Favorite exhaust sound yet!!! BORLA

So I did a search and couldn't find anything related to this in video form so I had to share. By far the sexiest sound I've heard coming out of these so far. May have to pick up something similar to one of these setups eventually. Check out their YouTube channel it's wicked!

I wonder if they drone.

each to their own

jshadeck 02-05-2013 09:06 PM

I can almost guaruntee they drone, id also be willing to bet 100$ they dont sound quite like that in person. I have a custom muffler delete and on camera it sounds "raspy" but in person it sounds great. Its such a deep and loud tone that, at least my iphone5, cant record it for crap other than idle

Heres idle

I think this one sounds the same Attachment 27495

They're definitely loud. I saw past the raspy part because that's mostly just from the microphone. It's for sure not for everyone, I know I wouldn't put this on a daily driver but just loved the boxer growl they got out of them. Reminded me a little bit of a Subaru WRX with a Cobb exhaust that drives around my place.

husker741 02-08-2013 12:24 AM

It's my favorite too. When I get my FR-S, I'm going with this exhaust, with the catted front pipe and an over pipe. Here is the link to videos inside and outside the car. There really is no drone at all.

You agree that it sounds like a picture of a car that has no sound? Alrighty then...:iono:

I kinda like it although I'm not sure I could live with it for a dd...

FT-86 SpeedFactory 02-10-2013 11:40 PM

The sound isn't for everyone and there are some things to consider when judging an exhaust system like this.

You guys have to understand that those videos above are a completely catless exhaust system. Yes, it is going to be loud and this car is going to be competing in TireRack's One Lap of America competition. It isn't a daily driven street car.

That being said, it still does not sound "ricey" at all. If you can't tell this system apart from a 3 inch system on a 1.6L Honda motor, then your ears are daft :P

The tone is much deeper and the rasp is not apparent when hearing it in person. Just some things to consider about this system and why it is so loud.

Anyways, here is the link to our thread in the technical forum discussing the Borla UEL header and the other exhaust pieces on our car.

So when I get mine installed, would you like to send a check or paypal the $100 to me?

SubieNate 02-11-2013 12:09 AM

For some reason I do not like the UEL sound on this car. On the Impreza? Fine, it's mean and nasty and a bit of a brutish car so it fits. This car is precise and agile, I want it to sound like a Porsche or Lotus or something of that nature. High revving and smooth. :)

campy 02-11-2013 12:32 AM

When it comes to exhausts, you really have to hear it in person. The videos don't do them justice. So far I haven't found an exhaust that doesn't sound "ricey". Drone is also something I'm particular on. My old Porsche 993 had an aftermarket exhaust on it and the drone was so bad you couldn't talk to the person in the passenger seat without yelling. You could hear that car coming from a mile away, for better or for worse

BTW here is what the V1 Catback sounds like with a stock header, stop front pipe, and stock over pipe.

Custom muffler delete made by a fellow forum member for his car, he then made a different one (cat back or header back i believe) so i asked if he was interested in selling :)

Are you implying that you WANT the rasp/noise that these make due to the microphone picking it up incorrectly? Cause that video most certainly has some "interference" or whatever you want to call it, same as mine does, that is not present to the human ear

In the first video. At 0:22 where it pulls away, the "buzzing" is part of what im referring to.

zenki_levin 02-11-2013 11:47 AM

Catless sounds awesome.

My exhaust has drone, don't care. :burnrubber:

Again, that's with no cats and the header. I will be getting the V1 with the catted front pipe and over pipe.

Edit: I was more going with you saying there is a drone and that it won't sound good at all. I have some car buddies that know Jeremy and says his work is fantastic, so I will take his word that this sounds good.

I never once stated it would not sound good. I actually was implying it would most definitely sound better (in my opinion) in person as i know from past experience alot of camera mics have trouble recording deep exhaust tones. Dont put words in my mouth. Thanks and good luck.

Sorry, I guess I thought you were saying you didn't think it would sound good. It's all good now.

jshadeck 02-11-2013 12:49 PM

Not at all. I dont know that i would buy it from that video. But i would definitely find a better recording or hear it myself before buying. But i would not remove it as an option based on a video due to the mic distortion. :)

husker741 02-11-2013 01:09 PM

I guess I could drive out to Des Moines to hear it in person.

Broken sounding Subaru is broken.

norsamerican 02-26-2013 04:05 PM

friend had borla catback on a 2.5 sti swapped rs2.5 sounded magnificient. But i heard that exhaust in person.

robispec 02-26-2013 05:06 PM

At the last track day at ACS fontana I had 6 people search me out in the pits to tell me the little 4 cylinder was the BEST sounding car at the track! it was going by at 6500 in 6th gear... LOVE that BORLA sound!

Jaylyons1 02-26-2013 06:37 PM

Sounds amazing. Screw the haters here. They are obviously not fans of the boxer rumble.

Skurj 02-26-2013 06:43 PM

I'm in for the borla catback, not sure about the header, but I know for sure if I did swap the header it would be for the Borla EL not the UEL. The EL sounds much better IMO.

Turbowned 02-26-2013 07:04 PM

That's pretty burly-sounding for a little 2.0L! A little too loud for my taste, though. I've already got two noisemakers in the garage.

I've had the borla catback for a few months now. You can really hear the boxer engine and there is little to no drone. If you are at 3-4k on the highway you will barely hear this exhaust. After listening to hours of exhaust vids for this car I honestly believe this is one of the best out there for our car.

_K1LL1ONAIRE_ 02-26-2013 08:12 PM

What would it sould like with the invidia q 300 catback

_K1LL1ONAIRE_ 02-26-2013 08:13 PM

Sorry muffler and non catted front and over pipe
