but a word of warning: the nexus 7 is annoyingly polarized such that it perfectly cancels out with sunglasses while in landscape. You can't see a damn thing. so anyone planning to install a n7 dash mount should only do so if you never wear sunglasses (or unpolarized ones)
|
Is this downloadable or what?
|
My biggest issue with the possibility of a tablet install is the lack of physical buttons. Is there any way to control a Nexus 7 with a remote or anything like that? And I don't mean with a remote app on your phone; I mean an actual dedicated hardware remote control device.

To get the tablet to wake up when you turn the car on just enable "stay awake when charging" http://aokp.co http://goo.im/devs/aokp/grouper/nightly (Nexus 7 WiFi only) http://goo.im/devs/aokp/tilapia/nightly (Nexus 7 WiFi + SIM) |

Found this relatively quickly. It got put on hold, have plenty of beta testers signed up. Time money and lack of dev help holding it back.

Opensource Android Interface + Android Tablet hardware + Capacitive Touchscreens + Pioneer DEH-80PRS all-in-one unit in double din sizeis what I am hoping for years...
Seems like Car Audio industry is already a few years behind of what the customer really wants... |
