Inline Racing Custom Turbo Kit

Update 03/19/13:
About a week ago Inline Racing tuned out my car on BRZedit. The car made 280whp on wastegate. (4.75lb spring). Today (after all the TX2K13 events) They had time to mess with it some more. So they turned up the boost to about 5-6lbs. and it made 303whp. Then they turned it up to about 8lbs. Clutch started to slip on the dyno. So they unstrapped it to see if it was the load of it being strapped down and being on the dyno that made it slip at that power and tq level. Took a hit on the street and the car feels amazing! Wish I had a clutch to see what the car is making at this point. My guess would be upwards of 310whp. Time for a clutch and see what happens.

Sorry their tq reader wasn't acting right. So no tq readings. :/

4-5lbs of boost 280whp:

5-6lbs of boost 303whp:

7-8lbs of boost 202whp clutch slipping:

Well I went back to Inline Racing on Monday(02/11/13) to get a custom made turbo kit done for Houston IFO on 02/17/13.

All the parts I ordered came in:
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1d25480c.jpg

I decided to go with a Garrett 60-1 Turbo:
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1c59e822.jpg

Got the material for the collector and manifold to be made from BMC Racing:
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...psa8855dd1.jpg
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...psa92441f1.jpg

Once that was bought They got right to work:

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...ps720f4a08.jpg
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5a4c80e2.jpg

Than it was time to figure out the Turbo placement:
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...psfb62f0b4.jpg

Than back to work on figuring out the rest of the runners:

Than they welded a bung on the the oil pan I bought for the oil return:
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...ps96e8e364.jpg
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...psaa01a5ba.jpg

Next they made a spot for the Tial 38mm MVS wasegate I bought:
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...ps633df402.jpg
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...psaa797d21.jpg

Now for the 3" Downpipe and Overpipe:
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8ff89eae.jpg
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9ff68eb0.jpg

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1c21b4cb.jpg
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3d33836b.jpg

Now It was time to mount the Intercooler I had custom made by Extreme Turbo Systems, ETS:

On Wednesday(02/13/13) it was time to route the intercooler Piping and figure out a spot for the Tial Q BOV I bought:
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...ps25045c04.jpg
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...ps86e9b2c3.jpg

On Thursday(02/14/13) It was Valentine's Day and I got the car all finished with a Full 3" Singel Exit Exhaust made. It's as straight as can be :) :
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...psac2888e2.jpg
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...ps98d55da4.jpg

Now It's all done. And waiting for Inline Racing to get the software and tune it!:
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...ps23108620.jpg

As of right now I am keeping it under 4k RPM to drive it around until it gets tuned. It drives great. No ideal issues. No sputter. It just seems like it wants to boost. So no lag from this turbo! I am extremely happy with this kit! :happy0180::happyanim:

I chose to keep the manifold, downpipe, uppipe and exhaust raw for now. No coating.

Parts:
Garrett 60-1
New Toyota Oil Pan
ETS 3" FMIC
Inline Racing Turbo Manifold
Inline Racing 3" Downpipe
Inline Racing 3" Overpipe
Inline Racing 3" Catback
Inline Racing Intake w/K&N Carbonfiber Filter
Inline Racing Custom Intercooler Piping
Tial 38mm MVS Wastegate
Tial Q BOV
Hallman MBC

What are you planning on using for tuning?

Gixxersixxerman 02-16-2013 12:07 PM

Looks great..

ILR says they were trying to get in contact with John a while back but he said he would call him back after a haircut and never did, or something like that I dunno. It was a WHILE back. No he is looking at how people are using and liking the ecuedit.

How much did it set you back, if you don't mind me asking?

$5500 installed.

dabocx 02-16-2013 12:56 PM

So the filter ends up right behind the fog light/turn signal?

Tansey86 02-16-2013 12:56 PM

Oh that intercooler. What's the turbos hp rating?

Do Boy 02-16-2013 02:35 PM

It's in that area.

It's rated max 450-500.

PRORICAN 02-16-2013 05:03 PM

Looks great! Can't wait to see numbers!

usptwins 02-16-2013 05:14 PM

looks good man, glad to see someone using a bigger turbo... just really don't like the placement of the turbo like that. But congrats on the install man. Will they tune it for extra or what??

Mr.Jay 02-16-2013 05:22 PM

Looks good. Your build is deff one of my favs.

Can't wait for you to get some dyno time in

They said since I'm the first, they will tune it at no extra charge.

usptwins 02-16-2013 05:32 PM

Great deal man!!!! They tuning it on the dyno right??

Supermassive 02-16-2013 05:39 PM

No offense to people using EcuEdit, but the software is way behind the curve of Ecutek. Sure you are at the mercy of your tuner in order to have tweaks done, but the absolute control EcuTek gives a tuner is far and away the best option available. Per gear boost profiles, boost control through the ecu, traction control, etc. etc. EcuEdit is cheaper for a reason. It doesnt appear that the OP is hurting for money since he got a custom turbo setup made...as for dealing with John @Visconti you have to email, call, or PM him as he is innundated with people calling constantly. When he came out to Phoenix and road tuned my FRS it was pretty epic. The man is a damn EcuTek wizard. My A/F ratio was perfectly flat when I later took it to a dyno...all tuning done from the passenger seat of my car while we were bombing up and down roads on the reservation.

That's great information and all. But please don't bring any ecuedit vs ecutek into my thread. Nothing is set in stone with software. As I said my Tuner said he is waiting on how people are liking it. My tuner is also a busy guy. So he can't just sit there and try to contact john to become a dealer.

Do Boy 02-16-2013 06:20 PM

I also already have a ecutek licence for my car.

STJ 02-16-2013 06:42 PM

Please some picture's with the exhaust on the car!

Alhammadi 02-16-2013 06:45 PM

about the Turbo Manifold, why you did the piping in this way? you could make it more simpler I guess. just an opinion.

NJA 02-16-2013 06:48 PM

love the turbo placement!

The owner of Inline Racing says there are simpler ways. But this is a custom one off kit. And also that he doesn't want to be accused of simply copping anyone else's design. And I believe he accomplished that :)

anyway, its looks great honestly, and wish you all the best, looking forward to see the results.

DelayedBRZ 02-16-2013 07:43 PM

Definitely curious on the Dyno run.

That manifold is pretty wicked. It seems to have a slightly longer run than a few of the others I've seen in the turbo forum. I am curious if it will move the torque a little earlier or just as spool comes on. I like the arrow straight exhaust as well, is the need to keep it straight the reason you went with a single exit?

Well the intake pipe and IC pipe routing on the right is definitely the opposite of what everyone else is doing.....I like it!

Edit: Except it may be a little more work to get at the filter to clean it.

Correct. He wanted flow to be maximized. A duel exit just wasn't in the question for that.

Tansey86 02-16-2013 08:22 PM

Hows the noise level when cruising around town with single 3"? Im sure the turbo quiets it down a bit and I think I saw a resonator.

It's soooo much quieter than my NA setup. That's a flex pipe.

Oh my bad. Awesome! Glad you like it so much.

King Tut 02-17-2013 12:00 AM

I really like that simple exhaust setup with the flex. I worry about my turbo downpipe, overpipe, and uppipe having no flex in it.

crook 02-17-2013 02:51 AM

You definantly need a flex bit in an exhaust especially in a low car if its going to be hitting/scraping on things, my s13 kept blowing turbo flange gaskets (low mount turbo) i tried everything and soon as I put in a flex pipe it stopped! And also a big fan of that straight exhaust very nice setup

carlitosway6891 02-17-2013 01:39 PM

im curious to see results as well!!! great build man congrats =)

FA20Club.com 02-17-2013 10:48 PM

Looking good.

enjoi23 02-18-2013 01:18 AM

It's official. You've almost put as much money into the car as it costs lol.

extreme-86 02-18-2013 03:34 AM

I'm wondering why the 60-1 was selected ? It is a old design compressor wheel, that works at mid to high pressure ratios and is quite "laggy"

Are you guys planning a forged internal build and 20+psi boost in the near future ?

Curious to see the dyno results and power curve

unijabnx2000 02-18-2013 03:40 AM

oil cooled turbo means no plumbing water lines

Nice. Setup is looking good. But hard to imagine a 60-1 not lagging on a 2.0L. You probably should compare with another turbo FR-S that is running something that spools faster and then you will notice lag out of your 60-1.

Pure Automotive 02-18-2013 02:08 PM

60-1 Doesn't lag much, I had a 60-1 on my 1.8 Honda and full boost came in around 4300. 60-1 is old technology, but it's proven to work. From my experience so far, that lag will come in handy when you're figuring in mpg economy if you daily drive. Besides, for a drag racing application, you don't have to worry about lag if you shift fast enough!
@Do Boy: Respect from a fellow drag racer, our first IFO is March 17, can't wait!

Do Boy 02-18-2013 02:10 PM

The lag is minimal I can cee this car hitting full boost by 4000-4300 easily. I have already explained how this car feels under part throttle. Are you driving the car? No. It's a 60-1 with. Stage 3 wheel not a stage 5 or anything big.

Thanks for chiming in! Yes 60-1 is old technology but as you said it works. GL at IFO. I just took first place in the Show at this past IFO. As soon As we tune it out, I'll be entering FIS in the future

Thanks! Running FIS with my customer's Full Blown Stage 1 Kit on E85. Probably won't win, but should make the field at least!
