Dry air filter??

The only one I can find that does need to be oiled is the aFe. Are there more?? I've been sitting here reading thread after thread, so figured I'd ask...

JoeBoxer 02-10-2013 01:14 AM

Cosworth, i run one myself and seems to be pretty good. I think No Limit has some in stock.

zoomzoomers 02-10-2013 01:26 AM

Isn't the Perrin drop in a dry filter too?

JoeBoxer 02-10-2013 02:16 AM

Perrin is an oiled foam filter

benster 02-10-2013 07:46 AM

AEM makes a pretty good one, I run it on my car and haven't had any isses yet.

Laika 02-10-2013 09:13 AM

Airaid is another option....

I've never dealt with oiled filters. Would love to get the Perrin, but scared ill screw something up when it's time to oil it. How often would I have to do this?

ECUtrav 02-10-2013 11:05 AM

Get the aFe Pro-Dry S Air Filter, it doesn't need to be oiled. It's very similar to the AEM dry filter I used on my Genesis Coupe. To clean it, you can tap, vacuum, or wash under water. And it comes with a lifetime warranty, got mine for $57.

Where did you get yours at? Cheapest I can find, including shipping, is $62.99 on eBay

AVO also offers Oil-less, reusable panel filter.

Cajun 02-10-2013 09:52 PM

I ordered the aFe one for $52 shipped. Now to wait patiently for it to arrive.

The Cosworth filter rocks!

No oil, high flow and 100% synthetic media.

They are master/monster engine builders with a long racing history.

ATL BRZ 02-11-2013 12:14 PM

APEXi makes one: http://apexi-usa.com/shop/index.php/...rz-4u-gse.html

WolfSongX 02-11-2013 12:46 PM

The old SARD filters were dry filters as well. I wish I still had mine from when we were a SARD dealer.

tripjammer 02-11-2013 03:38 PM

I got the aFe dry filter and it's good even though I have yet to go over 4000 rpms since I am still in break in. It's still a good filter! I did not know it had a lifetime warranty! Yes!

Anyone using the WORKS filter? Apparently it adds 8-10 hp at the crank.

All those dynos Perrin and Works use say its by the flywheel but it isnt. Perrin uses the same type of dyno and they have repeatedly said its by the wheel. People need to stop saying the wrong info

Good to know. I was just going off of what I saw in the thread about that filter.

JoeBoxer 02-12-2013 09:07 AM

Works actually states their gains as flywheel hp, if it made 10hp to the wheels i think everybody would be running one.

Would it be safe to say these gains would be equivalent to what are seen with a Perrin drop in filter of about 3-4 WHP?

I'm sure they are similar there is only so much you are going to get with an air filter.

We all wont be happy until we have a magical drop in filter that will give us 10whp for $44. :)

This was posted in the Works thread. He doesnt have a baseline but the average for the twins is around 160-165 for stock.

What you quoted from JoeBoxer is wrong. The dyno on the WORKS site even shows 10 whp gain from what I believe is a Dynapack which always says at the flywheel like how the perrin dyno's are.

173-174 WHP is very good just for a drop in. Look at what the other drop in's did in the drop in filter dyno's that drift office did. they all got around 5 whp with a baseline at 163.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ghlight=filter

Even though the person didnt post a baseline dyno most fr-s/brz's have had around 160 WHP when dyno'd.

And to answer what you quoted JoeBoxer saying Works drop in thread if you check it out has been backed up for weeks with their orders. The pricing of the works is double what all other drop in's are and Works has made filters for Evo's that have gotten 18 whp. Go google it if you dont believe me. Works filters are pretty well known on evo forums

Installed the aFe filter Friday. It was definitely a tight fit and took some muscle to get the clamps to close. I can hear that nice little purr when I get on it. Not sure if I'm just wanting to hear that or if its really there lol
