I must say I would take this over anything

It is really not bad. They should sell this as an Opel Omega OPC here in Europe.

SubieNate 02-14-2013 01:55 PM

I wanted the Vauxhall Insignia VXR with the twin turbo v6 and AWD for a very long time. I got all excited when they decided to bring that chassis to the US as the Buick Regal and promised a hopped up version with all the goodies. It came out with a weak turbo 4 and FWD.

I don't know why they refuse to bring Holden/Vauxhall/Opel's to the states under their real names. I'd rather have a Holden logo then a Chevy one. The bowtie is ugly.

The new Commodore looks awesome.

Yeah they totally killed dream of having all the performance of the cars in other countries when they being them over to the u.s. I agree I would like the other badges other than the bowtie.

"Chevrolet has unveiled its new top-of-the-line high-performance sedan based on the next-generation Holden VF Commodore from Australia. Shown just before the 2013 Daytona 500 NASCAR race in Florida — where it will compete on Feb. 24 — the new 2014 Chevrolet SS shares a platform with the Camaro and new Caprice police car. It will slot above the Impala in both performance and price when it goes on sale later this year. If the lines look somewhat familiar, they should — GM used to sell the last generation of this sedan through Pontiac outlets as the G8, where it was a favorite of car enthusiasts but relatively unknown among the general public.

The new rear-wheel-drive sedan will be a performance halo vehicle for the Chevrolet brand. It features the Corvette's LS3 V-8 engine: 6.2 liters of naturally aspirated muscle motor making 415 horsepower and 415 pounds-feet of torque routed through a six-speed automatic transmission. It is Chevrolet's first rear-wheel-drive performance sedan for the U.S. market since the demise of the last Impala SS in 1996.

Unlike the new Impala or the old Pontiac G8, however, the Chevy SS is going to be more expensive and focus almost entirely on performance. Standard will be a Brembo brake system, a sport suspension and forged-aluminum 19-inch wheels wrapped with Bridgestone ultra-high-performance tires. A paddle-shift system will allow drivers to select their own gears. An aluminum hood and trunk are 30% lighter than comparable steel panels and contribute to the car's near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution.
Inside, the SS will come fully equipped with standards like leather seats, a touch-screen center console with navigation and Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, a Bose nine-speaker sound system, push-button start, forward collision alert and lane departure warning, a color heads-up display on the windshield and the first application of an autonomous parking system for any Chevrolet in the U.S. Prominent SS script will be stitched into the leather interior as well.

Previously, the SS moniker (for Super Sport) was applied only to high-performance versions of existing Chevy nameplates (Camaro SS, Impala SS). This marks the first time the trim level will be used as a vehicle name by itself, and on paper at least, it seems a fitting name for what promises to be a monster." Cars.com

So, it's a G8, only MORE expensive, and doesn't look anything like as good what with all the silly chrome trim and god-awful giant gold bow-tie emblems. Hmmm...

I'm a big fan of understated styling, but I do not care for the results of blandifying the Holden.

Then again, as I look at the two, are the only differences the badges and paint color? Somehow that gold Bow-tie makes my brain immediately think of 1970s/80s square-bodied Chevy Caprices...

Calum 02-16-2013 01:31 PM

Agreed that bowtie kills it for me.

JoeBoxer 02-16-2013 01:32 PM

Grille looks really cheap i would have to swap that out immediately, the Holden one isn't any better i think they could have done a cleaner job on the whole front bumper/grille area. The lower part actually looks like a Hyundai is what i'm seeing.

NYC BRZ 02-16-2013 01:53 PM

I had a G8 GT before the BRZ with 351whp/364wtq and damn do i miss it. I had high hopes for the SS and it really looks good. The grill is a bit weak but the car is nice. They missed the boat big time by not offering a manual option. The Aussie cars get to have all the fun. The 6spd G8 GXP owners breathed a sign of relief this morning now that they know th wont take a depreciation hit. I still really want a 6spd GXP and hopefully ill get one when the BRZ is paid off.

'Performance halo vehicle' without a manual trans is counterproductive. I hope they get the hint because there seems to be potential here. Nice look for a chebby.

The bowtie looks awful on anything that's not a truck or vintage in my opinion.

ZDan 02-16-2013 03:12 PM

Yes, big gold bowtie MUST GO.

Weirdly enough, I had a '95 purple Z28 6-speed, and I LOVED the contrasting orange/red bowtie outline emblems on it (mid front bumper, offset to right on rear bumper)!

It's funny you say that. I was trying to imagine what it would look like if they modernized it. Maybe just a chrome outline of the bowtie or just make it chrome instead of the gaudy gold color.

The tailights are copied from the JZX100 Cresta.

Seriously?
The taillights are more or less a pretty generic shape in the auto industry......

The359 02-16-2013 06:15 PM

If those taillights share anything from the Toyota Cresta, then I'm the Queen of England.

I think it looks great as far as a four door sedan.. I don't see the tail lights being copied at all.. being rear wheel drive and a nice V8.. I give Chevy/holden props for bringing it here

These are very common in Australia where they were designed.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...1&d=1361057515

VF has same engine as VE until next year.

They look good and sound good but compared to my BRZ for on road handling they are a bucket of shit.

You get 362 bhp but they weigh over 1900 kg

BRZ has the asthmatic 200 bhp but sub 1200 kg it's a better sporty car
every day of the week.

That's a bit of an apples and orange comparison. One's a strict coupe, the other is a family sedan. You might as well compare a G63 AMG while you're at it.

dsgerbc 02-17-2013 12:19 AM

Chevy version looks okay. I'd drive it. But no MT option significantly lowers my willingness to pay for this car.

Gixxersixxerman 02-17-2013 12:31 AM

Love all the auto hate... Unfortunately all "real sports cars" are going the way of ditching the manual.. I'm all for it.. I've rode in a 430 and the kick and speed of that transmission shifting was amazing.. There is a reason manufactures are ditching it and any auto enthusiast already knows them, around a track my auto doesn't upset the car at all, yet in my ride along I could feel how the shifts was moving the car around.. If the auto has launch control then it's faster to 60, in a 1/4 all that.. In my motorcycle world having a quick shifter and not lifting cuts up to 2-3 tenths.. I don't know what a pdk, or dual clutch car would get over a regular 5-6 speed, but instant shifts and autoblips on downshifts gotta help..

wrxgoose 02-17-2013 04:58 AM

don't like the looks, and it's going to be so freaking heavy. too heavy imo

oops86 02-17-2013 09:59 AM

This would look better as a Buick.

I'm also still waiting on my El Camino. Still waiting.

Rayme 02-17-2013 11:45 AM

I guess that's one of those cars you need to be a GM fanatic to like. A sports sedan with bland design and no 3rd pedal (it's about the fun of driving, not lap times).. Sounds like a great car for a family guy who's wife can't drive manual though.

We get it in manual here. We even get it as a very nice station wagon!

Funny about the bow tie. Over here, bogans (rednecks) replace the Holden badges with bow ties.

Who is copying whom? I'm pretty certain the Stingray concept predates the LF-LC by...three years!

Doesn't that Stingray concept look alot like the 2003 LF-A concept!

The359 02-17-2013 06:59 PM

From the relatively same angle? No, it doesn't.

http://tysongamblin.files.wordpress....ay-concept.jpg

Having a vent in the rear under the tail lights does not mean they're ripping each other off. The point is to show the C7 taillights and vents are based on the Stingray concept. That the LF-LC has a similar boomerang shaped thing around the taillights does not mean they are copying one another. Especially since the LF-LC's boomerangy nonsense also extends around the side of the car, like so many car companies are doing these days (Nissan Altima?)

Final HSV With ZR1's 638 HP Engine To Be Dubbed GTS-R W1

Quote:

The final HSV branded Holden Commodore-based model is set to be dubbed the GTS-R W1, reports Australian publication Motoring.

Based around the soon-to-be-killed 2017 Commodore, the GTS-R W1 will be HSV's swansong and the most powerful, fast and expensive production car it has ever produced. It will also be the fastest production car ever built in Australia.

Power for the HSV GTS-R W1 will come courtesy of the 6.2-liter supercharged LS9 V8 engine of the previous-generation Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. When installed into the ZR1, this insane powertrain delivers 638 hp and 820 Nm (604 lb-ft) of torque. While the final power figures for the HSV model aren't yet known, they're expected to be at least the same as the ZR1 or could be raised slightly.

Whatever the case may be, the model should be able to sprint to 100 km/h (62mph) in around 4 seconds and rocket down the quarter mile in just 12 seconds. These impressive times will come despite the fact the car will only be offered in rear-wheel drive and with a six-speed manual transmission.

Elsewhere, the GTS-R W1 will include a set of bespoke dampers design and manufactured in Adelaide by Supashock. They will include similar technology to the shocks of the current Commodore VF Supercars.

The model will be sold exclusively in Australia and limited to around 250 examples, starting at $170,000 AUD ($128,000 Stateside).
