sunroof option?
 

Hello, kinda new here but I have been following forums for a while now. Just wondering will there be an option for sunroof? I haven't seen a sunroof in any of the pictures...

I highly doubt it. Sunroof adds alot of weight up high. They are trying to get the lowest weight posible.

There will be no option for sunroof, it was officially released that there would not.

The reason they aren't adding a sunroof option is cause the roof design they have now was designed to increase aerodynamics, plus it might ruin the extra headroom.

And the strength of having a solid roof versus having a hole. The car is all about lateral stability so they do not want to do anything to compromise that. Also the reason they wont make a convertible.

Awesome news for me, I was really scared it would be added to the high trim if they offered it on the Scion.

Nope. I thought of several smart-ass responses when I saw it, but let them pass. Makes my posts seem even funnier to me now though.

Thanks you Toyota and Subaru for not putting a sunroof in this car...and if you think about it, there is no sunroof in the LFA too..the rich man's FR-S\86!

You know, all debates aside about sunroof weight/costs, I've never found them that appealing for some reason (I have friends that basically can't consider a vehicle without one though).

One of those weird things I guess...

I enjoy having a sunroof but it's not a viable reason to not consider a car in my opinion. Would I like to have one? Sure. Would I like the option to add on? Of course. But am I going to not buy a car because it doesn't have one? Absolutely not.

My Tacoma doesn't have one and I really dont miss it. My Honda Odessey has it and we rarely use it.

IMO it's all about how a person gets accustomed to something. It's always difficult to go backwards rather than forwards, or upwards. What did Chriss Rock say??? Once a girl dates a guy with a car she'll never date a guy without one. And once she dates a guy with his own place she'll never date one without one? LOL You guys get the point.

I think a lot of people have been stating their desires about an option or another because they've become accustomed to having it and, like I said above, it takes some getting used to not having that which you've become accustomed to...

For those who haven't had the fortunate, or unfortunate, situation of having had these luxuries to live with, on a regular basis, it will be easier to write people off and say, "oh it'll add weight" and "this is a purist car" so on and so on...

If the designers had added a sunroof to the FRS/BRZ, I bet everyone would be thinking that it's the best thing since sliced bread. LOL :bonk:

Same here. I have one car with it. I open it once every few years just to see if it still works. I have having it otherwise, removes headroom for when I use to track the car (I had to have it open to wear a helmet or have my head tilted against the damn thing all the time).. this car is low and losing 3" or so of headroom would be completely unacceptable IMO.

who needs a sunroof when you can have a legit fixed roof sports car? :burnrubber: and it's got the cool aerodynamic scalloped roof. sexy and efficient. doesn't get any better.:thumbsup:

Oh and its a poor man's LFA for reals!

It would likely make me not even consider buying the car if it had to have a sunroof. I'm serious about that too. If it were an option, fine, but if it had to be there I would not be buying one. I need the headroom to clear a helmet so having one would completely eliminate some of the uses I will have for the car.

If it had sunroof, I would better off with 370Z.

Normally yes, but on this car it's going to be more difficult because the roof isn't a (more or less) flat surface.

And are more prone to leaking.

It seems most people here are against a sunroof/targa top/etc., but I would kill for that TRD version with a targa top. It would be a throwback to the last gen Supra turbo with a targa. :party0030:

I couldn't agree with you more. I absolutely love the idea of a targa top, always wanted one and with this car already reminding me of the mkiv, that would solidify it being the supra's little brother for me :thumbup:

Targas are rough for accident protection though... not to say they can't be done, but it requires a very strong chassis/structure to do so these days and still get good crash test results.

I'm going to assume this could add considerable weight to the car? Not to mention the tiny trunk that we currently have would be damn near useless. Still, I'd get it haha

I've had a moonroof in every Honda I've owned since 1992...none have leaked even the slightest bit.

For me, not having a roof is something I will miss tremendously as there is rarely a day it isn't used, even light rain days :(

Also, being a smoker makes having no roof tricky...that's my ashtray(minus the butt).

To be honest, I can live without a sunroof, but living in SoCal it sure is nice to have one to enjoy the sunny weather. :D
