Putting an FRS front bumper on a BRZ

I was wondering, what issues do you know that you'd run into doing this? I haven't had a chance to take off see the details on an FRS front bumper to make the comparison. The main things I'm concerned about are:
  1. Are the bumper supports the same size? (I'm 99% sure they are).
  2. Would the light sockets on the BRZ match up to directly to the FRS? (headlights, bottom turn signals)
  3. The only thing I would really need is the bumper skin and bottom turn signal lights from the FRS?

Any input from people that have seen the details of both cars would be appreciated. :thanks:

why didn't you get a FRS in the first place?

Because "Scion"...

He crashed his front bumper and would rather put the FRS bumper on as a replacement.

Why would you need the turn signals of the FRS? The BRZ has it in the headlights :)

I just need the actual piece in place. Otherwise, there'd be an empty hole where the light is supposed to be. I dont intend on using that as my turn signal.

Marcoscrdo 02-10-2013 11:09 PM

cover those holes with something :P

If I remember correctly, it'll bolt right up.

Someone in the aftermarket should really make a signal lamp delete for those that want to do this, or that want to put the BRZ headlights onto the FRS.

Chaetagnath 02-11-2013 09:30 AM

I'd be really interested to see how that turns out. A lot of FRS folks bought it just for the front bumper and then have been trying to install as many components as possible which are standard on the BRZ limited. Some are nearly impossible though (Example auto climate control). If you can swap the bumper out, it would seem to be an easier way. Of course, Toyota could just sell the GT 86 here.

Have you looked at the ARP brake cooling ducts to fill those spots? I think they make a part to completely fill in the turns and the space beneath it.

APR, but yes they make nice CF replacements with brake ducts. As for why, change the bumper...because moustache and grin!

Exactly! Thank you for conveying that. Thats exactly what i didnt want to do. Getting the BRZ and putting on a front bumper seemed like a better option than getting an FRS and putting on all the things i wish it came with (headlights, climate controls, HIDs). Some people here dont seem to realize that.

Yeah i have. I just dont like the way it looks without the light there. Thanks for the suggestion though!

interested to see how this turns out.. i want to get the rocket bunny kit and it fits better with the frs front bumper.

Acree 02-11-2013 05:13 PM

I would personally love to see this done. I bought a Limited just for all of the extra stuff that the FRS didn't offer. But ultimately, I much prefer the FR-S front bumper.

Consider yourselves lucky, I want all the features of the brz limited, the frs front, but I'm dead set on the car itself being hot lava. Aka, not going to happen unless I do a bumper swap AND paint the whole car. Lol

Just my personal opinion, buy the BRZ and turn it into the FR-S with the bumper swap and a wrap. It's way too difficult (electrically speaking) to turn the FR-S into the BRZ. The dual climate HVAC alone makes that a nightmarish and expensive task.

When I first saw the BRZ in pics, I hated the front bumper. Now that I own one, I actually like it better than the FR-S front. It's not as aggressive as the FR-S, but it gives the car a classy appeal. Just my opinion. :)

Ditto here, what I'd like is actually the JDM GT 86 Limited, but doesn't look like that will be an option, so it looks like taking the limited BRZ and making it an FRS would be the way to go.

sprintertrueno86 02-12-2013 04:48 AM

would love to see a WRB BRZ with FRS front bumper

Turbowned 02-12-2013 12:32 PM

I weirdly like the BRZ front more now, too. But do what you want; that's what makes these cars so cool is that there's so much that can be done to them! All you should really need is the bumper skin (make sure it comes with the tow hook cover), grille and indicators. They've fitted BRZ lights to an 86 before so that will work just fine. What you could do with the turn signal indicators, since you'll have the marker lights already in the BRZ headlights, is turn the FR-S ones into LED DRL's. Just a thought.

The BRZ headlight has an attached rubber pad, you won't see them because of brz's bumper design, when you install the frs bumper the little rubber will be visible so you will need to remove them.

dammitcubs 02-14-2013 02:48 AM

I would like to see this as well. I love the FR-S front but Love the BRZ interior.

86BRZ 02-16-2013 03:16 AM

Interested ...Please post a DIY. This is much easier than mess with the interior options. The remaining is the Toyota badges and some small parts then you are not too far away from the JDM GT 86!

Can I re-use fogs lights from BRZ with the FR-S bumper cover if I decided to swap the bumper covers?

Most likely no, considering how different they are but you can buy fogs and wire them to the frs bumber. Turn signals though that's a different story. It shouldn't be to hard though.

86GT 04-23-2013 05:16 PM

Could someone share info if this is even doable? Any pictures? Seems like there are a lot of people asking for this.

Maximania 05-09-2013 06:26 PM

I too would be interested in seeing this. It would make the decision between buying an FR-S and BRZ a lot easier

It really would. I'm liking everything about the FR-S except I really want the headlights and fog lights from the BRZ. I know they swap over fairly well, but where do you find dang BRZ headlights for your FR-S?

Xdragonxb0i 05-10-2013 02:41 AM

i wonder if im the only guy with FRS that wants a BRZ bumper.

I didnt get a brz, bc i couldnt find any at the time =/

Find someone close and do a swap.. Looks like a few BRZ owners are at least interested

SLICVIC 05-10-2013 02:06 PM

another thread of someone asking for help and a bunch of posts asking "why" lol

im not sure if it was Bee*R , but someone in japan picked up a BRZ and wanted to mount the rocket bunny kit and ended up having to swap to frs bumper . Has to be a writeup about it somewhere on the web. Hope that helps you

not sure how i feel about swapping. stock vs stock i'd chose the brz but i dont really Love the brz bumper. BUT the choice of aftermarket lips for the frs bumper is definitely very nice.

rhood168 05-12-2013 12:13 AM

Looking to do this on my limited brz but i cant find the front bumper for the frs. Who wants to swap :P

OmarGC 05-12-2013 12:19 AM

I'd swap my fr-s bumper for a limited brz bumper... Just gotta find a creative way to do turn signals(nvm I'd just use the strip slot above the foglight area on the brz bumper.)

FYI I have a 37c fr-s bumper w/toyota badge, switchback 6k turn signals, and jdm foglights. I'm in the SW IL area
