so lucky for me BC Racing is about 30 minutes away from where i work so i was able to go to them and pick up the coilovers. when i got there i was immediately greeted by the staff and felt very welcomed. any and all questions i had were given full explanation as this is my first real set of coilovers. while i was there one of the guys that worked there owns a brz with the BC coilovers and willingly took me out for a test drive in his car so i could get a feel for the road manners of the coilovers!! all in all it was a great experience and would definitely refer anyone to go there even just to check out their products

so after i install them which didnt take long at all i went out for a drive and just as expected after going out for a ride in the brz, the ride quality is very solid. the ride was really firm at first but after lowering the damper rates i got it just the way i wanted it esp being this is my daily 1 hour each way to and from work. overall im extreemly happy i bought this set! it was within my budget and the quality of the product and customer service was top notch!!

i got these. took them all apart and anti sized everything. too many times i find out a year later your fighting everything to adjust them

Ok, so I have a vendor ordering a pair of coilovers for me.. BC coilovers to be exact. Was I supposed to let him know what spring rates I wanted? I'm building a show car, not a track car. And I'd still like to maintain the quality of ride of stock and drop it an inch or two onto 18's.

8/8 is the usual concensus, you should do good with that.

i honestly dont know the spring rates of the coilovers. i told them i wanted to buy coilovers and that it was a daily driver with ocassional autocross use and they gave me the goods and that was that =)

as far as ride quality goes, its only a tiny bit stiffer than stock but i have the dampers set to zero and it really does soak up big bumps at highway speed (45+) really good, i was impressed! but at lower speeds there is a tiny bit of bouncyness which would be inevitable with a set up like this but absoultely nothing unpleasant, i think the perfect word would be very sporty.

handeling wise, words cannot describe the response that the car provides with the new suspension! you really do have to drive it to know what im talking about, its that good =)

The standard kit is 8k front/rear so if you did not specify this is likely what you will get. Custom rates are typically built to order and can take 1-2 weeks to ship FYI

I'm glad there are so many guys joining the BC family. I've had mine on for a month or so now and love them!!

not the extreem low, just the regular kit. all my dampers are set to the softest setting and i took my friends out the other day who own a completely stock FRS and they asked me if i had even installed the coilovers yet, they thought all i did was change the wheels and when i told them the coilovers were in fact already on the car they said the firmness was pretty much the same as their stock suspension =) now when i first had the coilovers installed i never checked the firmness of the dampers and when i went out for a test drive they were spine shattering stiff!! but eventually i noticed the dampers were stiffened up quite a bit as default setting so a quick adjustment made it very comfortable =) so the adjustability range of the dampers is very impressive!!

my only wish list for these is that they would have the electronic adjuster for the dampers to adjust inside the car on the fly =) but you cant always get what you want!! =) other than that, these coilovers are SOLID and well worth the money =)

any noises? apparently a few guys have had their BC coils making noise on them.:(

At first i did have a noise when i would turn the wheel left or right when it was cold. I later found out i had the adjustable swaybar links that came with the coilover kit too tight. i loosened them up and the noise never returned. This was last week. I drive the car 40 miles each way and they are as quiet as can be! Absolutely OEM feeling im really happy with them :-)

did you add any cusco rear control arms or anything?

no this is the only suspension mod i have done so far

I had the pleasure of tracking with @carlitosway6891 and @Ocala FR-S.

It's amazing how much of a difference this and tires make. (I was really sloppy on my faster laps though.) I managed a 35.81, completely stock. I do not know the exact time carlitosway6891 made, but it was in the mid-low 32 second range. He made really clean laps too.

As for me, it was the first autocross I've ever attended. I was on the sidelines spectating. Kudos to all who got out there as it was a quick "time attack" course with concrete walls on the perimeter and tire carcasses marking the course. Witnessed some damage and other close calls. @boredom.is.me was an inspiration to me to get my stock FR-S out there next go round.

The performance of carlitosway6891 was very convincing testimony as to the value of the coilovers. Tires are a must, these coilovers look to be the best second step mod for the FR-S.

The limits were raised so high with my set up now that I can honestly say I didn't go past 80 percent but this is my first rear wheel drive car and I've only owned it for a few weeks now so in time as I get more comfortable with approaching the limits faster laps times will be seen!!! Thanks for the compliments @boredom.is.me and @ocala_frs and I hope to see you out there at the next event!!

how can you say you didnt go past 80%? you dont know the limits until you pass them. in all honesty, they are likely inspiring confidence and not making a huge impact on the performance of the car. at least not on stock or similar wheels/tires. glad you like the purchase though. thats all that counts.

when your autocrossing and you have suspension and wheel/ tire upgrades which raise the grip limit and are surrounded by concrete and tire barriers, going past the limit on a car you just purchased IMO is not a wise thing to do =) like i said the more seat time i get the more comfortable i will feel going closer and closer to that limit but even still my performace at the autocross wasnt to shabby either IMO ;) i hope next time i go out there i will have a recording of the event! =)

im just saying that its impossible to say you have only driven at about 80% if you have never driven at/past the limits. if an autox isnt the place to do that, i dont know what is.

The setup at that venue unfortunately has walls but the track setups are such that you're never driving hard towards a wall without a lot of runoff room.

That wasn't actually autocross but the "Mini time attack" setup. In two weeks they will be running an autocross but I'll be out of town at Dixie National tour.

i think i know what you mean when you say what you do, but to clarify, i would say that 80% would be my personal comfort zone and not 80% of what the car is capable of. like you said its impossible to know the limits if you havnt been there or exceeded them so yes, i have no clue where those limits are....yet =)

i will definitely be excited to do that autocross in two weeks tho!!

I've been reading up a little on SCCA Autocross. I'll have to check it out one day. I'm less anxious about it compared to what I observed at CFRC Saturday Night.

My helmet shipped today. I should be good for the 16th.

SCCA is a lot more fun (to me), more structured, more competitive. And this coming from someone who pretty much runs the CFRC event lol

I got the rated helmet because some autocross and road courses require it. I got white cause my wife liked it, and I figured it wouldn't get crazy hot if I set it down in the sun. You can find black in most helmets and then the color choices drop off quick.
