Is yours a Premium or a Limited? Not sure if that was a Limited only option or not.

switchlanez 02-18-2013 11:32 AM

Oh shit. Yeah it should come with the USB port! I'd notify your dealer.

Edit: Then again, I don't know what's standard in Canadian models if that's where you got yours.

tjoy 02-18-2013 11:34 AM

I picked up my Limited this weekend. It came with a USB port by default. It isn't only USB you are missing. That missing outlet has something else too (12v out?)

chenshuo 02-18-2013 11:37 AM

i dont trust the technicians at the dealership that i bougjt my car, do you think if i take it to another subaru dealer i can get one installed for free?

tjoy 02-18-2013 11:40 AM

It either is or isn't a default option for the canadian limited. If you bought it and it isn't correct, I would give them the opportunity to make it right first.

Burrcold 02-18-2013 11:40 AM

You have the Canadian version, so it's in the glovebox (read the owners manual! lol).

Weird. Why is it in the glovebox? Also, is it possible to add a usb connection in the glovebox to US cars?

No idea. But I find it super convenient to throw an MP3 player in the glovebox and it's out of sight without wires being visible.

Correct, both the USB and the AUX are in the glove box. I was a little disappointed they didnt reuse the space in the center console for us canadian folk and instead leaving it look awkwardly deleted out.. But on the brighter side, i personally prefer it in the gloze box. Less wires visible.

bdbx18 02-18-2013 11:48 AM

My USB port is practically useless. It does not provide enough volts to charge our cell phones.

Yes the USB and aux port is in the glovebox. Completely normal don't worry.

SkullWorks 02-18-2013 11:50 AM

cool deal, sort of...

that block off plate looks akward, in US spec cars you have usb and audio input (3.5mm Jack) in that location.

It's cool that there may be a factory harness to get a USB plug in the GloveBox but it kinda sucks that Canadia, gets an extra akward block off plate. I remember my Dad's 944s2 had a bunch of rocker switch block offs in the center console and as a child I always equated that to not buying a car with all the options (or cheap in my perception)...in reality it probably had more to do with it being a lightweight car ordered by a gentleman for autocross use.

but to buy a new car (with all the options) and get block off plates...silly really...

I'd much rather have it in the glovebox myself. I plan to move mine if I ever get bored enough. Having to move/hide the ipod everytime I leave the car parked somewhere is annoying.. glove box = problem solved.

I'll need to source that canadian blockoff plate eventually :)

Rayme 02-18-2013 11:51 AM

That damn plug...FR-S owners want that USB plug in the glove box and BRZ owners wants it on the front of the shifter. lol

Burrcold 02-18-2013 11:54 AM

I love the delete plate. I'm going to eventually fabricate my garage door opener button into it.

chenshuo 02-18-2013 01:31 PM

i would love to have the usb port at the console and not in the glove box. such a hassle to crawl down and insert usb. is there a DIY to connect it to my console?

USB cable extension?

I personally hate having that cable running INTO MY GLOVE BOX

FRSFirestorm 02-18-2013 02:08 PM

I actually love having the USB plug in the console. It sucks, and suprising the BRZ doesn't put it there.

I originally plugged my Iphone into it to charge and play tunes. I've since move the charging to the cupholder area and bought a microusb stick to store music on. Works out very well.

WolfpackS2k 02-18-2013 03:35 PM

I'm not a fan of having the USB (and Aux) input on the dashboard. I would much prefer it in the glovebox with the 12V power supply. I never leave my iPod out in plain sight when the car is parked so having to run a wire into the glovebox just looks bad.

Your in Toronto? The Canadian models come with the USB and audio plug in the back of the glove box. Problem solved.

Guess I should've read the whole thread....lol

Z3D 02-18-2013 04:00 PM

If you have the USB/AUX port in the glove box, Is the port the same size? It may fit in the dash location?

The BRZ does have it on the console just like the FR-S, but only on the US model. The Canadian model of both cars have it in the glovebox.

If you were to poll this, I would think it would probably be 50/50 as to what everyone would prefer.

All the little differences between the US spec, CAD spec, EUR spec, and JPN spec is quite ridiculous. It does give us some fun stuff to talk about in the mean time.:23:

Sport-Tech 02-18-2013 04:48 PM

Maybe the difference is related to the fact that the Canadian BRZ has a different Pioneer-branded HU, possibly connecting through the glovebox works better for that unit?

But then why would it be in the glovebox for the FRS? It is strange that they didn't use the same location globally, but I'm sure there is some reason...none that I can think of though lol.

Maybe the FR-S HU is "position neutral" on these inputs... so they went with what's best for our BRZ :D

lol definite possibility!

chenshuo 03-01-2013 11:03 AM

Is there a DIY thread to install the US model USB port to the Canadian model?

russv 03-01-2013 11:11 AM

Trade it in for a FRS. Problem solved.

gily25 03-01-2013 11:15 AM

I wish the USB was in the glove box in the US...our Lancer has it there and it's great "out of sight out of mind" comfort. Plus you don't have to look for a place to put the ipod or get a tiny USB.

slawdio 03-01-2013 11:36 AM

does anyone have a picture of the glove box connections? I have a US version and Can picture where they would mount a USB and Aux Port in the glovebox.

I guess if I installed an aftermarket head unit with dual USB ports I could maybe source a CanSpec glovebox.

I expect it's probably a traffic safety thing. Probably along the lines of thinking "if your phones plugged in in the glovebox you can't mess with it."

jmh 03-02-2013 05:31 PM

Why not use bluetooth? Is there a drop in quality?
